LEGO is a changing company that many think is not what it should be or what it used to be. The best quality construction toys are made by LEGO. The current customer relationship between LEGO and the people who enjoy the toys they make is the best it has ever been. Yet, to many it seems something is still lacking. People who years ago bought LEGO products now think twice before buying a new set. The secondary LEGO market is growing and getting more and more business from LEGO itself. What has caused this change?

Many people think LEGO needs a change. A return if you will to what made LEGO so great in years past. LEGO is an enjoyable, quality made toy that many people regardless of age enjoy. So many of us want to see LEGO a prosperous company making a product everyone from children to grandparents will buy and enjoy for years to come. The whole reason for this survey is to get you to provide answers to some simple questions. When the answers are complied we will submit them to LEGO for consideration.

Please respect the purpose of this survey and do not go off topic, have any discussion or make any comments on others ideas or desires for LEGO. Please only post your answers after some thought and be as precise and as brief as you can be so that everyone's voice can be heard. If someone worded their answer exactly as you would like to please feel free to copy it and use it as your answer as well. Be very honest with your answers but avoid strong negativity, insults or improper language. If you have no answer or do not wish to answer a question please list N/A.

Why do LEGO toys have value to you?

What makes LEGO brand construction toys worth your money?

In what way has the LEGO brand let you down?

Recently, how has the LEGO brand improved?

What would you like to see LEGO (re)introduce in the next three years?

What does LEGO need to do to sell more products for less cost to them?

What reason(s) do you have for not buying new LEGO sets?

What would it take for you to spend more money on new LEGO products versus buying sets/parts on the second hand markets?

What will it take for LEGO to remain the best construction toy for all ages and be a profitable company?

What are your home country, first name and age?

Is there anything you would like to say with this last question that you feel someone at LEGO should not go without reading?

Thank you in advance for all the answers you will give. If we take this seriously and present it with a determination to be a help to TLG, then I believe LEGO will both appreciate it and look through it honesty, considering our ideas.

Admins please help keep this thread clutter free and productive. This survey will run from now until August 1st. I will be creating an excel file with peoples answers and will have it completed in August, at which time we turn it over to someone at LEGO.

If you are a member of another forum please pass an invite to those members to answer this survey also.

Thank you everyone who has participated. Please remember this thread is for answers to the questions and not comments about the questions, others answers or anything else. If you want to discuss these things please start a different topic or discuss them elsewhere. I would like to have everyone participate if possible. I will do my best at getting these answers compiled and easy to read for everyone and get delivered to. Again, thank you for your help and opinions.

If you sit back and say nothing you will have no chance to change it later. If you stand up for what you think and present your opinions politely people will at least listen and may be affected to change.

To the LEGO revival!

Fear not! For this will be revised and reduced in time.

Why do LEGO toys have value to you?

LEGO is intellectual and not a mindless action toy! To play with the set on the box you have to build it first which stimulates the mind and utlitises various motor skills. But if I don't like the design LEGO Company has offered I can't modify it to suit my liking. Or the pieces can be used to create something entirely new, or combined with other sets.

What makes LEGO brand construction toys worth your money?

In summary its a great hobby and past time which can be shared with others.

  • Re-use-ability - unlike other toys that require assembly, LEGO can easily be disassembled and reassembled infinite times. No glue or screws or additional tools required!
  • I can acquire multiple copies of the same set but can create entirely different sets from their components.
  • Longevity of pieces - If kept under appropriate conditions LEGO can last for decades.

IN WHAT WAY HAS THE LEGO BRAND LET YOU DOWN?

The first big let down:

By cancelling the Pirate theme in 1997! LEGO bragged Pirates was the most popular of all time and they go and do that!!!

The second big let down:

The 2004 Jack Stone sized 4+ Pirate theme!

  • Most of these sets seem like an assortment of oversized pieces with a few traditional pirate elements added so they can be labelled Pirate set.
  • Making the sets FAR worse is the inclusion of the oversized Jackstone scale figures. They change the scale of the set (and pieces) in relation to the figure. SYSTEM scale mini-figures may have slightly redeemed the sets.
  • The new cannons... They look nothing like cannons... They look stupid in fact.

It would have been better if these sets catered for both young children AND older builders. The sets are too infantile for older builders. There's too many big pieces which limits uses in custom creations (MOCs) - unless many additional generic pieces to give designs substance.

The new sets just don't have the same "feel" or "charm" to them as the older ones. The magic isn't there. They're just not special...

What does LEGO need to do to sell more products for less cost to them?

I'm not really qualified to answer this question as I lack understanding of LEGO's financial management, therefore anything I suggest may sound naive or misinformed. However I'm going to take a stab at it anyway...

  • Reduce the number of colours. Less colours means less dyes which means less cost to acquire and mix the colours. Besides, does anybody really need 10 different shades of every colour?
  • Reduce the number of oversized and specialised pieces. Surely its cheaper to produce more generic pieces which can be used in many sets, than it is to produce specialised pieces which can be only be used in a couple of sets. The molds from which the pieces are forged must and more designers who create them must add to cost.
  • Don't include comics or board game components in sets. If LEGO really needs to produce these gimmicks then they should be seperate from sets, this gives the buyer the option to purchase them.
  • Make the consumers aware that the products exist. I know people who would have purchased the Pirate set re-releases had they know they existed. I also have seen these re-releases discounted by about 50% in toy stores while at the same time selling for 200% more on the second hand market.
  • Reduce the size of the boxes and packaging. Even back the 80's and early 90's LEGO boxes were bigger than they needed to be. Obviously this makes the sets appear bigger and makes their price seem more justifiable. But who is LEGO really kidding?
  • And the most obvious... Produce quality sets with great designs which appeal to consumers so they can bulk produce the sets.

WHAT WOULD IT TAKE FOR YOU TO SPEND MORE MONEY ON NEW LEGO PRODUCTS VERSUS BUYING SETS/PARTS ON THE SECOND HAND MARKETS?

I've done phenomenally buying from the second hand market! At present there is abosolutely no reason for me to purchase from the commercial market as LEGO isn't even releasing product that I wanted to buy!

Even the useful pieces in the 4+ Pirate sets aren't justification to buy the sets as there's too many other useless pieces. Its more logical to source the specific parts on the second hand market as its cheaper.

Some ways to get me to buy new LEGO products on the commercial market:

  • Create a new SYSTEM Pirate theme with more generic pieces and less specialised pieces. Like in the late 80's to mid 90's when pieces from other SYSTEM themes were more "cross compatible". E.g. The castle walls, arches, etc. Could be shared across Pirates, Castle, Paradisa and ocassional Town and Space. LEGO found a clever ways to re-use different pieces for purposes, rather than resorting to creating a whole new piece for the specific purpose.
  • Or, re-release more SYSTEM Pirate sets and put them on shelves in my area. I'm not interested in purchasing from LEGO.com S@H. The postage is far too much so therefore it is much cheaper to wait until the second hand market offers them.
  • It would be really nice to walk into a toy or department store and see new or past SYSTEM Pirate LEGO sets on the shelves.
  • Release more Mini-figures packs... Imperial Guard and Spanish Pirate and Armada mini-figures are in high demand. At times people are willing to pay ridiculously high amounts for them on the second hand market. Releasing these in packs of about 10 would be really nice, with each pack containing a variety of different ranking soldiers and accessories.
  • Put more mini-fugres in sets... An extra mini-figure or three never hurt anyone, especially the larger sets. But are also provide greater incentive to purchase multiple copies of the smaller sets.
  • Cease releasing so many colours! Black, white, light & dark grey, brown, the primary colours, secondary colours and their translucent counterparts (for flames, etc) are fine. But I don't need half a dosen shades of each colour! I couldn't combine a Harry Potter set with a Pirate set because the shades just would not be comptabile. Besides, some of the newer colours are downright ugly!
  • REDUCE THE PRICE!!! On S@H 7075 Captain Redbeard's Pirate Shi] for Americans is US$39.99 (or A$50.00) but for Australians its A$99.95 (or US$76). Almost twice the price and that's NOT including postage (which is A$30-A$70)! Completely ridiculous! The exchange rate doesn't fluctuate that much!!!
  • Pick A Brick outlets... EVERYWHERE!!! This sounds like a great idea in theory but sadly such a store does not exist in my part of the world. But I'd only visit such a store if it stocked pieces which appealed to me. I.e. Pirate pieces, jungle pieces castle walls, arches, slopes, etc.

RECENTLY, HOW HAS THE LEGO BRAND IMPROVED?

  • By moving back to a more traditional SYSTEM mini-figure scaled theme with Knights Kingdom 2 and Vikings. However they could push this even further as to include more generic pieces so the larger pieces don't draw too much attention to themselves and stand out. Some of the Bionicle pieces also look a little out of place.
  • One of the few things LEGO has done right since the mid 90's was diversify the mini-figure head design and increase the detail in the mini-figures torsos. The more designs the better I believe! But LEGO need not create an abundance of head new designs, all that is required is using existing head designs from other themes. I've observed this is done to a certain extent. E.g. The Johnny Thunder head on the new Vladek figure, but could have been done much more in a new SYSTEM Pirate theme.
  • Re-releasing older sets. This was a brilliant! I could own sets that I could never afford when I was younger.

WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE LEGO (RE)INTRODUCE IN THE NEXT THREE YEARS?

Generally I'd like to see LEGO establish an equilibrium between the number of generic pieces and number of specialised pieces in sets. Plus a far greater piece and colour genericism/cross compatibility between the themes. LEGO had this balanced nicely until the mid 90's, but form then onwards this balance was lost.

  • Obviously another SYSTEM scale Pirate theme with LESS specialised and oversized pieces and a more traditional colour palette. Even the SYSTEM Pirate specialised pieces could be shared across other themes like Castle, Adventurers, Western, Ninja, Paradisa, etc.
  • Resume the Pirate theme where it left off! Expand the Imperial Armada sub-theme because they dudes really need a base of operations. More designs using green and brown bricks which seemed to suit the Pirate theme well (especially the log walls) but was barely utilised.
  • Create ships with more historic realisim (for the Pirate theme). The 6271 Imperial Flagship was probably the most historically accurate ship in regards to sale configuration, (looks like a sloop). 6265 Black Seas Barracudda and 6268 Skulls Eye Schooner (definitely not a schooner) resemble Frigates. But there were no other recognisable ships, like a hulking Treasure Galleon, or Brigatine, or Barque, Fluyt, etc. each with its own distinctive characteristics.
  • Continuing with historic realistism... Create sets for the 5 major colonial nations of the Caribbean (Britain, France, Holland, Portugal and Spain) taking into account each nations architecture and style of the period. Buildings like a commissary, magazine, stockade, etc.
But don't focus solely on the military aspect, include settlement structures like a merchant trading post, ship yard, inn (a proper one), governors mansion, light house, various settlers houses, etc. Finally the Pirates would have someone to plunder besides the Merchant in the Imperial Trading Post!
  • Mini-figure packs. Mini-figures at times sell outrageously well on the second hand market, especially from the Pirate, Caste and Western theme. Building an army is an expensive practice and LEGO could cash in on this...

WHAT REASON(S) DO YOU HAVE FOR NOT BUYING NEW LEGO SETS?

To reiterate some earlier points.

  • LEGO fails to produce sets which appeal to me.
  • The 4+ Pirate theme was too infantile, and the useful pieces within the sets aren't justification to buy them on the consumer market for full price.
  • The number of oversized specialised in sets. They seem to be the centrepiece of design rather than part of it. This makes the sets look bulky and limit its potential for alternate designs. Is this why LEGO rarely puts alternate designs on the boxes anymore? They can't create anything decent with them!
  • The ridiculous amount of colours, especially the more hideous shades. Along the specialised pieces, this limits other designs and sets the pieces can be combined with.
  • The availability. The Legends and Re-releases weren't available in stores in my area so I was forced to buy from the local second hand market. I wouldn't never consider S&H because the postage is too much.
  • The Price. Compared to almost everywhere else LEGO is much more expensive in Australia and that is taking the exchange rate and postage into account.

What will it take for LEGO to remain the best construction toy for all ages and be a profitable company?

  • Maintain the high quality of its pieces,
  • But not make sets too expensive.
  • Better communication between its marketing department and its consumer.
  • Well designed sets that appeal to a broad range of consumers.
  • No more licences! Surely LEGO has designers who are creative who have original ideas without resorting to a movie tie-in?
  • Reduce the number of colours.
  • Keep the mini-figures skin colour yellow. This creates racial ambiguity plus its part of LEGO's original charm.
  • Less specialised pieces and more generic pieces.

Is there anything you would like to say with this last question that you feel someone at LEGO should not go without reading?

I understand LEGO as a company must constantly explore new ideas and continue innovate. LEGO did this nicely from the early 80's to mid 90's, but unfortunately reached a point where things began to disimprove. Obviously LEGO can't please everyone all the time, but perhaps LEGO has disimproved to the point where its consumers feel the need to suggeest how LEGO could be doing a little better.

Anybody who shares any of my views and opinion is free to directly copy and paste them if they'd like to use my responses in their survey answers.

Why do LEGO toys have value to you? LEGO for me is both nostalgia and an artistic outlet. LEGO is a hobby for me that allows me to use my imagination and problem solving skills.

What makes LEGO brand construction toys worth your money? Having a high piece per price count, lots of accessories, one minifigure per every $5 a set costs and either a new piece, a piece in a new color or a uncommon color part (such as a brown bird) all add to my perceived value of a set. Above all these things though LEGO

Posted

Why do LEGO toys have value to you?

They're a timeless product - they stick with you through childhood and adulthood.

What makes LEGO brand construction toys worth your money?

Trust in the quality of the product, piece-to-price value, creativity, accuracy, and usability.

In what way has the LEGO brand let you down?

Over the last couple of years, they've been introducing way too many new pieces, most of which serve no discernable purpose. For example, the HUGE bricks used in 4+ and KK2 for floors and islands and such. That could have EASILY been accomplished through a few plates. Also, messing around with the minifigs - I don't have a problem with flesh tone so much (as long as it's restricted to licenses), but those Jack Stone figures are god-awful. And I'm not even going into Galidor...

Recently, how has the LEGO brand improved?

This year has been fantastic so far! City is incredible (save for the new dump truck), ROTS was very cool for the most part (Wookiee Attack and the Catamaran were disappointing, though), and the new KK2 castle is AMAZING in comparison to the first line. The Sandcrawler also seems to be a welcome return to the use of bricks en mas in sets, which is great. Making a Vikings line was a wonderful idea, and I hope they continue the historical thing. The new Harry Potter line's graveyard also looks fantastic.

What would it you like to see LEGO (re)introduce in the next three years?

+ A new Pirates line, non-<insert that tiresome argument>, using the CLASSIC hulls. Several varieties of pirates and 'good guys' to fight amongst each other. Firing cannons like in the old days.

+ A line of historical themes, as mentioned by SuvieD, is my greatest desire. In order: Romans, Greeks, Egyptians, Japanese. Possibly an African theme?

+ A continued Adventurers theme. Atlantis would be very nice.

+ A heavily expanded City line. Hospital, school, town hall/courthouse, apartments, office building, garage, convenience store, bookstore, cafe, pizzeria, etc. So much to do with it!

+ A classic Castle theme, possibly incorporated with the aforementioned Historical line. Regular old English buildings with gray castles using lots of regular pieces. New but REALISTIC designs and armor without the Teletubby colors.

+ Small sets with lots of figures.

+ Community influence in product selection. Use surveys, questionaires, etc.

+ A series of one-shots deals with car companies to produce LEGO versions of their most popular cars - Jaguar, Ferrari, Lamborghini, etc.

What does LEGO need to do to sell more products for less cost to them?

STOP MAKING NEW PIECES. STOP MAKING (so many) NEW PRINTS. The Sandcrawler is a good example of this - classic pieces by the hundreds, and over piece/price value. Why? No new pieces, and no prints on the set itself.

What reason(s) do you have for not buying new LEGO sets?

The only ones I've really been opposed to are the first line of KK2 for its <insert that tiresome argument> status, BIONICLE because it's... BIONICLE, and Alpha Team because piece/price is horrible and there are way too many new pieces.

What would it take for you to spend more money on new LEGO products versus buying sets/parts on the second hand markets?

Sets with so many useful pieces that it's not necessary to spend money on second-hand markets buying NORMAL pieces.

What will it take for LEGO to remain the best construction toy for all ages and be a profitable company?

A return to its classic principles and line of thinking - not so many tacky storyline-centered lines. Models first, stories later - and they should not CONTROL THE SETS. Pirates is a good example of this.

What are your home country, name and age?

Why do LEGO toys have value to you?

It allows me to use my imagination. sometimes, I just lie on the floor building for hours...

What makes LEGO brand construction toys worth your money?

I can re-use the bricks and figs

In what way has the LEGO brand let you down?

FLESH TONE FIGS! There have also been to many <insert that tiresome argument> pieces and sets (4+ pirates, anything to do with dinos, power ranger like knights) They should be focusing on:

A. More peices

B. Better designed sets

C. fewer movie sets (making an exception for star wars)

D. fewer junior (little kid) sets

Recently, how has the LEGO brand improved?

Selling baseplates helps alot, but need more variety of plates, different colors and raised plates would be better. Star wars is a great line. The ep3 clones are awesome, need tons more of them.

What would it you like to see LEGO (re)introduce in the next three years?

1. some good space lines sort of like the older ones, not super old, but blacktron and ufo type sets.

2. really good classic pirates! NO JUNIOR PIRATES!

3. a continued adventurers line (lost city of Atlantis)

4. classic castle

5. small sets with lots of figs

What does LEGO need to do to sell more products for less cost to them?

more generic pieces, more figs, better prices.

What reason(s) do you have for not buying new LEGO sets?

Prices to high, junior sets, not enought figs and pieces

What would it take for you to spend more money on new LEGO products versus buying sets/parts on the second hand markets?

Sell more peices individually, more baseplates, better sets/prices

What will it take for LEGO to remain the best construction toy for all ages and be a profitable company?

Better sets, more figs, generic pieces, lower prices, good customer-company relations

What are your home country, name and age?

Is there anything you would like to say with this last question that you feel someone at LEGO should not go without reading?

You need to work on sets, more generic peices, less movie sets. BRING BACK THE OLDER LINES!

Boy, pretty ambitious topic. I can answer selectively

In what way has the LEGO brand let you down?

-Castle theme has become junionized and lame. I am told KK2 is better, but it is no 6080 or 6085. Same for pirates - OMG remember the awesome Barracuda!

-Bionicle hasn't evolved since 2001/2002, when it was original and good.

-I badly want to get into Mindstorms, but don't want to invest myself in an obsolete 8 year old product that may be abandoned by the company.

Recently, how has the LEGO brand improved?

-2003-5 were good years for big technic sets (i.e. the awesome crane of 2005)

-the Ferrari sets of 2005 are very pretty. Nice for display purposes. I put some in my office and everyone comments favourable on it.

-web site is good, but needs to be better

-I really think TLC is trying to communicate more with its customers

What would it you like to see LEGO (re)introduce in the next three years?

-Mindstorms 3.0,with a modern interface

-Classic Castle, with 1000+ brick counts. Focus on architecture, and keep KK2 for focus on playability

-more adventurers (my kids love this and miss it)

What does LEGO need to do to sell more products for less cost to them?

-get rid of many overspecialized pieces

What reason(s) do you have for not buying new LEGO sets?

-too <insert that tiresome argument> (Jack Stone, Pirates 4+, many city sets etc)

What would it take for you to spend more money on new LEGO products versus buying sets/parts on the second hand markets?

-20% lower cost

-original new sets that I can't et on the second hand markets for a few years. For example I bought and paid full price for both the giant crane and Vladek's castle (poof! 400$ gone in a flash).

What are your home country, name and age?

-Canada. Age >30

Is there anything you would like to say with this last question that you feel someone at LEGO should not go without reading?

WEB STRATEGY. In the final analysis, TLC will sink or swim on sales to children not to AFOLs like me. What I said above applies to me as an AFOL. Speaking from my experience with my kids, at the important age of 5-10 having games, information, and activities readily accessible on hte web that promotes the toy set is critical. That's what got my kids into Bionicle, Adventurers. The flash cartoons and games for Adventurers were awesome. My kids played them again and again. My kids were keen on KK1 at first, but lost interest when the web activity of KK1 faded. When MNOG was active, my kids had bionicle on the brain 24/7. But it was a buggy program and frustrating to use after a while, so they gave up. Today they spent 3 hours on the Neopets web site ^%@%!.

I know TLC does not want to do "violent" play,or "sexual" play which is against their philosophy, and which I agree with. This no doubt costs them some sales in today's world. How to fight against this? Humor. Humor is timeless and ageless and trumps sex and violence any time.

Lego should be both a fun, and a funny, toy. Adventurers does this well. Bionicle sometimes (more the books, not so much the web site). Kids respond to humor very well at any age.

LEGO should be

1) the best toy inthe world (which it clearly is)

2) known as the best interactive website for children and adults in the world. Tons of free games, flash or similar cartoons, an active community, contests, frequently update content (UNLIKE NOW!!!!)

Some thoughts.

Good luck TLC - please be around forever.

Here is my attempt at your questions:

Why do LEGO toys have value to you?

LEGO brings back fond memories from my childhood, but more than that, it is something I have been excited to share with my daughter. I believe the brick builds a creative mind & allows you to use your imagination in a positive manner to build a great many things...

What makes LEGO brand construction toys worth your money?

Everything being fully-compatible. Albeit the newer items (clikits come to mind) are not.

In what way has the LEGO brand let you down?

Movie Licenses I believe have been a double-edged sword for TLC. They have allowed TLC to continue to create a product that can potentially be pleasing to children, while at the same time infecting the company with a lack of creativity. This can be seen in many of the sets that TLC created on its own... Also the fact that piece counts are getting smaller & smaller, while the costs are getting higher & higher has also been a letdown... TLC does not understand that the less pieces, the less playability in the set (just ask my daughter ;) )

Recently, how has the LEGO brand improved?

I have made mention before about the Sandcrawler set, & I believe that TLC is actually beginning to listen to what consumers want. The thing is, that when they do, us consumers need to support TLC, so that the trend will continue...

What would it you like to see LEGO (re)introduce in the next three years?

I would like to see LEGO do a few thing in the next few years... 1) transition away from all licensed themes, yes, ALL of them... 2) Lego claimed at one thime that their Pirate theme was THE most popular among construction toys, that theme needs to come back BIG TIME (et tu mister_phes?)... 3) Like Bloody Jay suggested, a more expansive City Theme with all the things that a City has such as a "Hospital, school, town hall/courthouse, apartments, office building, garage, convenience store, bookstore, cafe, pizzeria, etc."... 4) stop being so cheap with the minifigs, try adding one or two more per set LEGO! 5) & although I didn't think of this originally, I think Bloody Jay has a great idea with the "one-shot deal" thing with car companies... 6) BRING UP THE PIECE COUNTS (without the big, bulky pieces)! More pieces will increase more playability without destroying creativity...

What does LEGO need to do to sell more products for less cost to them?

Again, like Bloody Jay stated, "STOP MAKING NEW PIECES. STOP MAKING (so many) NEW PRINTS." All we need to do is look at the piece counts for older sets where they were much higher with lower costs. The only thing that seems to have caused that is larger pieces, that restrict creativity!

What reason(s) do you have for not buying new LEGO sets?

For many of the reasons I have stated above, but mainly because my daughter just shows no interest in many of them (& she loves the Classic Castle & Pirates sets A LOT)...

What would it take for you to spend more money on new LEGO products versus buying sets/parts on the second hand markets?

Basically, if TLC made more creative sets with higher piece counts, more minifigs, and my daughter found them appealing, I'd buy them at full retail... I just don't want to continue to look at sets as 'potential parts packs' anymore...

What will it take for LEGO to remain the best construction toy for all ages and be a profitable company?

LEGO is still the best construction toy out there today. Although, it does seem apparent that a 'clone' brand may find the right product/price/etc. to compete with LEGO in a way where LEGO will lose money & its hold on the construction toy market. Everytime I go to TRU, Wal-Mart, or Target, I notice that the LEGO section gets smaller & smaller, as the Megabloks section gets bigger & bigger... it may not be long, so LEGO needs to take control of it soon...

What are your home country, name and age?

The United States of America, Ed Deaver, and I am now 30 years old...

Is there anything you would like to say with this last question that you feel someone at LEGO should not go without reading?

Creativity was the foundation of LEGO & should be brought back. It is something that has been sorely lacking as of late & needs to be addressed. This is why my four-year old doesn't like your newer sets, but fondly plays with older Castle (Yellow Castle, Kings Mountain Fortress, Black Knights Castle, etc.) & Pirate (Black Seas Barracuda, Carribean Clipper, Renegade Runner, etc.) sets. Her favorite thing to do is build a building out of straight bricks & plates (like the older sets). She is definetly in your target market, and right now, you are still missing...

I love LEGO & I always will.

Life is Good.

Why do LEGO toys have value to you?

Everything. I can build fantastic spaceships and works of art. They stimulate my imagination!

What makes LEGO brand construction toys worth your money?

The fun themes and the way the bricks fit together perfectly.

In what way has the LEGO brand let you down?

The prices of some of the sets and juniourizing some of the themes (eg. Pirates, system Bionicle). Having pre-molded bricks.

Recently, how has the LEGO brand improved?

Having the Lego Inside Tour was brilliant, also releasing the Viking and Designer sets.

What would it you like to see LEGO (re)introduce in the next three years?

1) Monorail

3) Pirates

(Release them as Legends or update them)

Also:

6) Lord of the Rings/ Hobbit

7) Doctor Who

What does LEGO need to do to sell more products for less cost to them?

Like everyone else, "STOP MAKING NEW PIECES. STOP MAKING (so many) NEW PRINTS." All we need to do is look at the piece counts for older sets where they were much higher with lower costs. The only thing that seems to have caused that is larger pieces, that restrict creativity!

What reason(s) do you have for not buying new LEGO sets?

If they are too expensive, If the model doesnt inspire me, or if the bricks are specialized (eg. Bionicle)

What would it take for you to spend more money on new LEGO products versus buying sets/parts on the second hand markets?

Why do LEGO toys have value to you?

I see them as nothing more than something that I play with frequently. These days it's really the only actual toy I still involve myself with.

What makes LEGO brand construction toys worth your money?

The ingenius behind the concept. Several decades and it still hasn't gotten old. Building the actual model can be great; you see how everything falls into place. Playing with it is what I consider the most important factor. The ability to take parts and make whatever you want is an innovation that no other brand can match. (I'm certain a few people could argue Megabloks, but they're definitely not on this board.)

In what way has the LEGO brand let you down?

Not much beyond some disappointing and/or overpriced sets. In truth, they haven't let me down a whole lot. I'm kind of an obscure fan -- I love Bionicle, KK2, and Harry Potter, in addition to the widely-loved themes (Star Wars, Adventurers, etc.) I think the only specific let-down as of late is the light-up minifigs in the Star Wars line and the flesh-tone minifigs in all licenses. I just don't see the reason behind it... And, of course, there're the color changes, but those are irreversable.

Recently, how has the LEGO brand improved?

I couldn't tell you. I've only been with it for seven or eight years. For recent-recent, I'd say 2005 in general. System-wise, we have amazing KK2 sets, new Vikings, some cool Harry Potters for the fall, etc. The $20-priced Bionicle sets, I think, are the best ones TLC has put out. (I guess these can be countered by the Hordika models, though -- possibly the first Bionicle figures I really don't like very much.)

What would it you like to see LEGO (re)introduce in the next three years?

Another Johnny Thunder adventure, for one. The Egypt sets were what got me into LEGO -- I fell in love with them, and I did too with the rest of the Adventurers themes. Some more historical themes in the fashion of Vikings would be cool, too.

What does LEGO need to do to sell more products for less cost to them?

N/A

What reason(s) do you have for not buying new LEGO sets?

Some would drive up my cost too much, and if I buy too many too fast, I'd quickly run out of room to put them all. Then there's appeal. Right off the bat, there are some themes I never really got into to begin with, like World City and non-Bionicle Technic, so none of those ever really appeal to me. Then there're some sets in the themes I love that don't really catch my eye (like the Episode III Star Wars kits; some I fell in love with, some I couldn't care less about).

What would it take for you to spend more money on new LEGO products versus buying sets/parts on the second hand markets?

I don't really buy on second hand markets...

What will it take for LEGO to remain the best construction toy for all ages and be a profitable company?

Not to give in to a bunch of new molds and huge pieces. Look at Megabloks; we don't wanna go in their direction. That, and shoot for themes that can appeal to all ages. Naturally, some will not -- you've gotta aim stuff like Dora the Explorer to younger kids to get their business. But stuff like the new Vikings, for example -- AFOLs are praising them for being a historical and rich-looking theme. Kids will see them and think, Whoa, cool! Dragons! Monsters! Boats! Etc!

What are your home country, name and age?

What are your reasons for wanting to know? I'm a 15-year-old citizen of the USA, but I can't imagine what good my name will do. Most people call me Alex.

Is there anything you would like to say with this last question that you feel someone at LEGO should not go without reading?

Just don't pull another fast one on us like you did with color changes and flesh tones...

Dear Eurobricks members I have emailed Jake Mckee and he has promised to at least read what we have written. See quote below.

If you want to put together the results and send them over, I would certainly read it. (I read everything, and I do mean everything, that ends up in my inbox)

As far as sharing it with others, I would do this when and where appropriate. If the feedback is helpful, then obviously it make more sense to share it internally.

But if the content comes back focused mainly on why LEGO should go back in time to the 80s and how we

- Why do LEGO toys have value to you?

LEGO is something I always have, and always will love. it is a ownderufl product apt for all ages and it lets you imagination run wild. You cna build what you see in you mind. It is the the brick of expression.

- What makes LEGO brand construction toys worth your money?

Well, they aren't exactly worth my money. In europe they cost roughly 15-10% more than in America. I see that hardly fair, for the US dollar is worth less than the Euro. But, that's aside the point, I guess. I love LEGO. I love Star Wars. The main sets I buy are Star Wars. I buy a few other things that are castle orientated, but mainly Star Wars.

- In what way has the LEGO brand let you down?

In many ways. Firstly, there is no renewal to the Orient Expedition theme, one of the greatest themes of all! Secondly, no more movie liscences, which I guess can be good, but we would still like to see a continuation of Spiderman and Star Wars, no to mention Harry Potter, a theme that has recently gotten good. The juniorization isn't too good either. And I'm not exactly a fan of the use of Bionicle pieces in normal sets... (EG. vikings)

- Recently, how has the LEGO brand improved?

The models for the movie themes, i.e Star Wars, have improved alot. The SandCrawler is a wonderful model, and the episode III sets are all good, apart from the Fianl Duel set.

- What would you like to see LEGO (re)introduce in the next three years?

The ninja theme coimng back from the dead would bring such a broad smile to my face that I would have stretch marks on my cheeks for the next five years. There was great potential in that theme, but you killed it. A re-introduction of the ninja theme would be something that everyone would love.

- What does LEGO need to do to sell more products for less cost to them?

Make sets that come with minifigures and some accesories, but make them quite low price. This means more people will but them, and you will get mroe money than you would if they were expensive. Also, this would be good in the Star Wars theme. That way, HASBRO can't stop you. You make a set with, for example, four Clone or Storm Trooper, a 6x12 baseplate and a little mountain piece, or a little window. You could make these and call them adventure packs, and they could be joined together to amke a big set if oyu collect them all. Lots of people would buy these, and HASBRO would stay off your back.

- What reason(s) do you have for not buying new LEGO sets?

The price is very silly. Well, apart from teh Sandcrawler, which in my eyes has an excellent price.

- What would it take for you to spend more money on new LEGO products versus buying sets/parts on the second hand markets?

Well, as I said before, making thos eminifig sets, and amking cheaper part sets, aimed at different themes. For example, there could be a Ninja accesory set with ninja accesories, and a ninja part set, with pieces good for making ninja stuff.

- What will it take for LEGO to remain the best construction toy for all ages and be a profitable company?

This isn't a question i cna easily awnser, but try to put you efforts into teh "System" lines.

- What are your home country, first name and age?

George Phull, 13, Great Britain, currently residing in Spain.

Why do LEGO toys have value to you?

they have value to me because i am a big child and i love lego pirates, when i was 4, my parents bought me some legos, but i was too little to know built the sets. when i was 8 i became a lego fanatic. In 1996 i found a 1993 catalogue, pirates were always my favourites, and i saw imperial trading post, skull's eye schonner, rock island refuge and other interesting sets, while in 1996 imperial sets are only two, and the santa cruz(the armada ship of that year) had only a cannon. I was looking for non-released legos lots of times, and i could buy Imperial trading post, skull's eye schooner, rock island refuge, cannon cove and non-pirate sets non-released yet like robin hood sets of lego castle.

well, other lego system themes(castle, space, submarine, etc) have value for me because there are nostalgia, but pirates have value for me because they are my favourites, and now i have 18 years old and i continue playing with lego pirates.

What makes LEGO brand construction toys worth your money?

i don't know, lot of times without buying LEGO

In what way has the LEGO brand let you down?

To cancelling pirates theme in 1997! pirates were the best legos, the first legos which hadn't a stupid face with a stupid smile like this: :) .they had a lot of good things, they were very funny and things like skull's eye schooner are pieces of art!

But in 1994, islanders were a stupid sub-theme.

ah, and knight's kingdom are worse than the old lego castle, 1995 royal knights were the best in lego castle.

Recently, how has the LEGO brand improved?

recently, nothing. But i'd like to say they improved when they stopped to make stupid faces with stupid smiles. First lego castle( Crusaders, the oldest black knights, robin hood, etc) had that stupid face, same as old lego space(clasic, futuron, M-Tron, first space police, and blacktron). And they improved with the new face in lego castle (1992 black knights, wolf people, dragon knights, royal knights...but not Fright Knights, they were the worst in castle theme) and in lego space( 1992 space police, also called "the green guys", spyrius, and the best, exploriens)

What would you like to see LEGO (re)introduce in the next three years?

PIRATES PIRATES AND MORE PIRATES, it would be good a pirates PC game or videogame (but no a 4+ pirate game)

What does LEGO need to do to sell more products for less cost to them?

to put a very hight price

What reason(s) do you have for not buying new LEGO sets?

i don't buy lego sets because i only play with pirates and they aren't pirates actually (well, there are on Ebay)

What would it take for you to spend more money on new LEGO products versus buying sets/parts on the second hand markets?

I think all of you know the reply, i am always talking about pirates

What will it take for LEGO to remain the best construction toy for all ages and be a profitable company?

re-release old lego sets to nostalgy peope

What are your home country, first name and age?

My name is not your business, i have 18 years old and i am from spain

Why do LEGO toys have value to you?

They unleash imagination! I can pay no higher compliment!

What makes LEGO brand construction toys worth your money?

Multi-use, back compatibility (pre colour change), and potential to build many things with the same pieces.... And of course the carefully crafted quality.

In what way has the LEGO brand let you down?

COLOUR CHANGE!!! I am switching to buying old sets because of this...

Also I have recieved 5 flawed/missing parts in new lego sets in the last 6 months... before this it was 2 for many years.

Recently, how has the LEGO brand improved?

Designer sets. Larger piece counts.

What would you like to see LEGO (re)introduce in the next three years?

Their own themes! Castle, Pirate, Space etc.

What does LEGO need to do to sell more products for less cost to them?

Change colour back... better set design and less <insert that tiresome argument> pieces.

What reason(s) do you have for not buying new LEGO sets?

Colour Change!!! Inferior sets and very uninspiring inclusions such as multi-coloured knights...

What would it take for you to spend more money on new LEGO products versus buying sets/parts on the second hand markets?

Change the Colour back!!! Bring sets back to the standard of the old sets you are 'competing' with.

What will it take for LEGO to remain the best construction toy for all ages and be a profitable company?

Better set design. Return to their own themes rather than quick-fix endorsements and creativity crushers. Stick with the basic 'potential' that lego has always sold.

What are your home country, first name and age?

Ireland, Nathan

Is there anything you would like to say with this last question that you feel someone at LEGO should not go without reading?

The Coulour Change is just now taking full effect on my buying as the last old colour sets diappear.

Why do LEGO toys have value to you?

Cause it's a great toy which gives persons a reason to unfold their creativity.

What makes LEGO brand construction toys worth your money?

I haven't bought a LEGO set now on a very long time, mostly I buy cause of the awesome mini-figs, not about the set itself. However, the bricks and everything else is often if not always of very high quality.

In what way has the LEGO brand let you down?

Light-Up lightsabers is a very stupid idea. It makes a mini-fig less poseable and is there just for making children buy the expensive set it comes in. Same with flashlights and all that. Another thing is all the color changes, the "Flesh-Toned" mini-figs looks plain awful and the thrown away original LEGO colors like brown, blue and grey are lost to new disgusting colors.

Recently, how has the LEGO brand improved?

Buying up Movie Line licenses.

What would you like to see LEGO (re)introduce in the next three years?

More movie lines, of all these super-hero movies coming I hate that LEGO has decided that there won't be any Spiderman 3 sets.

What does LEGO need to do to sell more products for less cost to them?

Remove the mini-figs from the sets and sell them in own boxes for about 5 bucks.

What reason(s) do you have for not buying new LEGO sets?

All sets are very expensive, a set like Final Duel II, includes thirteen pieces and two mini-figs. The prize for this is 10-12 bucks while it's worth 5-7 bucks.

What would it take for you to spend more money on new LEGO products versus buying sets/parts on the second hand markets?

That LEGO starts selling their figs in packs.

What will it take for LEGO to remain the best construction toy for all ages and be a profitable company?

LEGO will probably already be the best construction toy while rivals like Megablocks will probably be destroyed later. But if not I still say that they shall buy up more Movie Lines cause that will do collectors more eager to buy it just to have a collection. Just look at the masses of Star Wars.

Why do LEGO toys have value to you?

You can make wathever you want with Lego and compared to 'fake' brands, it has a great quality!

What makes LEGO brand construction toys worth your money?

THe good quality, I've got Lego from when my mom was little and it's still perfect.

In what way has the LEGO brand let you down?

Peachies. I hate them so much. It's was stupid to create the peach skinned figs, all hail the true yellow figs. The color change itself, I don't hate, it's just an addition to the old colors, so more colors are avaible to us.

What would you like to see LEGO (re)introduce in the next three years?

True castle. The Power Rangers have improved, but their colors still suck, I know it's created for kids, but the early knights weren't in rainbow colors either and they sold...

What reason(s) do you have for not buying new LEGO sets?

1) I'm broke

2) I love Star Wars, but the peachies and LULs are holding me back to buy much Star Wars.

What would it take for you to spend more money on new LEGO products versus buying sets/parts on the second hand markets?

Lego selling more bulk packs and loose minifigs for a good price.

What are your home country, first name and age?

Why do LEGO toys have value to you?

I grew up with it. Lots of people said it but it's true: it helps develop your creativity, your ability to find solutions to constructional problems, and it's fun. And with building techniques of the recent past (e.g. SNOT) you can now build almost anything.

What makes LEGO brand construction toys worth your money?

I still have LEGO from the late 70s. It looks used, of course, but i can still use it.

In what way has the LEGO brand let you down?

Movie licenses. Invent, don't do "reverse engineering".

Too much juniorization. A bit is ok, but the Dump Truck is horrible.

Color change. New colors are good but keep the old ones, for chrissake! I was most disappointed that the extra locomotive and train car for the 4511 came in a different gray than the 4511 itself. Sorry, but that was plain stupid.

Disappearance of the smiling yellow minifig head. I liked it. Different face-expressions are ok but barely ulteriorly applicable. At least let them all smile.

Why isn't Discovery Channel being continued? I like that theme and think it had the possibility to become LEGO's educational theme for all ages.

Recently, how has the LEGO brand improved?

Going back to their own designs and developing them (e.g. City, Trains).

What would you like to see LEGO (re)introduce in the next three years?

Develop the classic themes (City, Trains, Classic Castle/Space, Pirates), keep sets around a bit longer. Don't change "looks" every year, let sets match older ones.

What does LEGO need to do to sell more products for less cost to them?

Hmm... tough one, but wouldn't using existing bricks more instead of molding new ones every year do the trick?

What reason(s) do you have for not buying new LEGO sets?

The high prices in Europe (Why is that, anyways? Really!). No "additions packs" like minifigs (and if, too many for too high a price), not enough different bulk packs, not enough "small sets" (e.g. minifig plus car or the like).

What would it take for you to spend more money on new LEGO products versus buying sets/parts on the second hand markets?

Make sort of a pick-a-brick available at S@H (every piece in every color), minifig packs, more diversity in bulk packs, small sets that you could put together to a bigger one.

What will it take for LEGO to remain the best construction toy for all ages and be a profitable company?

Stick with the quality and take up some of your "old philosophy". See last paragraph.

What are your home country, first name and age?

Austria, Martin, 33

Is there anything you would like to say with this last question that you feel someone at LEGO should not go without reading?

Don't overthrow your entire philosophy and risk ruining a good business for a market you can't win: LEGO is a construction toy, not a playing toy per se. You can play with it by *building* different things. There'll always be people who won't buy LEGO. So what?

Kids need "change", they get bored with their toys pretty fast nowadays. If they can build more different things with just one box of LEGO, if themes are more expandable (e.g. more of City, not just Police and Fire), they will stick with it.

LEGO is still known to everybody. Let it be known as what it was, has been, and will be: a quality construction system you can play with - for a loooooong time. And the "problem" with cheap imitators will solve itself...

Why do LEGO toys have value to you?

They have been a part of my life since my childhood, one of the only "toys" that I have never got bored of. Lego helps me to express my ideas and creativity and that is something I really enjoy.

What makes LEGO brand construction toys worth your money?

I love the uniqueness of Lego. (Apart from the rip-off clone brands) Lego is the only creative toy in the toy market. I really enjoy the building, taking apart and re-designing of Lego, if you get bored you can create something new!

In what way has the LEGO brand let you down?

Ok, so Lego is for kids, but recently (the last few years) Lego has been introducing too many Junior sets/pieces. The Jack stone and 4+ style bricks are just too big and really take away the real purpose of Lego. Lego is all about using your imagination and creativity, but with these big pieces it requires little imagination to build something with them.

Recently, how has the LEGO brand improved?

By going back to their roots and not depending on movie licenses. The recent sets such as the construction and Viking ranges show that the Lego designers are still capable of creating sets of the same standard of which we saw in the 80

Why do LEGO toys have value to you?

2. The pleasure of playing with with the kids.

3. Relaxation. Get's my mind away from a stressfull day.

What makes LEGO brand construction toys worth your money?

In what way has the LEGO brand let you down?

The very short version of this answer would be: "Changing three major colors"

Recently, how has the LEGO brand improved?

That is easy. "Return to the brick". The announcement that LEGO would return to the brick.

No more special colors, no more special bricks. Back to BASIC. YES.

This is for me (And my kids - mind you) THE RIGHT WAY!

Give 'em a pile of normal color - normal bricks and they are busy for hours.

What would you like to see LEGO (re)introduce in the next three years?

Tough one.

1. Continue SW. This is why I am an AFOL in the first place *wub*

2. Expand the 9V train series! An AFOL dream.

a. Remote controlled points

b. Alternative tracks. Half tracks/larger circles and so on.

c. Engines and wagons in seperate packs. Like the Santa Fe concept.

3. City sets other than police/firestation/contruction.

a. eg. shops with different goods. Bakery/Sports/And so on.

b. Cars for the city. Firm replications/ lorries / buses / and so on.

4. Modelteam *wub*

a. alternative to 5571. I would *wub* more of this kind.

5. Mindstorm developed

a. Just ASK what an engineer needs :|

BUT for the kids ;)

1. More "use your imagination" set.

a. Sets (BULK lots) with 1 billion alternative models.

What does LEGO need to do to sell more products for less cost to them?

Make small sets with a lot of figs. They sell!! At the marked on the way out!

Kids today are more influenced by TV than ever. So....... Make a minifig EPIC.

Look at programs as Teletubbies *sick* Pokemon *sick* bayblade *sick* and so on.

BUT THIS SELL. Unfortunately. So a minifig series *satis* "Life in a LEGO city ;)" or what ever theme you need sold.

Some steps were taken with the Bionicle movies! The kids love them - and it made my son - not even 6 yet - ask for Bionicle. (Even when he had a hard time pronouncing it)

SW, HP, Spidey will not last forever! So MAKE you own epic!

What reason(s) do you have for not buying new LEGO sets?

What would it take for you to spend more money on new LEGO products versus buying sets/parts on the second hand markets?

Nothing. I am spending more on new LEGO products than second hand markets.

What will it take for LEGO to remain the best construction toy for all ages and be a profitable company?

What are your home country, first name and age?

Denmark, Some call me John even when it is not my real name ;), above 35 :^D

Is there anything you would like to say with this last question that you feel someone at LEGO should not go without reading?

LEGO has been awarded toy of the century. And it certainly is. But that also puts LEGO under an obligation to deliver the best always. This is a hard and ungreatful path so beware.

LEGO now have two markeds. One for kids and one for adults ;) And even if the marked for kids is larger - kids grow up - and become AFOLs if the influence is right. So stay focused!

So - I have started :$ And will edit as I get done(or refine my answer) *glasses*

If one is allowed to edit how does one mark the answer as done :^D

Not done yet ;)

Why do LEGO toys have value to you?

It first has a great sentimental value to me: my beloved grandma (RIP) always offered some small sets when I came to sleep at her appartment when I was a kid !!!! And off course Lego became my favorite toy and I asked Lego at each bdays and christmas.

What makes LEGO brand construction toys worth your money?

Lego is THE construction brand by excellence.

The quality of parts is excellent and you can enjoy building tons of things, whatever age you are !!!!!

In what way has the LEGO brand let you down?

Well, first they got rid of the best themes such as classic space and pirate !!!!!

Furthermore, the big juniorization wave is striking our fantasy construction brand !!!

Also, there aren't enough minifigs in bigger sets and the prices are still too high !!!

Finally, Lego abandonned the SW licence (THE reason that made me come back to Lego).

Recently, how has the LEGO brand improved?

2005 is a fantastic year and 2006 will be as great (if not better) !!!!

Lego came back to their real theme such as city in a great way !!! I have the feeling that they will come back to the glorious days !!!!

Also new great themes emerge such as Viking !!!!

What would you like to see LEGO (re)introduce in the next three years?

Concerning reintroduction, I would love to see Space, Pirates, Divers, New Adventurers

Concerning Introduction, I would love to see historical themes (Greeks, Romans, Egyptians...). I also would love sculptures representing the greatest architectural monuments (Eiffel Tower, Pyramids...)

What does LEGO need to do to sell more products for less cost to them?

First, cutting down the number of colors.

Then also reduce the packaging !!! The boxes are really too big.

Finally, reducing the amount of <insert that tiresome argument> parts.

What reason(s) do you have for not buying new LEGO sets?

The only reason would be the price !!!!

What would it take for you to spend more money on new LEGO products versus buying sets/parts on the second hand markets?

Once again the price !!!

Also, Lego S@H should carry a very broad selection of spare parts, minifigs and accessories !!

What will it take for LEGO to remain the best construction toy for all ages and be a profitable company?

Create great new themes at more affordable prices !!!!!!

What are your home country, first name and age?

My name is Gaston, I am French and I am 30 years old.

Is there anything you would like to say with this last question that you feel someone at LEGO should not go without reading?

I would love to see more "Pick A Brick" and Lego stores (France is really poor in both).

What would it you like to see LEGO (re)introduce in the next three years?

The Classic themes that i grow up with (Space, Westernand Pirats), would be great as new system sets. I like the Knight Kingdom Sets, but an More Classic themed Castle them would be great.

And more minifigs in sets

What does LEGO need to do to sell more products for less cost to them?

Lego needs to make each set Unique, so there is something new in each set. This is most importent in the Big sets.

What reason(s) do you have for not buying new LEGO sets?

Cost..... Some sets cost too much (Sandcrawler etc)

What would it take for you to spend more money on new LEGO products versus buying sets/parts on the second hand markets?

Why do LEGO toys have value to you?

I have enjoyed LEGO for over 25yrs. It has had a part in developing my mind (spatial relations, creativity, problem solving). They are valuable to me as a stress reliever. It is my hobby.

What makes LEGO brand construction toys worth your money?

The precision manufacturing process which makes the bricks and other elements almost perfect. The old Castle theme was very cool and LEGO has done a great job with the StarWars line.

In what way has the LEGO brand let you down?

The discontinuation of historically similar Castle line. But they have many other good lines, just not teh ONE that most appeals to me.

Recently, how has the LEGO brand improved?

The creator sets are very cool. Builing Bonanza is a great set. The new Knight's Kingdom line is a big improvement over the first, and over Fright Knights. The Original Trilogy StarWars sets (Sandcrawler) that are being released are very good. More bricks, less big elements in many of this years sets. Oh, yes....VIKINGS!!

What would you like to see LEGO (re)introduce in the next three years?

Historically reasonable Castle, Pirates. More affordable basic elements from S@H. The Vikings should be expanded to include buildings and agriculture. Premolded cows, pigs and chickens, as we have cool horses, rats, birds and owls. Not a big fan of too much premolded, but to stay with scale of minifigs, it is OK.

What does LEGO need to do to sell more products for less cost to them?

I have no idea. The licensed sets seem to have a low piece count for the MSRP. I guess, making available what people who are fans of LEGO would like to see. Not bowing to every whim, but rather, trying to capatalize on a known group. A lot of people I talk to in stores think LEGO is expensive, and it is. But it is quality, high quality. A lot of todays kids could care less. I buy only LEGO for my neices and nephews in order to spread the fascination (for my 2 children as well).

What reason(s) do you have for not buying new LEGO sets?

Money is always an issue. But if I see a set I really want, there is no stopping me. Mostly a lack of interest in what is offered. Too many large molded parts in recent years and not enough bricks and basic elements. A swiveling door can be used as....a swiveling door, and one or two of these in a collection is enough. When a siege tower is made out of the frames.....well, you get the idea. More usable pieces are a must.

What would it take for you to spend more money on new LEGO products versus buying sets/parts on the second hand markets?

More useful Castle minifigs. More basic elements in sets. A lot of what I have already mentioned, including lowering the prices of certain basic bricks on S@H (2xn and 1xn)

What will it take for LEGO to remain the best construction toy for all ages and be a profitable company?

See the products from 1978 (introduction of minifigs) through to the early 90's? That is what has brought LEGO a devout fan base. The StarWars figs are cool and the sets are based on a timeless tale of adventure, which started in 1977, but has a new interest with the young people today. Perhaps the "old" LEGO themes would appeal to this generation in a similar way (no need to reinvent the wheel)?

What are your home country, name and age?

Canada. Troy T. Moore. 32.
