I felt like building a vignette and this is what came out. Hope you enjoy it.

The crew on the ship was too bored with their too friendly and non-violent piratecaptain and decided to make a mutiny to get rid of him. The good captain James was just trying to please everyone and not make too many unhappy with their plundering and stealing. So he never killed anyone just for fun or let the crew enjoy some of the prisoners. In the end his nice character was the dead of him.

I'd like some comments on my first vignettes so i know what to make better next time :-$

Pirates... Never satisfied!! :-D

I see you made a good use of minifigs. I like how the scarf looks.

Very funny how you made those pesky pirates sneak upon their Captain.

The vig is well built, my only remark would be the wall looks more like a wall of a building rather than the wall of a cabin to me.

Nice!

Well of course not.. it's pirates

I see your point. But i couldt figure out how to make it look different at the time. But I'm glad you liked it anyway.

A nice and interesting scenery, the story´s just sad and pretty funny at the same time.... with very neat characters, too. *sweet*

I realise vignettes are small and do allow much space but this one looks very "busy" in the sense it appears to be overcrowded. Perhaps it's just the camera angle.

Anyway, great job! *y* That captain appears to taking more than his fair share of the rum so he deserves everything that's coming to him! X-D

I agree it is busy, however, remember we are on a ship, and ships are crowded...

That's not the point. The point is vignettes are a depiction and their design should imply they're a crowded space without actually being one. Says me who has never made a vignette X-D

But seriously, I'm just observing other vignettes who have employed clever means of appearing crowded without looking too cluttered.

ahh I see, i too have never made a Vig... as such.

points heard and noted... im learning, slowly but im sure i will get there in the end...

as it has been suggested its crowded maybe a little extra flooring could be provided, more square than its current rectangular design? i think 16 x 16 is an excepted size, but that is double compared to your ?8x14?

what are the sizes your allowed?

A good start! *y*

However, as Phes pointed out, there is a lot of clutter - for example, are the treasure chest and barrel really necessary? Furthermore, there is no clear focal point for it; if you were to build a larger, more ship-like window and take the photo through that, with the mutineers around the Captain's back.

As for photography, would you be able to turn that blue thing on its side to get a larger, more consistent background? Or a piece of white A4 paper works very well.

That said, it's a great concept!

Maybe that would do it. Mine is, as you say, 8x16.

SlyOwl: yes i should proably work with my backgrounds, when i'm doing MOCs. So for next time i will get you a more plan background X-D And you're right that the chest and the barrel isn't necessary. But I put them there before i placed the pirates.. so didn't realize that it was too crowded.

SlyOwl, you are certainly a master of vignettes!

Classic-Pirates.com needs images like the one you've created above, so would you be interested in creating some more when you return from where ever you've gone?

Why thankee, although this one isn't a full vignette; just some nicely arranged bricks for one shot...

As for master of vignettes, SN has been called that and I've been meaning to say for some time, although it hasn't come out, that I would have thought that he would be a fine candidate for a MOC Expert tag; he produces many top-quality ones...maybe it's his lack of strong allegiance to any particular forum...furthermore, he's a member of Builders' Lounge...

Wooh! I'm glad I got that out! :-D

I would, although I can't really see how you would use them 8-| And my style of photomography is rather different to yours... 8-| But if they're not being mixed, then ask away! *y*

Your style is better than mine and I've explained at least 3 times what I intend to use them for in various threads in the Captain's Cabin. The short answer is: to break up monotonous page of text with splashes of colour and intrigue.
