WesternOutlaw Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 I was building my entry for the EB Neighborhood Contest (Contest Entry), and I was trying to figure out how to build a Turkish/Moroccan Fez (the straight hat sometimes with a tassle). I tried a few pieces and couldn't get anything to work (tried a round 1x1, 1x1 cone, and the trunk piece of a palm tree so far). Any suggestions? Quote
MagPiesRUs Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 Yes, I've tried to make one too. The best ideas I came up with were the 1x1 round piece and a ball joint piece. I'm sure TLC will make one soon though, with Indiana Jones coming out (for Sallah and the Brotherhood of the Cruciform Sword minifigs) Quote
Captain Ka-Boom Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 Maybe ask Mr Fez (Phes). One thing is you might need to go custom. Heres another try. With a plume might look like a black Fez hmmmmmmm... Quote
MagPiesRUs Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 You want to buy camel sir? Wow, great idea Mr Tiber, looks very similar *y* Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted January 20, 2008 Author Posted January 20, 2008 I think the tires look good, but more like a Russian fur hat. I'd buy a camel off the guy with the car shifter on his head. That looks pretty good. Some great ideas! Quote
SlyOwl Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 (edited) You could try using the smooth/slick tyres and having a small black twisted elastic band coming down the back, secured under the bottom tyre for the tassel... :-) Or an upside-down open-handled cup on the head stud... Col. Whipstick Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 I give you 50 dalari for your camel effendi! :-D That fez looks cool Mr. Tiber. What about a shako with the peak and the plume filed off, painted red and with the string fitted to a small drilled hole inside. Yeah I know it sounds like a lot of work and it would mean wasting a shako but perhaps it was an imitational one no one would miss it. :-P Quote

If this is the piece you are referring to: Quote
Norro Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 You want to buy camel sir? Great work Mr T... No camel required currently... God Bless, Nathan Quote
oo7 Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 Maybe ask Mr Fez (Phes). One thing is you might need to go custom. Heres another try. Ooh, nice photograph there! However, that's more of a Napoleonic busby. I've found that the best solution for a Turkish/Ottoman/Arabian cap is something like this plus something like this as demonstrated by Tim Gould here: Quote
Captain Ka-Boom Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 That looks great oo7. Not sure about that camel. 8- Quote
iamded Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 There are some great suggestions here. The most accurate looking IMO is Mr Tiber's one. Great job! :-D *y* ~Peace Quote
Shadows Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 ... as demonstrated by Tim Gould here: I don't know what that kind of hat is really called, but it looks very good. I'm stealing that idea to put in my big file of things I might need one day. *y* Quote
Captain Ka-Boom Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 I now know what i was going to use for a Fez a red cup With handle sanded off. Drilled hole and black string coming out of the top. That cup. Might get a finsihed picture tommorow. Quote
Manta Posted September 13, 2008 Posted September 13, 2008 I think that a red cap, file the edges off so it's more like a fez, and possibly glue a plume on it. Quote
Barbaros Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 (edited) Hey Brickster where you able to re-create the fez or as they also call it tarboosh yet? Would love to see how it came out and how where you able to assemble it? With regards to the pic you had displayed early on in your thread the fez itself looks fine however the tail that comes out of it is way too long, it kind of gives it more of a freemason fez look than a Turkish/Egyptian/Morroccan one... Anyways here are some images of various well known Turkish personalities that wore the fez, it might help to inspire others, you never know... Edited November 3, 2008 by Barbaros Quote
