jotta93 Posted January 4, 2017 Posted January 4, 2017 Hi guys! I’m not sure this is the right place to post but here it goes. I’ve recently been offered the opportunity to buy either 42009 for 150€ or 8043 for 175€, both in their original polybags. I’ve missed these two sets because of my dark age. I’m not really into RC sets, 8043 would be my first one. But on the other hand it’s such a great and awesome set. But I also love cranes and 42009 is a must-have on my wishlist. I should mention that I already have 8421, 8053, 8294 and 42053 in my collection. Which set do you guys think I should get? Thanks in advance and a great 2017 to everyone! Quote
Saberwing40k Posted January 4, 2017 Posted January 4, 2017 Since you already have 8421, I'd say get 8043.You will not regret it. I'd say hold off on 42009. It's bigger than 8421, but it doesn't do a whole lot more. Quote
m3eu Posted January 4, 2017 Posted January 4, 2017 +1 for 8043. Challenging build and great playability. Quote
DrJB Posted January 4, 2017 Posted January 4, 2017 Go for 8043, without any doubt. That set is slowly becoming rare (and expensive). Plus, the number of functions (playability) are second to none (well, except 8455). Quote
schraubedrin Posted January 4, 2017 Posted January 4, 2017 I'd also take 8043, it has good playability and modability. personally, i liked the build of 8043 more than 42009. Quote
Ngoc Nguyen Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 (edited) 8043 has a lot more playability than 42009. For 42009, the A model you can only deploy outriggers, raise crane, then it's over. Only B model has some playability. While 8043 A model allows a lot more maneuver, and B model is essentially a RC tracked racer (42065) with a bucket. I have both of them so I think I can give some input here. Edited January 5, 2017 by nguyengiangoc Quote
Richard Dower Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 I would build the B model of 8043 first, i bet you will like at alot :-) Quote
WvG_853 Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 I would go as well for the 8043, it is getting very expensive. Good deals on the 42009 can be found more easily. Quote
Appie Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 While I appreciate the 42009, it doesn't even come close to the awesome-ness that is the 8043. The amount of ingenuity in that model is of another level. And as pointed out, great playability. Get it. Quote
jotta93 Posted January 5, 2017 Author Posted January 5, 2017 Thanks everyone! 8043 it is then. I didn’t know that it was that good but now I can’t wait to assemble it and find out Quote
dr_spock Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 8043 for sure. Be sure yours came with the newer Linear Actuators. I recall there was some problems with them in the early 8043 set production run. Quote
Samer Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 I got your interest in 42009. Its more interesting and challenging build for the deep Technic fan. But if I were you and having all the sets you mentioned I'd check Rebrickable.com for the parts I miss from 42009 if I buy 8043 and get them along with the instructions and stickers from Bricklink. I did that myself ( collect missing parts of 42009 from BL) and now almost done. One tough part to get is 5x16L axle. For that I bought 3x32L axles and will cut them in half. Quote

Neither the 8043 nor the 42009 uses the 16L axles ... I'm confused :( Quote

jotta93 Posted January 30, 2017 Author Posted January 30, 2017 Sadly guys, it turns out both sets were fake. They were both fake Lepin sets imported from China, that's why the advert only showed the polybags with pieces inside. Luckily I asked for pictures and was able to compare them to online reviews of both the original and fake sets. So I didn't spend any money, only a few hours of my time. But thanks for all the help anyway! Quote
pyro690 Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 Sorry about your luck. I got a 8043 off ebay that was 'missing pieces' for $250 USD, was only missing 10 common pieces that are still in production. Keep looking, the 8043 is a great build and play set! Quote
nerdsforprez Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 Good warning to those out there trying to get an incredible deal. Always ask for pics Quote
