WesternOutlaw Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 I recently purchased 2159, the 9V Train Track Starter Collection from Lego SAH. The set was 1/2 off - a good price. I just received it yesterday to discover that the track is the new BLEY color. I was so disappointed, but wanted to warn those of you who may be considering buying it. I've purchased a number of individual box track yets (straight and curved) always in the old grey, but for whatever reason, this collection of track is the new grey. I'm guessing that Lego had an abundance of this new track and figured this was a good way to move it - probably why it's 1/2 off (at least in the US). If this is old info to some of you train colloectors, please disregard. I did a search and could not find that it was discussed. Watch out for 2159! X-O Quote
ExoBuilder Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 Well, I already ordered two of them, though they'll be my first track. *sweet* I hope they'll look good, if not, I blame you Brickster! *sing* ;-) Quote

I don't have an issue with the color itself, just the fact it doesn't match my existing track collection. Now if you want to buy straight track with the eight-piece box, it will probably be in the old grey. See my frustration? Quote
Matn Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 (edited) What is wrong with bley tracks? *wacko* *y* If they were half the price, be happy! If your train is riding on the track you just don't notice the bley track. Edited January 5, 2008 by Matn Quote

Like I said above, it's not the color itself, just the fact that it doesn't match. I notice. Quote
AgentRick Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 I got some switching track for Christmas, and they were bley :-X . I didn't really care about the difference, because if you look from a distance, there is no real difference. *sweet* Quote

Jones Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 I just bought boxes and boxes of straight track, switchers, curves, and the starter kit right after Christmas. I've only opened two boxes of straights so far but they were all bley too. I'm happy to have the track now at 50% off as opposed to a year from now when it may be all gone and selling for 10x list on ebay, bricklink, either. Still, I also wish my track all matched. Quote
ExoBuilder Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 I just got my 2159. I'm going to have a fun time making some comics with these! :-D Quote
Hinckley Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 If you like the color matching or not, I suggest you grab the track now, because it'll be the last we'll see of the 9v track. I had some $10 switching track in my cart and by the time I went to checkout, it had all sold out... :'-( Quote

This is probably it before we see it on Ebay. Quote
El Bucanero Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 Damn, I already feared that.. :'-( But isn't it odd the OLD discontineued 9v system is made in the NEW bley?? Bley has to be new, so they have to have made some extra, while it's discontineued? *wacko* Odd.. Quote
Lord Of Pies Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 Luckily all of my track is pre-2003 so it is all one colour, but I have considered buying extra track, but I might not if it is a different colour. (Yes, I'm fussy like that! :-P ) Thanks for warning us. :-/ Quote

Bley has to be new, so they have to have made some extra, while it's discontineued? *wacko* Odd.. the bley was molded for hogwarts express which came out after the color change, but not before the end of 9V was decided/announced.if you check BL you can see all the 9V sets that include bley track. http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=2865 that is why i didn't order any of 2159 even though the price... BL told me not too ;-) - BM Quote
Brickadier General Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 (edited) The dark bley tracks have been around for awhile, at least since 2006. I know this because when I was doing the NMRA show and finished I ended up getting a few dark bley curves that i didn't originally have. I'm not all that bothered about it, and I don't think I'm going to go buy up all the 9V track I can get. I have enough track for one decent sized train to run around, which is pretty much all I'd be able to work with in the room where my lego stuff is. I'll just wait for power functions and see how that goes. With AFOLs working with Lego on it, I'm sure it will exceed our expectations. And besides, even when the 9V track is discontinued, it is still easier to come by than monorail track. You want to talk about high prices...long straight monorail track. You'd be hard pressed to find a substantial amount for less than $15 a piece. I'm just glad I got the airport shuttle and extra track kit when I was little. I seriously doubt 9V straight rails are going to hit $15 a piece for a long time. But really, I guess that all depends on when it is revealed what the power functions trains can/cannot do.
