Well get those earmuffs out - its Eurovision time again as the countries begin to select their songs.

Ireland is sending a real turkey to the competition this year.

Let the torture begin

PS - sorry for typo in thread heading

That was.... interesting.

Oh well, how I wish the whole show would be really made only with turkeys.... an improvement, for sure. :-|

But sorry, I won

I thought the whole thing was amusing at first, and the hullaballoo over the story here in Ireland all the more hilarious. However, I've now seen/heard it for the first time on the BBC News story on their site.

I don't know what to say. What on earth are people in the rest of Europe going to think of Ireland after this? It will surely only reinforce any concept of us as uncouth uncultured chancers. And if it is positively received, in many ways that is altogether worse, showing just how deranged everyone is here in Europe...

Ah well, it'll no doubt get viewing figures for Eurovision up here in Ireland at least, so the organisers can't really complain too much. I suppose it's a less false cultural sharing than many Eurovision entries too, and does at least follow that spirit of the contest. Though really, there is a reason people keep up facades - sometimes it is better not to show one's deranged side!

I don't entirely understand Eurovision's detractors, as the contest is about sharing with other European countries and so even the bad entries tell a lot. It's good to at least laugh together, or be appalled together, or bored together or occasionally enjoy some songs together.

I'll probably watch UK coverage pre-voting again though; the Irish voice-over is a bit inane and sure the UK voiceover is Irish anyways, even if Terry Wogan really does seem to hate the show.

It's like that Father Ted episode. Ireland have won it so many times and can't afford to host it, so they send Ted and Dougal to ensure that they don't win. Great stuff! :-D

Nearly as bad as the uk entry last year.

Amusingly according to one newpaper the eurovision people are looking to see if they can ban it as in invalid entry. Quote - One highly placed source said:

That is probably one of the worst songs I have ever heard :-X . Even worse than our entry last year!!

Ireland's reputation will go down the Thomas_Crapper.jpg

What are they trying to pull off?

although this is eurovision so what can you expect? X-D

I think it's great. X-D

12 points to Ireland. It's much better that what Denmark delivers and that contest deserves all the mockery it can get after what we saw last year. Tactical votings FTL.

I can't think of any Western country thinking any less of Ireland or its inhabitants because of this.

I don't like this song, but if it is a protest to the takeover of eastern europe for the songfestival, I don't care about it. In the eighties was the songfestival still interesting. If you don't care about the bad songs which always goes to the second round. you still can enjoy it.

I can see one thing this song is good for: a toilet break. I've tried to listen to it but simply can't, because the voice alone is repulsive. Skipping forward didn't help much either. Blech!

I am eagerly waiting what the "Nordic Counsil" are going to say. But they are probably going to state something similar to what I did, if they can be bothered to.
