Governor Mister Phes Posted March 7, 2008 Governor Posted March 7, 2008 The thread title is "Brickshelf" find so that usually indicates it wasn't created by the person who posted it. Looks to be quite an interesting MOC, I'll be sure to give it a more thorough examination and critique when I have more time. Quote
oo7 Posted March 7, 2008 Posted March 7, 2008 I saw this as one of the recent Brickshelf upload a couple days ago and loved the gorgeous landscaping. I too imagined this would go very well with some Imperial soldier or armada minifigures. The SNOT construction of the brook looks very good as well. *y* Quote
QuartermasterRobert Posted March 7, 2008 Posted March 7, 2008 That stream and waterfall is absolutely goregeous, and I'm not even a fan of SNOT! Quote
dunamis Posted March 7, 2008 Posted March 7, 2008 Wow, very nice indeed. Love the waterfall and bridge. Quote
Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted March 7, 2008 Author Eurobricks Emperor Posted March 7, 2008 Looks to be quite an interesting MOC Yes, and I found something that's even more interesting. But I'll share that at a later date. Quote
KingUndertheMountain Posted March 7, 2008 Posted March 7, 2008 Sweet! It has great details. I especially like the viney tree and the spikey courtyard walls. Cool! Quote
Captain Zuloo Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 In my opinion if we want it to be a pirate island, then maybe a castle is to medieval. Actually, ruins of a castle would be nice though. On the whole a good job! Regards, Captain Zuloo *sweet* Quote

You are right, this one would also fit in the History forum. But they already have so many new castle sets and this one could belong in the Pirate forum just as well. Quote
SlyOwl Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 I like this, but it seems more of a WIP to me - where are the people? Furthermore, there are studs amongst the tiles, which leads me to believe that the creator intends to put people on these. And yes, it's a Pirate MOC, hence the telecope ;-) Quote

Governor Mister Phes Posted March 9, 2008 Governor Posted March 9, 2008 There some real masterful building techniques in this MOC and some great little details, like this telescope for example. The photography however is a bit awkward in places, for example the below seems to have the wrong Depth Of Field making it difficult on the eyes: Quote
Captain Zuloo Posted March 9, 2008 Posted March 9, 2008 (edited) I stand corrected. Sorry. Capatin Zuloo |-/ Edited March 10, 2008 by Captain Zuloo Quote

Governor Mister Phes Posted March 9, 2008 Governor Posted March 9, 2008 I stand corrected. Sorry. Ya know it's probably not a good idea to quote two large images unless you really have to. I recommend delete the images and just quote the text. That waterfall is sweet, where are the minifigs???? *sweet* It appears this is one of those MOCs without any mini-figures. You are right, this one would also fit in the History forum. But they already have so many new castle sets and this one could belong in the Pirate forum just as well. Sadly Pirates is being severely neglected at the moment so we need all the highlights we can get. Yes, and I found something that's even more interesting. But I'll share that at a later date. How exciting! These MOCs are a wonderful way to break out recent drought, I hope this forum is inspiring Pirate MOCers to get motivated again! Quote
Captain Zuloo Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 I think that the vegetation is much more realistic than the castle. Although I really wouldn't know. After all I am a pirate fan so I never really took that much interest in the castle sets. Regards, Captain Zuloo Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted March 10, 2008 Governor Posted March 10, 2008 I'd say the vegetation is much more suited to a Pirate MOC than a castle MOC. This is a fortress after all and there were plenty of those in the Caribbean. Quote

Yes but it is a very medieval fortress to say the least. Wouldn't a pirate time fortress from about 1600's to 1800's have gun ports with large cannon in them? Quote
Admiral Blockbeard Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 Aye, Zuloo be right, a BSB pulling alside this Captin's hide away, n he'd be blown straight into that sparklin water fall. Where be the water for that water fall be comin from? At this rate it'll stop its pouring as soon as the rain goes. A nice MOC to be sure, but as true as a dogs bone be yellowy white, not realistic. Argh, congrats to the maker, may he find many a treasure. Quote

I think it is realisic but not if you are looking at it as a pirate MOC. I think it would be fine if the castle was a ruin though..... Regards, Captain Zuloo ;-) Quote
weasel47 Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 Hey everyone, I'm the creator of this MOC. Thanks for all the kind words! I have this island on Flickr now in addition to BrickShelf. Thanks to oo7 for spotting it there and telling me about this thread. A few comments: The photograph that is mostly blurry was intentionally focused on the waterfall in the back. I don't bother to build studless for dirt, sand, grass, and some rock (I don't always like the studded look, but I think entirely studless would be too smooth). I haven't decided who inhabits my islands yet (this one is the second in a series of three so far). I didn't go with pirates or knights because I didn't want to have to make everything fortified. I wanted it to be mostly idyllic. I now realize that I haven't built anything that was specifically pirate-themed in a long time, so I'll have to keep it in mind for the future. The building doesn't have many interior details right now, but it is all modular to allow me to add them. Maybe I'll do that eventually, and I'll also take some shots that show hidden details. There's a glowing red gem behind the waterfall and a cave inside the middle of the island, in addition to a large basement under the building. Quote
Admiral Blockbeard Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 (edited) Wow the building comes apart *wub* ... since writing my earlier post i had actually realized that you had a well at the top of the river! I cant wait for the extra photos! Are you going to arm the fortifications? Welcome to Eurobrucks I hope you choose to stay and hang around for some time! check out the competition going on with your skills shown in this MOC you could have a strong chance to win!
