astolfo Posted January 23, 2018 Posted January 23, 2018 When I first saw the sets of Nexon Knights I didn't think much of them until looking at the Main Characters. At first I thought Lego was trying to create something to replace Ninjago but after thinking about it it reminded me of an older Lego theme Knights kingdom. While you could say that this can't be true just because one happens to be more Sci-fi and the other more fantasy they do have share a couple of things in common. We already know Lego likes to reboot or recycle their old themes, like they did with Power Miners and Space Police so I thought that Nexon Knights might've been them trying to recycle Knights Kingdom. Lets look at a couple of the similarities that Nexon Knights shares with Knights Kingdom. Both series have a group of knights in both series each knight has a different color and unique crest with animals on them. in both themes all the knights are different styled helmets, in both of the themes the knights also have different names while these aren't all of the similarities in them you can understand where I'm going with this. Personally I think this was their second attempt at making knights kingdom, while most Lego castle themes didn't have many characters with personalities Knights kingdom seemed to try and create unique individual characters just like the characters in Nexon Knights. However I haven't seen much people talking about Nexon Knights being a reboot to Knights Kingdom or having any sort of relation to it, maybe Nexon Knights could've just been created without them even thinking about Knights kingdom and I might just be trying to connect them just because of the couple of things they share do you think this is just a coincidence or did Lego recycle their old theme in a completely new and interesting theme Quote
Dr.Cogg Posted January 23, 2018 Posted January 23, 2018 If anything, Nexo Knights is more like Lego 40k than Knights Kingdom 2, while KK2 does have colorful hero knights thats about it for the similarities and I know someone said the villains were similar, but actually their not, heres their stories: Vladek from KK2 : Vladek was the Black Scorpion knight whom everyone thought would win in the tournament to become king, he ended up losing to Mathias the Lion knight, whom asked Vladek to be his advisor, Vladek excepted and started hatching a plot to become king, using sorcery he would turn people into his Shadow Knights who would willingly obey his every word, later on after being defeated twice his minions were Rogue Knights. Monstrox from NK: Monstrox was a Necromancer and part of the Wizards Counsel, Monstrox wanted to gain more power by using Cursed Power and corrupting fellow wizards, Monstrox was defeated by Merlock and turned into a book that held all the monsters Merlock had captured over the years, one day after sitting on a shelf for many years, The Book of Monsters a.k.a. Monstrox met Jestro, the court jester and an easy target to manipulate, Monstrox used Jestro to try and get revenge on the Kingdom and Merlock, after failing several times, Jestro has been release from Monstrox power and Monstrox new partner is fellow Wizard counsel member and corrupted Sorceress Ruina. MAB Posted January 23, 2018 Posted January 23, 2018 No. Just coincidences. Knights had different heraldic symbols / colours / crests so it makes sense that LEGO knights do too. Knights had different style helmets, so it makes sense that LEGO knights do too. Quote
x105Black Posted January 23, 2018 Posted January 23, 2018 I wouldn't say Nexo Knights is a direct reboot, but it is very similar and likely inspired by Knights Kingdom 2. Quote
Digger of Bricks Posted January 23, 2018 Posted January 23, 2018 At least regarding the Knights, I think that's just Lego recycling a sort of Power Rangers formula that has been applied to other themes' heroes in the past, themes such as Ninjago and Bionicle for instance. Quote
Lyichir Posted January 23, 2018 Posted January 23, 2018 It covers a small amount of the same ground (especially with the early "power armor" concepts for the knights from KK2). But the characters, world, and almost everything else is different. I wouldn't really consider it a reboot. Quote
BrickJagger Posted January 29, 2018 Posted January 29, 2018 Not really. KK2, besides having a completely different story and characters, was largely story-driven. Nexo Knights has a simpler story and a heavy focus on vehicles, and the bad guys are all fantasy-based instead of fairly realistic. Quote

I wouldn't say the Nexo Knights story is simpler than Knights' Kingdom II's. Sillier/less serious? Certainly. But I feel like there's a lot of elements that give Nexo Knights an edge on overall complexity, such as more of the villains having individual names and identities, a larger cast of supporting characters, more worldbuilding (such as the backstory of the Knights' Academy, Knighton having its own distinctive pop culture, several of the knights having named family members)… you get the picture. The more meandering, episodic nature of the Nexo Knights story, along with the large amount of supplementary media, allows it to explore aspects of the characters and setting that the tightly-focused quest narratives of Knights' Kingdom II did not.
