Captain Zuloo Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 (edited) I was at home bored the other day and so I want to the vidio shop and hired Captain Blood, The Crimson Pirate and Treasure Island. Then I tried to build a ship such as the frigate in The Crimson Pirate and came up with the HMS Grandier ( I'll post in a few days). What do all you lot think about the old pirate films and how have they influenced your MOCing? Regards, Captain Zuloo ;-) Edited March 8, 2008 by Captain Zuloo Quote
SlyOwl Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 The Crimson Pirate Awesome film! X-D It's so cheesey but loveable! :-P The contraptions the Pirates use in the big land battle will influence some of my future MOCs, but not the current ones ;-) Quote
Captain Green Hair Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 One of my favourite movies has to be Master and commander. It really gives a great look of life on board, and details like the capstan, bilge pump, bell, cabins, sickbay etc. *y* Quote
Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted March 8, 2008 Eurobricks Emperor Posted March 8, 2008 One of my favourite movies has to be Master and commander. It really gives a great look of life on board, and details like the capstan, bilge pump, bell, cabins, sickbay etc. *y* I can't argue on this. Master and Commander is not only my favorite "pirate movie", but also one of my favorite movies in general! Besides M&C there is the wonderful Hornblower series which was (and is) a great source of inspiration for me. Quote
Joey Lock Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 Pirate movies influence me to moc. But when I look at other peoples ships, I stop. I realise I cant make a ship as good as the movies like others and I only have 1 full hull on my ship. Im blabbering on but its all to the point. :-P Pirate ships look easy to build in lego from the movies, but when you get around to it there to diverse. They need Unique pieces such as Hulls, sails, masts and lots of others. Anyone got tips on how to create mocs in stages? Overall the new pirate films such as Pirates of the Carribean Curse of the Black Pearl, the Intercepter and the Dauntless inspired me the other day to moc my ship! Do you wacth them whilst you moc? I know I do! *sweet* I can't argue on this. Master and Commander is not only my favorite "pirate movie", but also one of my favorite movies in general! Besides M&C there is the wonderful Hornblower series which was (and is) a great source of inspiration for me. On UKTV History around November there where episodes of Blackbeard series. It showed Teach capturing French Merchant vessels, blockading towns and Upgrading ships. It inspired me to buy the BSB, It got me back on the road! Quote

It is perhaps the worst pirate film ever made. All it is is a rip off of the Pirates of Penzance. Don't bust your boiler to see it. Regards, Captain Zuloo :-$ Quote
Errorist Posted March 9, 2008 Posted March 9, 2008 M&C is by far the most accurate ship-related movie ever made. The Hornblower movie (not the series) being a close second. other than those two i have a small list of great pirate-related movies -Captain Blood -Captain Kidd -The crimson pirate -Blackbeard Quote

Governor Mister Phes Posted March 10, 2008 Governor Posted March 10, 2008 I should have grabbed a copy when it was first released on DVD years ago. Back then it was on eBay very cheaply so I could have picked one up without regretting spending money on it. Now, however is a different matter... Quote
