Okay guys, despite the poor reception initially I've gone ahead with completing the first batch of minifig maps. These are a simple variation on the traditional lego pirate map seen in so many sets. I have chosen 12 different territories and provided 4 options for each so choose what you fancy.

Of the 12 regions it was extremely difficult to render maps into so small an area with a program like MSPaint and still have the image clear so obviously artistic license has been used. I've tried to highlight colonial areas in particular and regions heavily affected by our era. 'Western Hempishere' and 'Eastern Hemisphere' have been designed that you can put these together for a map of the world. I may in time consider options for making larger maps that join together but for now let me take care of these first. These are just the standard maps however I will now get to work on colour coded versions of these to highlight colonial territory of Specific nationalities etc so stay tuned for Spanish territory - coming soon!

these are great! I may have to print some, by the way I remember you saying about a wall chart type thing, how is that coming along (if it is at all)?

Haven't gone any further than the idea, will see what the demand is like, these maps don't seem very popular as an idea.

I would love one to put in my ship. Another thread is wanting to decorate his cabin ask him.

To help you in your plight I've created a Maps Page in the Customs Section of Classic-Pirates.com. There's no content as yet, but at least you can be assured your efforts will not be wasted:

http://www.classic-pirates.com/customs/maps/

Thanks Mr Phes! The new format of the classic-pirates.com page is looking really good, really captures the lego feeling. Do you think it's worth running these maps through Illustrator to smooth the pixelations we see or would it just make the maps all blurry because we're using such a small scale.

Greta maps Col. Whipstick, better than thew ones I am making at the moment!!

And thank you Mister Phes for making the maps page.

I think the size of the maps may be a good reason why they aren't so popular, larger ones would be able to show more detail. Then again most people's MOC's are very generic and because they aren't trying to highlight a specific place, time or group most of this customised stuff is a bit of a waste. :-/

Thank you! I really like these, and I'm not at all the 'custom' type, but I expect to print a few for specific situations and appreciate having them.

Great job! *y*

I'm not quite sure. There's dozens of different settings to play around with in the Live Trace to get them look just right. I suppose there's always the option of manually adjusting them as well.

If I wasn't so busy getting the website ready I'd do it myself. I suppose I'll have to have a "vectorisation" day sometime in the future and smooth out the jaggies in all the flags and maps.

You're getting a good response in this thread. Perhaps your timing wasn't ideal when you posted the previous one - people just weren't into maps back then. X-D

Back then? You mean in the days of Yorr? X-D

Yes I remember last weekend, back when we used to have square wheels and ate all our meat raw.

It would be much appreciated if you could sort out the flags for me Mr Phes as I won't have a PC capable of running Illustrator and other applications for some time yet.

I have time to type a proper response now; I was in a rush earlier.

I am currently working on a map of Europe, circa. 1700, complete with territories so I will post these soon. As for your maps Col. Whipstick, I think they are very good, I did not realize you were going to make so many. I especially like your maps of Western Europe. I think your British Isles look a bit distorted, mind you mine do too!

Keep up the good work. *y*

These are some really great maps! I love the way you've captured the look and feel of the LEGO treasure maps. I remember spending hours looking for my first Pirate treasure map after I'd lost it... :)

Wow...these look EXCELLENT! I've always loved the maps and wanted more (seems a bit of a joke that my navigator's got five of the same one, after all). Just a quick question...what size do the maps need to be (centimeters/inches) to fit the standard 2x2 smooth plate?

These are fantastic! I especially love the "classic" style maps. The east and west that join together look great. I can hardly wait to see how they print. I may have to go buy some water-slide decal paper for my printer!

It's supposed to be around 1.5 cm/15 mm on each side... 2.2 cm/22 mm at maximum diameter but given MSPaint was designed by Microsoft and Americans don't know what the hell a millimetre or centimetre looks like their version of 1.5 cm doesn't come out anything like the 1.5 cm in the Metric measurement world. :-D

I'm curious to see as I'm able to print these myself but I feel they may look too pixelated until either myself or someone else gets around to formatting the pixels on the maps and flags.

The maps are great.

I was wondering though, are there any plans to create larger maps say 4X4 or even 6X6?

*sweet* Yep, I've said as much earlier in the thread. Just keep popping in, they will come sometime soon.

they require pasting into MS word and then printing to fit.

They don't print straight from MSPaint after all that measuring? :-/ Phessy has offered to run them through Illustrator when he gets a chance, would love to see the maps and the flags nice and smooth when printed out and stuck down onto hard plastic.
