Rail Co Posted May 23, 2018 Posted May 23, 2018 Hello quick kind of "poll" to see if it is worth after opening a polybag to keep the bag if I later want to resell. I realize that over the years I have been keeping all these empty bags like one would do for boxes but is there any work to holding onto them? Or am I just wasting my time and space. Thanks! -RailCo Quote
Vindicare Posted May 23, 2018 Posted May 23, 2018 I do. Not really sure why as the ones I have left, I don’t plan on selling. Fortunately, they don’t take up much room. Quote
Johnny1360 Posted May 23, 2018 Posted May 23, 2018 I can't imagine selling an opened poly bag sets value would be increased any significant amount because it includes the bag, maybe a few cents at most. Maybe if there was something special on the bag half a dollar. Quote

Sealed polybags, sure, and I guess it really shouldn't be much different than with keeping boxes, but I think it's more an issue that polybags are small, inexpensive sets by nature so even if the bag increases the sale price by 20%, that's not much in terms of absolute dollars. If it ended up being really rare and exclusive it might make more of a difference... or maybe not at all since if it's really that rare and it's not something about the bag itself that makes it so, there won't be many available and thus the bag won't be a big differentiator anyway. On the flip side, I can't imagine empty polybags take much space at all to store, so unless you really need that half cubic foot of room back it probably doesn't hurt to hold on to them! Quote
MAB Posted May 23, 2018 Posted May 23, 2018 I guess it depends how many you have. I wouldn't want to have to sort through loads when selling a particular one just to make maybe an extra 5c. Quote
Rail Co Posted May 24, 2018 Author Posted May 24, 2018 Thank you all for your replies, I guess it is true they don't take up a lot of room so for ones I have recently opened I'll see what they value is for them. If the value with the bag is only a few cents more then I will just begin to throw them out once they are opened. Thanks! -RailCo Quote
Marinho Posted May 24, 2018 Posted May 24, 2018 Usually I keep the boxes and bags, but just because I like the artwork on them. But for me is reaching the point, that I will throw them away, they are starting to take some needed space for the Lego. :) Quote
AmperZand Posted May 24, 2018 Posted May 24, 2018 @Rail Co I would keep them. They indicate to potential buyers that the pieces really did come the poly and were not sourced from elsewhere, e.g. Ebay, and therefore have had any number of previous owners. They also suggest that in having kept the bags, you were thinking of selling the sets and therefore took extra care of the parts. Would the bags add value to the sets? Probably not or not much. Would the bags increase the likelihood of a sale? I reckon they would. Quote
