I recenty purchased set 8115 Dark Panther of the Exo-Force line. The details are supurb, and it has a heafty 244 piece count. But once the set was built, it was like a statue. The head has no movement, and the elbows and knees are stiff, making it a hard one to pose. I love the set; it has rich detail! But what's the point of detail if you can't show it off in a cool pose?

So my question: Should posability be sacrificed for detail?

Why must detail be sacrificed? Some great sets have got amazing detail and superb poseability. Minor changes make a great difference.

Well it really depends on the line. if its something like Star Wars then its detail over playability. Since we are talking about Exo-force IMO it depends on the set. Look at it like this; would you want detail or playbility in the Fortress? Since it is just a fortress it doesnt move making detail win. Now the mechs are designed to move quick and defend the humans/robots/their masters. Would you rather have a coffee machene in our mech and die in the battle or would you sacrafice that coffee to actually survive?

All in all:

Mechs: Playability wins.

Places: Detail wins.

Hope this is helpful. :-)

With afew simple joint adjustments a great exo force model can become even better, In my opinion, detail and playability should intertwine. You don't have to sacrifice one for the other, in my opinion.

Whether it be places, or machines, detail and movement are important.

Like the majour problem I saw with dark panther was the knees. They donnot bend - substitute some extra galidor ball joints from other mechs in place of the technic prong joint and itll pose like a charm ;-)

Hope that's some help.

Sorry to interupt, but there was a click system developed a bit earlier. Remember the hip joints from the

original Makuta figure from Bionicle? ;-)

Those were the very early on systems :-D But yes, in the galidor era, they were just more dependant upon and finalized, into the ones we recognize today :-) The first resemblance of it was in makuta, and the exo skeleten sets (and some others, you get the drift) ;-)

The original mecha ball/click joints were developed from galidor ;-) So, I call them galidor joints.

OOOOOH. i thought you meant cutting off the click parts off the Galidor pieces and gluing them on the mech. :-$

I also agree there are sets that have the detail and the posability (Battle Arachnoid!)

And I know I can modify the set (already did!)

But I feel the set designers should make those ajustments BEFORE they release the set. Surely they saw the problem; it's quite obvious!

Ah, well. I guess they can only have so many pieces in a $15 set... 244 pcs is already pushing their standards (though I'm not complaining :-).)

I guess they should really have more posability, since posability = playability, and we all know TLC's big on that. But as PSPguy said, for buildings and such, since they can't really be posed, detail would be what TLC should be going for. And for mechs, posability, as that's what will endure the most 'playing'. I got Battle Arachnoid, and I'm very happy about it as it has both playability, er, I mean posability and detail. But Kynok already said that. :-/

I thought the first (good) Lego click joints debuted in the Technic Super Battledroid set.

Meh... maybe my chronological memory is failing me.

I'm guessing that Exo Force mechs probably start out nice n' detailed n' poseable on the design room tables, but get cut down like a tree when the guys in the budget department get done with it.

And let me think that story's real, for if it turns out it isn't:

A. The set designers blow.

B. They purposely make things just a little bit crappy so you need to buy Bionicle sets for their super-posing joints to customize them into normalcy.
