SavaTheAggie Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 Forgive me if this is in the wrong forum. Gallery The Temple of Kukulkan at Chichen Itza, known now as "El Castillo", Spanish for "The Castle." This was built for the upcoming "Wonders of the World" themed TexLUG display at the Healthy Baby and Child Expo in San Antonio. I purposely built it wrong so that it 'looked right' (the real pyramid has 9 steps, not 6). The steps are also a bit too steep, but this was built from spare parts, so I didn't have a lot of plates to donate to this project. In spite of that, using a flash light you can still see the feathered serpent just like on the real temple: --Tony Quote
Inertia Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 (edited) Wow... That looks exactly like the real version! It's very detailed as well. I think that this is the right forum to put it, it is history and adventure after all... Great job! X-D Edited February 10, 2008 by Inertia Quote
Lt. Veers Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 I've actually been to Chichen Itza, and this sure brings back memories. *wub* Quote
Asuka Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 Very cool. The snake shadow pictures work great! *y* Quote
Brickadier General Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 Very nice. I really liked how you emulated the light and shadow Serpent effect of the actual structure. But where's the human sacrifice? ;-) Quote
SavaTheAggie Posted February 11, 2008 Author Posted February 11, 2008 Thanks all! I may be adding some foliage, at the very minimum some grass to the baseplate, possibly some climbing vines. I won't be adding any blood or human sacrifice because it won't be well received at the Healthy Baby and Child Expo. --Tony Quote
SavaTheAggie Posted February 12, 2008 Author Posted February 12, 2008 (edited) A small addition to my temple. --Tony Edited February 13, 2008 by SavaTheAggie Quote
El Bucanero Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 Beatiful building! Looks good to the real thing, really. Is it made on Minifig scale? It does seem a tad small for that. Well, I'm a complete dummy when it comes to this, but I wondered, is this an Incan or an Aztec temple? Quote
Tohst Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 It looks great! Are you sure the steps are too steep? Because I remember standing at the top (when you could still go to the top) and thats about how steep they looked...or even steeper. Now if you could make a clap sound bounce off of it and sound like a bird, I'd say you were the greatest Lego builder of all time. -Tohst - scared of heights Quote

Well, I'm a complete dummy when it comes to this, but I wondered, is this an Incan or an Aztec temple? It's much smaller than minifig scale, probably half that or more. The real temple has 91 stairs per staircase, mine has only 24. Thanks! It's neither Incan nor Aztec, it's Mayan. But don't feel bad, there are a lot of architecural similarities between all three cultures. It looks great! Are you sure the steps are too steep? The steps to which I refer are the steps of the pyramid, not the stairs leading to the top. The base step of the pyramid should be wider, with the subsequent steps above being proportionally wider as well. As far as sound goes, I'm afraid I have no knowledge of the acoustic properties of ABS plastic. ;) --Tony Quote

I wouldn't think it would go over well there either. It looks like you've already sacrificed enough in the form of gray bricks. ;-) Quote
