This is indeed much better, very nice scale model. The stickers are nice finishing touch. Are the pontons easily detachable? Care to take a picture without them?

Yes, the pontoons are just slip on/off. in the photo they attach to the upright 3l axels in LBG on the skids. it just doesn't look half as good without them.

also I just noticed that the canopy rigid hose top to bottom one has come out of shape and is more of a round bubble so I need to fix that to have a more tear drop, or flatter front shape like the LDD renders and the real thing. Other than that and a couple other missing small bits it will now just sit on my shelf for sometime, but overall happy with the build and probably enjoyed the digital build more than anything surprisingly.

Seeing this for first time.  I learned to 3D model in Solidworks by modeling all the parts to build the 8412 Nighthawk. Still have the parts on a CD. It was very similar to your model. Great job.

thank you for the comments! appreciate the feedback.

If anyone is interested to look at, or modify etc, there is a LXF file here http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/MangaNOID/Helicopter/calypso_new_rotor.lxf

Its not totally correct to the real build and there may be some 'loose' areas, inside the floats mostly. It was more of a guide to the real build not an exact thing to build from.

last pic also before signing out. I fixed the canopy just a little to take better shape to the original. Hopefully some parts get re-coloured soon from Lego to complete the build or I may have to get the paint out

I found your MOC about two weeks ago and loved it!

I work with these helicopters and how close you got to the general composition and scale is very impressive, the shape of the canopy is also amazingly accurate. Because I would love to have a lego model like this I downloaded your .lxf file.

Upon opening I lost about 200 parts for some reason so I had to reconstruct some parts, as I now was already working on it I got hooked and continued to adjust and improve the awesome work you already performed. To get a model as close I could get to the real thing. Today I finished the model. It became a standard Schweizer 300 S269C.

You can find it here: https://www.mecabricks.com/en/models/JV2yVJKKjyQ

I put a reference to this topic and the Lego ideas page in the description.

Thank you for releasing the .lxf file as I could have never started this from scratch myself, this is actually the first digital lego creation I did.

I’m now looking to order all the parts so I can build it in real life.

Great stuff, I’m glad someone has made use of the lx build. I think it was a bit messy as it was my first digital build so not very ‘modular’ to easily work with.

I look forward very much to seeing what yours will look like with the changes.

the only real building quirk in real life was getting the tail ‘straight’ without sagging in its long length. And yours from the link looks a little different from my real build. It might be the LDD file as that was more of a guide build than a definitive build. You may not need the tip, but take note that you may need to lengthen the gap between the technic bricks like in the photo of my one a couple posts up. The brick may need to come forward to the angle support beam.

I can’t remember entirely whether it’s that important but I’m sure your work it out. But those axles are for ‘stretching’ the bricks a little with the half axle bush to Un-sag the tail.

I hope you post your topic when it’s done 👍

I just looked at this again on my PC and realised I can zoom in on your image that's also 3D and movable!

I really like the changes and the extras you have on there. I may incorporate some of these when I have time. fuel caps, exhaust, swash plate simulator and I like the undercarriage/landing gear too it looks a lot neater!  which is good as you wont have floats to hide it

great to see this coming from an engineer working on the actual vehicles.

Thanks, I’m really happy with the result, it really looks like the real deal now.

I’ve spent the day ordering all parts via Bricklink. I had to change quite a lot of parts due to the colors not being available or extremly rare. A white cross axle 3L costs €22..... so black it is, as they’re not visible anyway.

Hopefully I didn’t have to change too much. Once all parts are in and I can start building I’ll keep you updated.
