At the rear without a problem. The front will need some tinkering though. Two liftarms and connectors need to be repositioned. And maybe they will hit the front "fender" (not sure how that is called).

If you are redesigning the chassis anyway, you can try to apply this mod. I would love to see the result :thumbup:

If you don't mind the price and like to MOD a set, this is the set for you. You can have a lot of fun rebuilding this set. In that way it's more fun than a "perfect" set :tongue:

Thanks! I guess it's easier to redesign the whole thing.

This is a quick mock-up with central and rear locking diffs, high-low gearbox and live axles (notice the front diff mounted the wrong way - I've had those axles around for a while and couldn't be arsed to turn the diff around just for a mock-up). The trackwidth is narrower than 42070, whereas the wheelbase should be pretty close.

(Edit: the wheels are all mounted the wrong way around, too :grin: )

The priority for locking would be 1) centre 2) rear  3) front

Locking only the front would make it a 2wd with no steering capabilty. Locking the centre would give you min 3wd - one wheel on each axle.

I understand the 2wd / 3wd argument. But isn't it far more probable that one wheel on one axle looses contact than one whole axle loosing contact?

If one front wheel loses traction then all torque will go to that wheel with an open centre diff. If you lock the front diff then you will have less efficient steering and any slip from the rear wheels will transfer torque to them.

Ideally, it is best just to eliminate the centre diff as the turning circle is so wide anyway and there are no drive shafts to break, just uni joints on the front.

I understand. I thought that it might be improbable that both rear axles will lose grip.

Lower the whole thing, remove the outriggers, use independent suspension on all wheels and swap out the bed for 4 XL motors and a W16 engine.

Maybe, we can call it a dakar truck or something.

(basically a fast version without all the tow truck functions :3)

Not yet - but I started building a new crane, which is basically the same as a design I used on another tow truck.

(I have no idea why Bricksafe keeps flipping the second picture - is it because it's too penile?).

Hi all,

As this is a mod topic, I have one for you.
I the pictures you can see the HOG I've made using the second gear on the gearrack.

Replacing the batteries is still possible, you only need to remove the gear.

It took me about 30 minutes to build.
The hardest part was removing the 3L axle with stop and placing a 4L with stop.
And I had the tan gear on the wrong side, so it turns the wrong way.

You are free to use it and/or improve it.
