My local pharmacy chain was trying to clear out their stock of series 4 Mixels and was offering them for 50% off. I picked up a second set of Rockits and Glowkies since they have so many nice bits in lime green and dark blue. It got me to wondering: what sets have such a nice assortment of pieces that you've bought two or more copies to use as parts packs?

With in the past year I can admittedly say I got at least 3 Nexo Knights 70310 Knighton Battle Blaster and sometimes think of getting more on sale. Great for building up some forces, I like those wheels, plus the windscreen it has in trans neon orange as well as those axe heads that the only other way of getting them is with sets that have Axl.

I have loads of CMFs in multiples for the parts. I haven't counted them but probably in the region of 100 to 200 spare CMFs right back to Series 1. I also have lots of multiples of some polybags.

Of larger sets, I bought two of 9471 Uruk-Hai Army. I modded the tower to more than double its original height. I also have two of 70221 Flinx's Ultimate Phoenix just because I like it so much (and because the second one was on sale). I modded the first one for my display collection but still haven't decided what to do with the second.

I've got three each of the little Creator Minis wot came in canisters*; it's nice to be able to build all three models at once. I wanted to do something similar with the Tiny Turbos for the combination models, but couldn't actually be arsed after taking so much time and cash just to complete the collection.

* Oh and the duplicated parts for each set can all fit in just one canister for that set, which is pretty great

I sometimes buy technic sets twice if I like the B model. The great vehicles sets in the City lineup also usually provide sets worth buying multiplie times, they tend to be good value for money, and have the ability to be MOD easily,

My record is 4916 x8 when they were discounted in a supermarket (at 1€!) several years ago :D

5550 x7 because I found these for cheap on Ebay in the last few years, I really like that model, and it was fun to make color variations

7998 x4 because I found a few for cheap back then (kept one without the trailer, the rest was for parts, still have to find a use of these big green containers)

3180 x3 for parts to make tanker wagons (kept one as truck)

4866 x2 just for dark purple parts

Sometimes I buy a second of a bigger one like the Haunted House for sand green (and other useful grey parts) or the Town Hall for the dark orange when it was discounted on Amazon, as these parts weren't easy to find elsewhere (and I keep the first one of each because I like the set).

On the subject "so nice you bought them twice", I would also mention the Maersk train: I really liked the set so I bought a second one just for having more cargo wagons (and the parts of the train engine were still useful for other uses).

Medieval Market Village, and numerous polybags that were priced to move. Also the Creator Log Cabin (at half price it was a great parts pack for brown and tan), and of course a few select CMFs.

Speaking of trains, I bought two copies of the Horizon Express train.  Not because so nice but LEGO only sold half a train in the set.  :pir-oh3:

Star Wars Battlepacks. LotR/ Hobbit Army builders. The rare set that so catches my fancy that I want to keep one sealed. So far that has been limited to the Alien Conquest EDF HQ, which I got three for MOC'ing, Jabba's Palace, which we know will never get a re-issue after jihad threats, The Hobbit Unexpected Gathering, and Benny's Spaceship Spaceship Spaceship.

Well most of extra set are in the battle pack catagory. I ended up getting three of 5618 Troll Warrior, 8396 Soldier's Arsenal & 8014 Clone Walker Battle Pack.

And then their is the sets I just got double of: 5612 Police Officer, 5615 The Knight, 6239 Cannon Battle, 7090 Crossbow Attack, 7595 Army Men on Patrol, 7667 Imperial Dropship, 7953 Court Jester, 8073 Manta Warrior, 8084 Snowtrooper Battle Pack, 8401 City Minifigure Collection, 70126 Crocodile Legend Beast & 70230 Ice Bear Tribe Pack.

I know I bought doubles of one or two sets when one went on clearance, but it wasn't memorable?  I also bought about four of 8777: Vladek Encounter. Horses for £3 a pop at Tesco a loong time ago.

Otherwise, it is hard to keep track of doubles. I get Mixels on deals/clearance. I get minifigures for parts. Everything is there to build up the collection. If it has a good colour/parts selection then I am tempted once it drops below £5.

Indeed, that one is a normal double-buy :)

AAAAA I forgot I bought two 42050 Drag Racers also

Not just for the obvious "having 4 Tumbler tyres", but also to get a load more black Technic panels.

There are other sets where I ended up with duplicates, not because I made any effort to get them, but because they were buried among some job lots: 8420 and 42007.

Outside of CMFs, I have 3 of Uruk Hai Army for army building and general piece use. And then I did buy two of the 2010 Hogwarts castle, but only because I wanted to expand it and didn't know about bricklink yet. I found a good price on a second copy on ebay at the time, so went for it. Looking back, I probably would have tried using bricklink had I known about it, but this way I have 2 of all of the figures I guess.

When I built MMV, it was the nicest set I'd ever built up to that point, and being able to add more homes to your medieval village doesn't hurt... so yes, it was probably the first set I bought more than one of.

Great idea... one that I missed.  I bought several Emerald Knights, though... extra cars, did a "red" conversion on one (a better Hogwart's Express than TLG ever released).

CMFs, of course, like most people - also multiple Uruk Hai armies and a lot of battle packs, including castle, fantasy era trolls, SW battle packs, and several of the three-in-one creator sets.
