take a look on pictures and calculate by counting studs. then you'll get confirmation that they are the same width

  • Jim changed the title to [HELP] Is 8258 the same width as 42043?

What other truck models are 17 studs wide?

EDIT:

LEGO models and MOCs

We were talking (actually writing) about sets 8258 and 42043 - this two trucks (when we count studs on cab, tires are typical LEGO "problem" - always a bit wider than cab). 8285 set is US style tow truck with 19 studs width, but this is another story...

I am just trying to get ideas of how I can modify a 19 wide or 17 wide chassis.  And using these 2 LEGO models is a way I can go about doing this

Why everyone says 17 studs? Both chassis  are 19 studs wide, only the cabs are 17 wide

But in reality cab + mudguards are giving overall width and chassis width is the same or less wide that mudguards e.g. real Arocs is some 2.5m wide and cab width is 2.3 to 2.5m wide .

You understand why we say 17 studs - which is actualy width of mudguards.

Maybe the cab on the arocs has a bandwith between 2.5m and 2.3m but the chassis has every time the same width. Is the cab more narrow, the mudguard is wider.  So the chassis is the benchmark.

@efferman that is correct, only on real truck outriggers do not stick out of chassis - that is a confusion point...Problem with LEGO Arocs is that mudguards are more narrow than chassis...

Sorry for (to)late reply
