Tanotrooper Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 Hi all, I have seen a lot of people using the lego shako for any type of shako, and as some have enormous impressive armies, the price of shakos goes up at an incredible rate. I hope if we only start using the shakos for the ones wich they represent, we could perhaps cool the prices down a bit. Ok, let's have a look at the lego shako: As we see, the shako has a wide base, and narrows at the top. It also has a plume for decoration. In the Napoleonic wars, this type of shako was used by different countries and troops: 1) British light infantry light infantry Quite a considerable part of the British army, light infantry wore this shako, so... the 95th regiment also used it: british rifles 2) Dutch infantry the Dutch infantry, such as on Waterloo used this type of shako too. Dutch troops 3) Spanish infantry Spanish infantry 4) early Napoleonic wars Prussian Fusiliers They can be used for this, although this is straight, while the official is narrow at the top. Prussian fusillier 1806 And that would be it. Feel free to add more troops if it REALLY resembles the lego shako. The French shako, wich was used the most at that time, was the opposite of the lego shako: narrow at the base and widening towards the top. TT Quote

The only problem is that there is no replacement for the french shako style. Which was used by French Infantry, Cavalry, Artillery, .... Germans, ... Russians, ... I'm dealing myself with this problem and I'm working for a french shako style as lego ldraw part. I've found also a molding office and have translated the lego shako style to a 3d cad format. Unfortunately this format can't be read by the office so far. My most favorite target would be to have a shako in french style molded ... If there's further interest in such activities then we can split this thread. Andreas Edited March 18, 2008 by woody64 Quote
Tanotrooper Posted March 18, 2008 Author Posted March 18, 2008 I have made a purist design for the French style shako, as can be seen into this thread: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?...15&start=15 it consist of a 1*1 tooth piece, a 1*1 plate and the "army style shaven" black hair. (check for the Prussian infantry) I also have design for bearskins and that special "shako" the highlanders wore... (have to make them though) TT Quote
SlyOwl Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 Do you own any of those toy soldiers? -Just on a whim, would it be possible to cut the shako off them, drill out a hole for the minifig's head + stud and then paint it black? Or not, maybe *sad* Quote

SlyOwl Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 has any one any fresh ideas of what to do in our shako shortage? Well, you know that I have solved it! But seriously though, I'm going to try moulding a shako in casein. If it works, they'll be really cheap - it costs around 10c for the raw materials alone Quote

Thee Pirate Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 I really like that, it'll add variety to my slowly growing army... The only "army" that really counts has 24 soldiers, 6 officers, and 2 admirals using all new pirates. Quote
