Gunman Posted November 25, 2016 Posted November 25, 2016 Heeeyy there guys :) Its been a long time since I last posted a moc. Finally I found some time to photograph my last one which is part of a larger project called "Kastra of Thessaloniki". Its my AoM Gatehouse phase 3 also (wont post it in AoM thread yet, because I just realised I havent made phase 2 gatehouse) and an addition to HSS Military. Euosmos city, aswell as other regions around, are surrounded by thick stone walls, made by Mitgardian dwarf experts. At past , these walls played a crucial role for the defense of Thessaloniki and all the cities inside it, against enemy hordes. Nowadays Mitgardian crafters and builders are doing casual maintenance at walls in order to keep them in perfect condition and ready for any upcoming danger. When I have access to my bricks again, I may work the top of the "boats" and the folliage at green side, but thats how it is atm :) CC welcome Quote
Kai NRG Posted November 25, 2016 Posted November 25, 2016 Those boat roofs are definite eye-catchers! They may be a little too obviously boats though; so if you get a chance to add something to them I imagine that would help; but even as is it does give a nice arch to the entry. I love the curve you've given the towers! It has a slightly cartoonish vibe that I find really neat. The texture is great also and good work with the two different kinds of slits in the wall - the diamond shaped ones in particular look great! Quote
Garmadon Posted November 26, 2016 Posted November 26, 2016 That's some Gunman NPU there alright! Excellent and very solid looking gatehouse, Gunman, and those pillars in front are really neat! I agree with Kai that the boat hulls are nice but could use a little more finish, so looking forward to what you do with that! The slopes on the corners and the arrow slits are great, and the portcullis finishes the build off very well! And great to see you back building in Mitgardia! Quote
Mpyromaxos Posted November 26, 2016 Posted November 26, 2016 Great creation with brilliant imagination and usage of bricks! Trully unique! I am waiting to see the rest parts of the castle combined in a big representation! Quote
Blufiji Posted November 26, 2016 Posted November 26, 2016 You really have a way of getting the bext out of the prefab boat pieces. The gatehouse walling and texturing is very nicely done. Quote
Henjin_Quilones Posted November 26, 2016 Posted November 26, 2016 This looks excellent, Gunman! Ordinarily I dislike so many different textures in a wall, but on yours it works very well; this is probably due to there being a large section of wall and the complete absence of non-textured bricks, as well as the nice contrast it provides with the large smooth grey pieces on the front towers. I love the way the top section over the gate is inverted (studs down) and the look that allows. It being Mitgardia, ships on top of walls does not strike me as being especially odd (perhaps they were captured in a battle and are a trophy of sorts) but I will agree with Kai and Garm that there should be some sort of finishing on the tops (bottoms?) to hide the hollow cavity. Another area for improvement is tiling the interior floors to hide the studs, as well as adding some more interior detailing. The studs work fine as dirt/grass, but the wood floors would look better smooth. It does not look bad now, but it would look better with them tiled. Those are minor nitpicks, however, in what is a fantastic build. I still cannot get over how much I enjoy the contrast of textures and arrangement of the parts on the front. The base ties it all together splendidly, presenting a great build. Well done! By the way, what piece did you use for the arrow slits in the textured part of the wall? I do not recognize the shape of the hole from anything I have... Quote

Legofin2012 Posted November 26, 2016 Posted November 26, 2016 A very interesting build, and excellent evolution from phase I remaining in the state style, it'll be interesting to see phase II in between! The texturing on the walls is very well done too, especially on the "towers" either side of the gate. Another thing I like is the difference between the "outside"'with a desert looking land, and the inside the walls, looking more lush and green. Great build! Quote

soccerkid6 Posted November 26, 2016 Posted November 26, 2016 Gunman is back And even better, with a Mitgardian build and a large project in the works! The stone work using those large roof panels is quite clever, and you have some really neat windows on display Have to mention that boat roof as well, typical Gunman innovation! Quote
TitusV Posted November 26, 2016 Posted November 26, 2016 Though that wall is awesome, I have to say I'm not absolutely sold on the ships. Sure, the shape is great, but their bottoms look so plain compared to the gatehouse. Still, great job Quote
Leonardo da Bricki Posted November 26, 2016 Posted November 26, 2016 The boat hulls make a nice curve for the roof, but add something to the top to fill it in. The hinge bases make excellent arrow slits, very nice parts use! Quote

Forgot to mention, I didnt tile the floors, because the whole thing is part of a bigger project, and I dont have the pieces to beautifuly tile the interior, so I prefer leave it blank. 2 hours ago, TitusV said: Though that wall is awesome, I have to say I'm not absolutely sold on the ships. Ecclesiastes Posted November 27, 2016 Posted November 27, 2016 Awesome stonework, the towers have some sort of dwarvish feeling. Not sure about the boats though, but like you've said some foliage on top might to it justice! Quote
dathil Posted November 28, 2016 Posted November 28, 2016 awesome stonework indeed, and the boats give a great wooden top on it. I really like the stone details! I just miss some kind of pathway in the terrain I think Quote
MassEditor Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 When Gunman comes back, he comes back in style! Stupendous build, the gatehouse and adjoining wall cuts a fearsome profile! The stonework is unique and looks great. And, of course, typical Gunman NPU on display here. I doubt I'll ever stop being amazed by the uses you find for some pieces! Quote
