luukietechnic Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 (edited) Helly everybody, Here is my discussion topic for the TC10 contest. I have made a Heavy Lift Telehandler. I almost finished the model, but I will show the progress in steps. In this first post I will show you the chassis of the model. On this photo you can see the chassis with a box where the boom is going to twist. There are also two big v2 pneumatic cylinders to lift the boom. On the second photo you can see how I made the motor with a pneumatic pump. It was hard to fit both the motor and the pump horizontaly . If you have any tips or questions please post them here. This is the first time I'm making photos in this way, so if they are not so good give me some tips how I can improve the quality. I will soon give you an update of my build. ps: the stickers on the rear 7 beams are there because I haven't enough of these beams at the moment. Later you won't see these any more, because the boom is in there. Edited October 18, 2016 by luukietechnic Quote

schraubedrin Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 This looks awesomely small, do you plan to fit the battery box on the vehicle? Quote
Rishab N Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 Great work so far. Looking forward to more progress Quote

Yes it is small, and I can tell you that I had many problems with the battery box. Because of that I am going to use a train battery box. 7 hours ago, Rishab N said: Great work so far. luukietechnic Posted October 19, 2016 Author Posted October 19, 2016 Hello, Here is the second update on the Heavy Lift Telehandler. Now I want you to show the boom with its functions. On the picture you can see the two parts of the boom. The boom can be extent by turning the gears on the sides. This axle is also the hinge of the boom. The inner boom has one pneumatic function, and there are tubes for an moving attachment. The function of the boom is tilting. When you have any tips or questions please let me now. The next update will be about the controlpanel. Quote
Paul Klop Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 Very cool! I also see that you have build a chassis for the telehandeler. Looks very nice. Also nice that you say where the next update is about. Quote

luukietechnic Posted October 20, 2016 Author Posted October 20, 2016 Hello everybody, Here is my third update on the Heavy Lift Telehandler. Today I want to show you the controlpanel. This part contains a small battery box and four pneumatic switches. This part is mounted to the chassis by plate that goes under the chassis. There are also some pieces on the side of the box that grabs the top side of the chassis. There is also a on/off switch that pushes the green button on the battery pack. On this picture you can see the whole model so far. The square 'box' is looking wrong, but with the wheels and the mudguards on, this is looking allright. If you have any questions or tips let me now. I'm still busy with the pneumatic wires. I only have to do the ones in the boom, but this is very hard because the boom has to extend. Quote
Paul Klop Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 (edited) Very nice update! Can you post a photo in the next update with the wheels? Edited October 20, 2016 by Paul Klop Quote
schraubedrin Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 This project looks promising. I like that you included pneumatic connection points at the end. Am i seeing it correctly, that you're not using LEGO System parts, not even at the battery box? Maybe some kind of cable carrier for the tubing?http://www.alterous.com/products/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/mini0180_20_1.jpg Quote

Maybe I am going to make another attachment after the competition. I used only system parts in the anchorage of the boom. There are used some slopes. The battery box was very easy to fit without system parts. The cable carrier is a very good idea, but I think that something like that is going to be very big. Especially when you consider that there are four pneumatic tubes in the boom. Quote
Leonardo da Bricki Posted October 21, 2016 Posted October 21, 2016 Looks great. I wish I had seen this before I began attempting to complete one I had started long ago for this contest... I was planning to begin this weekend. Quote
agrof Posted October 21, 2016 Posted October 21, 2016 Very promising and interesting entry, I love the clean and modular concept You delivered already. Quote
zweihander Posted October 21, 2016 Posted October 21, 2016 Looking really good, I fully agree with agrof on cleanness. Quote

Yeah that is not so nice. 4 hours ago, agrof said: Very promising and interesting entry, I love the clean and modular concept You delivered already. Thank you! I really wanted this modular build, because in this way you don't have to modify the whole model. 2 hours ago, erelender said: Looking really good, I fully agree with agrof on cleanness. Thanks! You made your telehandler also very clean! I saw yours when I had almost finished my model. I think mine looks the same as yours, except that yours is smaller and have more manual functions. With my boom problems I wish it was not a pneumatic contest but a other contest, so I could make these functions manual. I hope I will find a better way to work the tubes in the boom correctly! Thank you. In contrast, I wanted to make my boom functions (extension/angle adjustment) pneumatic, but the tubes created so much clutter at that scale since I had to route them outside the boom. But in your case I'm sure you can do it with the space larger boom gives.. Edited October 21, 2016 by erelender Quote

These are very rigid. Beside that the hoses cause a lot of resistance in the boom. Edited October 21, 2016 by luukietechnic Quote
luukietechnic Posted October 21, 2016 Author Posted October 21, 2016 And here is the fourth update of the Telehandler. As you see this part is the cabin. It's very simple and has a widely used design. There are some details like the lights, the flashlight, the steering wheel and the seat with armrests. The door can also be opened. The pneumatic function of the cabin is the tilting function. It is very simple but it works great. And this is how it is looking on the model. It is attached in the same way as the controlpanel. More photos of the working functions will come when the whole model is finished. Tomorrow I want to show you the finishing of the model. Quote
Paul Klop Posted October 21, 2016 Posted October 21, 2016 Very cool cabin. I hope that in the next update the model looks even more cooler! Quote
KikoTube Posted October 22, 2016 Posted October 22, 2016 Very clean build! Also like the colour sheme. :) Quote

Kmuffin Posted October 22, 2016 Posted October 22, 2016 The cabin's looks look great plus I like the orange and black color scheme Quote
