fugglewyg Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 Hi, Hope this is the right area for this question. Just getting back into lego and am considering getting some train stuff a to go with the other bits i have, however i have been trawling through ebay and found these sets of points and wondered if there is any difference as they both have the same set number - 4513, but one sold for Quote
Stealth Hunter Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 There is a big difference:The second one is bley! And it is newer than the first one. Quote

Freddie Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 There is a big difference:The second one is [b[bley[/b]!And it is newer than the first one. Seeing how Fugglewyg is just getting back into LEGO again, he's probably not aware of what bley is. Some years ago LEGO changed the color mixture for their two grey colors, dark grey and light grey, into a grey color with more blue in the mixture. The result was blue grey (bley), or stone as it is also known as, and the differences are far from microscopical. This changeover was permanent, and not consulted with AFOL's - the result is reflected in the prices you saw - the old grey is very popular with AFOLs who have been in the hobby for a long time, and thus are not willing to pay money for an "incompatible" color - you on the other hand, who is returning, get a cheaper ticket into the hobby. Just be aware that if you buy older sets (pre 2002?) you will always get the old grey color with the set. I personally prefer the stone over grey, because I think it looks nicer while the old grey looks old, yellowed and dull. Quote
Lt. Veers Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 Just be aware that if you buy older sets (pre 2002?) you will always get the old grey color with the set. I thought the change occured around 2004-2005. Quote
kill will Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 Yes, 04 brought many bad things (Bley, KK2, Peach skin) >:-( BAD LEGO! Oh well, it can't be helped. Quote
fugglewyg Posted February 10, 2008 Author Posted February 10, 2008 Thanks for the replys guys. Wow, thats one hell of a price difference for a colour change, although i guess if all the track you already have is in one shade of grey it would look bad with the change of colour. Think if i get any track it will be in bley then !! thanks again... Quote
rupi Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 With ebay you never know, the price difference can just be pure luck ;-) I've seen same sets in same conditions beeing sold for twice the price. It depends most of who is bidding at the moment. Quote
fugglewyg Posted February 10, 2008 Author Posted February 10, 2008 Sorry to be a pain, but now i have another question then. Did the box artwork change coincide with the colour change or did lego not make it that simple *wacko* Quote
Hobbes Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 The second set is not necessarily bley. These sets came in old grey too. But the chance of getting bley parts is higher. The first sets came in old grey only. As for the price difference: that's just ebay. The first set has the old box which is now rare, and boxes have been known to sell for insane prices. So, it's just a normal ebay price difference. Which doesn't make it easy for newcomers, I know... Quote
