Okay guys, let's not turn this into a "re-release wish topic". You can create a new topic if you like, but there is probably already a future set wish topic.

Sounds like someone just lost a lot of money with this release

Actually, no.  I do not own a single Taj Mahal.  I have an incomplete one I picked up this summer from a neighbor.  It's missing the first instruction book, and I don't know how many pieces.  I do have about 70 sealed bags of pieces, though.  I spent all of $45 on it.  It'll be good for my winter village.  Or, now that it's coming back out, maybe I'll inventory it, figure out what's missing, and build it.

Others are right - this is not the first re-release (I'm looking at you Death Star and Winter Toy Shop).  Only time will tell, though, if I'm saying the sky is falling, or if it really does.

I value this brand, and I value those things that are special.  I love the uniqueness of big sets, and I love that big sets tend not to be re-released.  I want LEGO to look forward, not backward.  There are so many other interesting buildings to create and sell, that putting out a set that has already been done just reeks of being lazy and greedy.

And no, I don't believe I have to MOC for a LEGO set to be considered special.  If I didn't think LEGO was special, I wouldn't be buying it.

Wonder if this means TLG are open to relaxing their policy on buildings of religious significance? I know technically the TM is a tomb but has origins of Hindu temple.

So many other great buildings have lost out, and yet we have a rerelease of this? Seems strange.

Where are you getting that it has "origins of Hindu temple"? It has never been anything but a mausoleum, and its only religious motifs are Islamic, not Hindu. Also, seeing as this is a re-release of a set that came out nearly ten years ago, it can't really be a sign of LEGO relaxing any kind of content-related policies.

There's also no reason to think other buildings "lost out". Big Ben came out just last year, and the landmarks series isn't one that tends to get a new set every year without fail. So if we were going to get a new building, it probably wouldn't have been until 2018 anyhow. I have also heard some claims that Taj Mahal is one of the most requested LEGO sets at many LEGO stores, despite how long it's been retired. That and the fact that it doesn't really use any particularly rare parts are probably why it got re-released.

I wonder if somebody already made some mods to it.

I search the baseplates in reddish brown instead of blue, so it represents more the real floor.

And indeed the towers are a bit unstable...

Gonna receive my set next Tuesday

Busy with building the Taj Mahal.

Made some small mods, so the building has perfect mirrored walls, cause some tiles are placed otherwise on the Original one.

Also busy with replacing the yellow roof parts (in reality gold) to Pearl Gold parts, but it seems there are dark and light bricks in this, so I have light and dark studs in those color.

Which color is on all the bricks the same, color gold?

Thanks!
