I ordered a few 2018 Lego Eleves sets from the US Toys-R-Us site earlier this week and received this one today.  This is a fun little set and I think worth the $15 USD.  One mini-doll (the titular Emily Jones herself) and one of the new creature molds, Vespe the bat.  Also includes one of the new(er?) spider molds.  Didn’t take long to build, at 149 pieces, but packs a lot of play value into a small package.  A surprise to me was the lack of a sticker sheet; NO STICKERS here, everything is a printed piece.

Emily Jones is what we’ve come to expect and she includes the separate amulet piece introduced last year (a spare is also included, but not featured with my pics).  Different prints for her outfit but the face and hair are the same as last year.

Vespe the bat is pretty cute and a neat mold.  Smaller than the goblins but still packed with personality.  I’m looking forward to having a small army of these.

The cave build is sufficient.  Lots of the colorful and whimsical touches we’ve come to expect from the Elves world but different enough from previous locales to set it apart.  As seen in pics, the top portion of the cave separates into a little flyer that shoots disks from the front.  It’s neat!   One thing I didn’t notice at first was the inclusion of a bed for Vespe on the wall; very cool!  The packaging does a nice job of showing off the rest of the features so I won’t drag this out any longer.

Probably the most anticipated part of this set is the buildable Lumia The Eagle.  It’s definitely a very simple, but creative build.  Not quite as articulated as I’d prefer, using clips instead of ball joints, but serviceable.  The colors look great and the printed eye pieces are very welcome, as they line up perfect and you don’t need to worry about a cockeyed bird due to misplaced stickers.

I really love the Elves theme and I’m really excited to see where it goes.  I’ve included pics from the end of the manual and I think the Elvendale map gives us a couple of clues to a possible summer wave.

Thank you for your well-written review! Its quite a charming set and it looks like you really get some decent value for the price. :classic:

The photos are well arranged, but I would try a neutral surface and background. White cardboard, or a light tent, to make the subject stand out better.

Glad you liked it!  It really is a fun little set and I agree, feels worth the price.

Thanks for the tip.  I’ve never posted a Lego review before so I’ll have to look into getting a better set up before I do Noctura’s Tower (just built the Earth Fox, so cool).

When I started Lego photography, I got a light tent with two LED lamps for a very reasonable price on amazon. Some have a more elaborated setup but it does the trick for me. :classic:

Could I trouble you for a link to that light tent?  That sounds like a good idea.

That was about two years ago on the UK site, so that might not help you much. But it was a 50x50 cm size one, for about 30 pounds. Search terms are light box and light tent.

I saw photobucket placeholders before, now I see the actual pics.

All I am seeing is the placeholder pic. Maybe it needs to be set to public. Or something was copied wrong because their is "http://" before the placeholder.

Sorry all, I don’t have another way to share the pics.  The folder is public; clicking on the placeholder pics takes you to them.  All of the pics were here yesterday but PhotoBucket has weird restrictions on 3rd party sharing.
