TeriXeri Posted August 6, 2019 Posted August 6, 2019 (edited) Just built the 2019 Townhouse/Pet Shop , main build. I really think it's one of the better 3-in-1 building sets of recent years, even with the open back (which I don't mind) It just has so much more interior space compared to like Corner Deli or Park Street Townhouse, and still is somewhat "modular" by some level you can swap floor plans around, and connect the street in different ways, including the alternate builds. Interior builds are good and complete as well, while still having plenty of room to pose figures. It feels like a Corner Deli + Modern Modular Home set hybrid and then scaled up but the design just works well. The alternate builds still look great as well as they aren't afterthoughts and use the same floor plan and pin connections, the tram might be the weakest part, but the barber and dentist in that same build still are original and nice builds. If the 2020 Townhouse/Toy Store uses the same floorplan (12x12 street, 8x12 buildings) , multiples of each set has great potential for a smaller scale (no Expert scale) town. TeriXeri Posted August 9, 2019 Posted August 9, 2019 (edited) Great review, however some "negative" nitpicks to me feel a bit too much comparing it to a Creator Expert set, expecting a 32x32 base and more detail/closed back. Can't compare a €80 set with the expectations of a €160-€190 modular (not assembly square). And even if the 2014 Bikeshop/Cafe was released today, it'd likely be a €90 set. That said, of course an Expert modular has more mass/parts for it's higher price points, as bigger sets often have better price/mass/parts ratios. Small sets tend to vary a lot, I do think the 2019 Outback Cabin is overpriced however at €35 retail price. (2019) 31098 - 305 parts €35 (2017)31067 - 356 parts - €25 Edited August 9, 2019 by TeriXeri Quote
TeriXeri Posted October 10, 2019 Posted October 10, 2019 (edited) 31098 Outback Cabin is kinda slow with dropping it's price compared to other 3-in-1's, with it's base price/part&volume rather high, this is definately not a €30/€35 set. Edited October 10, 2019 by TeriXeri Quote
TeriXeri Posted December 6, 2019 Posted December 6, 2019 (edited) Built the 31098 3-in1 Outback Cabin today, and the parts and build used are very nice. It's a small build but a versatile hut that can be either with open back , or fully enclosed with a hinge. The roof mostly uses 4x4 tiles with 4 studs, and has a nice different look to it from above (not very visible on the box art) It's also fully brick built, with a lot of 1x1 round and 1x2 wood bricks. Brick Built Wolf and Eagle and Canoe are okay and fun builds. Overall, a good set, but it's very small for the €35 (I got it at €20 or would have skipped it) Just seems a set that's rarely talked about Edited December 6, 2019 by TeriXeri Quote
