I just read the "end of EF" topic again, and somehow I still find my ideas interesting...

And maybe we EF fans around here can improve those ideas and come up with a "modular city" style Exo Force theme?!

Here are some inspirations, copied from the thread:

A basic wall segment set (castles siege tower /w wall segment, back in the old days. I know you remember blink.gif)

With weapon sleds just as the real 7709 set offers, lots of firepower to defend the walls, little bit of baseplate stuff, small accessories and personel.

Buy as many as you want of these, depending how big your HQ shall become.

A Mech Bay. Not to be confused with Michael Bay. Could hold up to three big Mechs. Comes with maintenance personel, crane, spare parts, tools, small hovercraft units, Uplink-like maintenance mechs...

A hospital. Bigger than the platform that comes in 7709 of course. With airspeeder, small vehicle, 1 injured pilot, 2 citizens and 2 doctors

Search and Rescue set. With airspeeder, Recovery vehicle, watchtower, landing platform, office, terminal room and SAR crew

Airforce platform. Basically like the platforms in 7709, just bigger again. Space for 2 big Air Mechs, storage room for small air units (like the promo set flyers or the small Mech in Gate Defence) and platform for two or three small speeders/air mechs. With restroom for airforce personel, refueling station and maintenance personel.

Main Defence Tower. Like the one in 7709, just bigger again. With detention cell, big computer room/office, soldiers, gun turrets...

Recreation, Housing etc...

Say, are you game for this project? Who

Can someone do just vehicles and still join this? I honestly don't have the right parts for any buildings that look decent, but I could build mechs - right now I have a nice, futuristic looking hovercraft-style vehicle that can also be used on the water (Though it's yellow =P), and I might take apart my Y-Wing soon for more white parts...

I'm in. We should do 32x32 Modules to have a large area like in the Moon Base Project so we could make use of space for the mechs, housing, and walls. Plus, we could have some sort of indoor transport vehicle like a monorail for large transport in long distances using train tracks. *y*

Sound interesting. It's certainly an idea I could see working, as long as it's popular enough. I look forward to seeing how this pans out.

As long as enough parameters are defined to make it suitable for a mass group project that is.

Great idea! It's good to see something positive here! *y*

You can count me in for a Chinese restaurant. :-$

Um... Oh, I'll think of something better than that and I can probably get Staudie to do the EF version of the tv station we broadcast from. You realise he'll want a mech now to go with his tanks. :-|

...which leads me to the question wether to make only combat-oriented MOCs or to implement "civilian" buildings, too?

After all, EF is an action theme, with a big battle between humans and robots. But humans need some recreation and civilian life, don

Yes, in fact, I'm almost certain that there are several small "villages" (more like outposts; EF would obviously be set in the future) that we could build (with transit hubs, kind of like the moonbase corridors/roads/etc), and I suspect that Sentai Fortress is, aside from likely being MUCH bigger, a "final defense" situated between two mountainsides (choke points yay) before a large civilian city. Sound good?

As for my vehicles, I've now built two more - I now have a decent sized human "laser ram" that can be used to breach the Robot's base (it would be a tank, but the laser cannon doesn't turn), and two "hover patrol" vehicles - one of which looks rather Aqua-Raiders inspired right now, but will be changed later; and one of which looks like a lot of Exo-Force (the designs are custom EF-style torsos without limbs, but with large jets coming from the top-back) mixed with a little Star Wars (it's almost an alt. model of the Y-Wing, though XD - in fact, change a few pieces around and it is)...I'll PM you the pics first before posting them as part of this project, alright?

(I probably won't include the buggy; though I find parts of the design genius, it just doesn't really "fit" - or look good from anywhere but the top XD)

I tried some modular techniques yesterday for the walls. And I think what I came up with could be used for the buildings as well.

If we have a 32x32 plate, we

Okay, I tried some more, which resulted in a mere 4 hours sleep this night before I had to get back to work.

It works really good. 5 studs free, one 1x2 brick with technic hole.

I had another thought. What do you think? Might it be a good idea to make the wall segments compatible to the official 7709 Sentai HQ walls?

I added another 2 1x2 bricks with technic holes on two more levels. Groundlevel, middle and top. So the Technic pins of the 7709 walls can be put there.

Plus, I used the same color scheme. Dark grey for the Bottom line, then light grey up to the middle, then dark grey to the top again, and tan tiles for the top.

The inside can be modified as you like. I made three different wall segments so far. One with the same color scheme as outside just with some orange details, one is white with red details, and another one is grey with a red gate to the outside and some stationary cannons on top to guard the gate.

Furthermore, I tried to copy the look of the big holes in the 7709 walls, but still "filling" them, so the inside is really protected now. This can be done in several different ways.

Add another row of 1x2 bricks from the bottom to the top every 4 studs for example, or use some bars with detailing every 4 studs or so.

The only thing different from 7709 in my creations so far is that the tiles on top are 2 studs wide instead of one. This was the result of having a 4 studs wide wall base. I was too lazy to use 1x2 to 1x1 converter plates to get a single line on top. Of course it still can be done, but I think if we are going to make the walls much bigger and stronger than 7709, a 1 stud wide line would look silly :-)

So if we are going to keep the sliding cannon sleds, the gap has just to be made one stud bigger.

I think if we can agree to this standard, we

Alright, here's the pics I've taken so far - I know, there's only a side view of the yellow one and they're generally bad quality; I'm a little under the weather right now with a flu though, so hopefully it'll hold you all over until I can get some better ones =P

The White (Y-Wing-built) one (with updated sigfig, if you can tell what he's wearing XD)

Side View of Yellow Vehicle

Again, better pics should come soon...I can't figure out how to turn off the flash, so I'm getting glare-killed =P

Yep, they do look cool, at least what I can see on the blurry and overlighted pics ;-)

However, I need some feedback for the ideas about the Modular HQ. If we really wanna tackle this project, we need to start with the base, and not with vehicles to fill the base ;-)

3 days without a single reply :-(

I know back-to-back posting is a bad attitude, but somehow it feels like suddenly everybody lost interest in the project, when it comes to the detailed planning process... :-(

Whats up folks? Are we going to tackle this or not?
