Lt. Col. Thok Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 (edited) This seems to be doing the rounds...there are even instructions. Kind of weird...LEGO Electric Chair Dr. S. Oy vey, that's sickening.... :-X Edited February 8, 2008 by Lt. Col. Thok Quote
hollisbrick Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 hmm is this real, if so a noce design but a bit too far for my likings :-/ |-/ Quote
Doctor Sinister Posted February 8, 2008 Author Posted February 8, 2008 Rest at ease, it's fake ;-) Stauder Oh yes, I know it's not real, just weird... Dr. S. Quote
xwingyoda Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 Just a friendly reminder hre before it starts to get nasty (don't know why I have that feeling): be cool and don't disrespect others ;-) Well I really think its really not of good taste and serves no interest at all !! (contrary to the concentration camp MOC sponsorised by Lego which educted o the atrocities of WWII - and I'm not saying that to create a debate ;-) ) OK plus having serial killers MFs is just wrong IMO !! I am very liberal on those issues but I think its a little too much. On the other hand I wouldn't have had the same problem with a prison MOC having a well done execution chamber - see the difference ? Sure its slight but its real ;-) Its the difference between promotion and showing what exists ;-) *yoda* Quote
iamded Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 Interesting. Would it be inappropriate to compliment the build? 8-| ~Peace Quote
xwingyoda Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 Interesting. Would it be inappropriate to compliment the build? 8-| ~Peace Nope not at all ;-) Promoting that as s et with box art and Charlie and his swastika on his forehead is bad taste and that is what is bothering me, NOT the MOC of an electric chair ;-) *yoda* Quote
hollisbrick Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 Interesting. Would it be inappropriate to compliment the build? 8-| ~Peace nah just the reason and the story of what it represents, because i got to say it is a nice design.. :-/ Quote
Lord Of Pies Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 The instructions are clearer than the official TLC ones at least... Quote
mutley777 Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 Hmmmm. It's kind of strange that one funny yet scary at the same time. As *yoda* said, it's probably a lego brick to far. Quote
Shadows Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 contrary to the concentration camp MOC sponsorised by Lego which educted o the atrocities of WWII Accidentally sponsored. The 'artist' as it were, misled them, as I'm sure you know, but I want anyone else reading to understand that LEGO was displeased by that whole situation. Geez, you'd think I wanted a job at LEGO legal. *wacko* On the other hand I wouldn't have had the same problem with a prison MOC having a well done execution chamber - see the difference ? Sure its slight but its real ;-) Or if someone built the Munster's house and included Grandpa sitting in his favourite chair playing checkers. That wouldn't be so bad in the appropriate setting. That's the word we're looking for ... appropriate. *y* Quote
xwingyoda Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 Geez, you'd think I wanted a job at LEGO legal. *wacko* Oh boy I tried !! *yoda* Quote
Athos Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 I don't think its nearly as bad as everyone is making it out to be. The swastika is a little out there, but it is true that ol' Charlie has one on his forehead. Is this really any worse than any number of beheading scenes we see all the time as Castle MOCs? Steve Quote
Kahgarak Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 Hehehe, did anyone notice that in the MF pics, there is a dotted line going from the large fig's head to the building instruction fig's neck? 8- Quote
Joebot Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 Is this really any worse than any number of beheading scenes we see all the time as Castle MOCs?Steve It's all in the context. Scenes of violence in Castle MOCs are usually intended as fantasy. This electric chair MOC is perhaps intended as a political statement (I'm guessing). Creating a horrific and REAL instrument of death using a child's toy makes for a very disturbing juxtaposition. I make no claims to knowing what the builder's intended message is, but my personal interpretation is that he's speaking out against the unquestioning acceptance many Americans have regarding capital punishment. Perhaps he's saying that Americans have become so familiar and so comfortable with the death penalty that we're now making toys out of it. Whether or not you agree with that message is a whole 'nother can of worms .... Quote
Asuka Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 Using unusual materials to create controversial context is an ordinary modus operandi of modern art. What art is and what it tries to say is a very complex discussion and a very subjective one too.... Quote
Scouty Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 :-D HA :-D ! 2000 volts. ______ I'm not sure if I should comment or criticise 8-| ? Quote
xwingyoda Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 Like I said its all in the context ;-) For instance I think that plague MOC is really well done and interesting ;-) *yoda* Quote
Batbrick Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 (edited) Well I think its quite good, but the almost childish inclusion of "Build your own electric chair for serial killers kids!" and of course characters bring it down. There are however some great mocs based on horrible events that shouldn't really be frown upon. One such incident was Yoda's example, another was the controversial 9/11 attacks in lego. These things are MEANT to shock us, just as the real event does. Batbrick Away! >:-) Edited February 9, 2008 by Batbrick Quote
Lt. Veers Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 Geez, the things people will do with LEGO. Quote
captaintau Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 These things are MEANT to shock us, The electric chair will certainly shock you. :-D Quote
maiq the liar Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 Eh, it's a joke... *Note: M'aiq won't say wether or not he endorses electrocution >:-) **I WAS JOKING, JEBUS CRIPES! Quote

On the other hand I wouldn't have had the same problem with a prison MOC having a well done execution chamber - see the difference ? Sure its slight but its real ;-) Its the difference between promotion and showing what exists ;-) *yoda* Totally agree. I mean, it's one thing to make a historical MOC like the Black Plague one yoda posted, but this "shocking" MOC seems to have only two possible purposes: 1. As a big joke just for laughing at (which is not nice at all; serial killers and execution is nothing to laugh about). 2. As a political statement. I don't really have a problem with it, but if this is why he did this than he's still taking the actual political viewpoint way too far; just because many people believe in the death penalty doesn't mean that we all are desensitized to it. It's not like we in the USA and Europe are killing people for blasting another person's viewpoint (unlike in other countries: just in the Middle East, a man was sentenced to death for "insulting Islam," when he was just raising a good question). This to me is kinda in the same category as those Space Nazis and Bonktron MOCs a while back, which were trying to make jokes out of serious issues. |-/ Quote
Brickmaster Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 It seems to just be mostly satirical - Especially when he pokes fun at bionicle and says prisononicle. Seems to be just a sick joke, and left it to us to think of it whatever we want - The creator was probably expecting people to throw tantrums and how aweful this is :-$ That's what always happens, and it can lead to greater arguments over political matters, censorship, and more *wacko* Quote
