for the life of me, i can't figure out why people pay so much more for single minifigures when you can get the same minifigs from the Castle Chess set or some of the smaller castle sets. for example, people are bidding a lot on ebay auctions to get popular individual minifigs like the new dwarves, princess and evil wizard, but you could just get these figures in new sets (dwarves mine, skeleton tower) only a little bit more. with lego sets being so expensive, doesn't it make sense to get the entire sets just sell off the other unwanted pieces?

maybe a good poll to ask is:

- do you build armies (skeleton armies, crown soldiers) or not?

and if you do, HOW do you usually build your armies? bricklink for individual minifigs, buy lots of small sets, ebay for good deals, or buy large sets with lots of minifigs?

i still think the castle chess set is the best way to build armies..

most people don't want to deal with the hassle of parting and selling the other bricks, so they prefer to just buy the mfs.

it may look like a good deal but bear in mind ebay sellers pay ebay listing fees, final purchase fees and paypal payment fees. all that can quickly add up. :-P so if you are a retailer that can buy lego directly from TLC for 38% below MSRP, then yeah...you can part out sets and sell the mfs and make good money. for normal lego fans, you're lucky to break even.

Since I only deal with American Civil War, I can't really do anything but purchase them individually. I try to find a seller on bricklink who has a considerable quantity, and e-bay is a no-no for me since cavalry figs seem to go for a lot more there than on bricklink. If there was a Wild West Chess set other than that video game, believe me, I would have gotten a couple.

well I dont know why people buy them, but I sell them because I don't need some of my excess... I can usually make the cost of a chess set back by selling half of it. But,,, the floor has really fell out on the Mini Market for the new castle other than the special mfs.

I like variety(sometimes)what I ussally do I just buy sets as I go along I put my crowns with my original knights kingdom and the skellatons with the bad guys in the newer knights kingdom and I just bought the new chess thats on sale insted of buying a couple of crossbow attacks but I two dwarf mines so that I could make sinner's dwarve's mine (or was it hinckley's???)and it looks great! The reason I do not buy the sets in bulk is because I think will come out with something better : ).(but I am waiting for the kings castle seige to go on sale)

Well, typically I get most of my minifigs from smaller sets. That being said, I don't have a huge army of castle figs. Alltogether I probably only have 250-300 castle figs (not including the skeles , KKII and any other fantasy figs who simply gather dust in a bin). I don't really want too many of any given faction as I prefer my armies to be varried in appearance. I'm really not big on lining up 500 of the same minifigs. They just look like clones rather that appearing to be a natural army.

I also have the benefit of having collected my figs over many years. I have about 60-70 BFs, 30-40 Lions, 50 Black Knights and a variety of others that I received as a lad. This of course makes it easier to expand my army as I already had a pretty solid base to work with. Right now I'd rather see a new faction as I already have amassed alot of Crownies (over 40), so they have become a large enough group. I'd love to see LEGO introduce another human faction in the future. The more the better.

And yet, I can't get enough of lining up hundreds of the same minifigs for a uniformed look. Different strokes for different folks! X-D
