BrickbyBrickTechnic Posted June 28, 2017 Posted June 28, 2017 Hello everyone, I have recently picked up a 42054. Immediately I noticed the insane amount of backlash and resistance in the steering system. Here's how I fixed it: 1: Finding the problem: The problem was one of these: It was adding lots of friction which caused the grand majority of the backlash. It is added in this step (step 57 substep 2): 2. Replacing the piece. This was relatively simple, I replaced it with one of these: I had to hold the other piece in before placing it into the assembly, but it was totally worth it. There is little to no backlash and resistance. So, that's it! Thanks for reading! BrickbyBrickTechnic Quote
Aventador2004 Posted June 28, 2017 Posted June 28, 2017 No, sadly this does not work, it needs to swivel where it goes. The "fix" does not work, instead, it stalls the steering. Check the original please, it will show it stalls the steering. Quote
Saberwing40k Posted June 28, 2017 Posted June 28, 2017 But it does swivel, I can see exactly what BrickbyBrick did, and it would work. Quote

Don't know why it wouldn't swivel....axle part is through pinhole not axle hole Quote

liquidcross Posted March 25, 2020 Posted March 25, 2020 I just built the 42054, and wondered about that stiff steering. Now I can potentially fix it! I'm just not looking forward to ripping the thing apart. ;) Quote
skaah Posted September 24, 2022 Posted September 24, 2022 Unfortunately the pictures are gone, but this part is in step 57 on page 33 of the instructions. Quote
