jono rocky Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 G'day all. So last week I decided to enter the Lego Porsche contest with this idea of a dream Porsche car. In Australia we have a racing category called V8 Supercars and since I follow this series and a masive Holden fan I thought well Porsche should race a car as well and that became my dream Porsche, a Porsche V8 Supercar. The car will be made in 2 parts, chassis and body.Overall size when finished- 570mm x 230mm x 170mm. My aim was to create a realistic car with roll cage and stuff but to have the body separate so that I can create other car brands to go over the chassis since in the race series the run a control chassis. If there is time Ill add front and rear independent adjustable sway bars. The chassis functions are: 4 wheel Independent suspension. 4 wheel disk brakes that work through the brake peddle. camber and steering geometry. 4 spd sequential gearbox. working clutch through the clutch peddle. HOG steering with a moving steering wheel. air operated car jacks. fake V8. V8 Supercar Porsche by Jono Mckinlay, on Flickr Hopefully it will be finished in time for the comp. Quote
Victor Imaginator Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 Looks cool. I love engine details. Not a Porsche yet, but I will wait for final version, it should be nice MOC) Quote
Chade Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 Can't wait to see the end product of this model. Great idea making a V8 Supercar. Quote
Technic Jim Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 Looks good so far. One point though - isn't positive (or indeed negative) camber measured when looking from the side of the vehicle as opposed to the front? Quote
TheMindGarage Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 That roll-cage looks great! Can't wait for the finished car! Quote
Alex Ilea Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 i love the roll cage but you have negative camber Quote
rm8 Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 Awesome cage! it rocks! Do you plan to add body panels? Quote
Didumos69 Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 Great job with the functional peddles! Suspension also looks great although I prefer to see active camber with close to zero camber when the vehicle is not moving. Looks good so far. One point though - isn't positive (or indeed negative) camber measured when looking from the side of the vehicle as opposed to the front? No, caster angle can be observed when looking from the side. Camber - as correctly mentioned here - can be observed when looking from the front. Quote
TheMindGarage Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 i love the roll cage but you have negative camber So? The majority of road and race cars have slight negative camber. Positive camber is only really used on oval racing. Quote
MRP_ Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 looks absolutely beautiful! imho, it comes close to the level of madoca's old baja truck! awesome! Quote
Technic Jim Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 (edited) No, caster angle can be observed when looking from the side. Camber - as correctly mentioned here - can be observed when looking from the front. Ok, my bad. I'm one thing smarter now though! Edited July 26, 2016 by Technic Jim Quote
Lakop Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 I love the V8 Cars. This is great, I would buy such a model. Look forward to the body work. H Quote
jono rocky Posted July 26, 2016 Author Posted July 26, 2016 Thanks every one for your comments. Then panels will be on the body work it may take a bit as this is my first real car. Quote
AOW Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 On the first picture it looks like a new version of 8865 :) But my congratulations, your MOC is pretty nice/. Quote
Technic_Henry Posted July 28, 2016 Posted July 28, 2016 Maybe you can make a 928 body. The 928 had a v8 front engine. Quote
z3_2drive Posted July 30, 2016 Posted July 30, 2016 I'm a sucker for roll cages. Amazing work so far! Quote
jono rocky Posted July 31, 2016 Author Posted July 31, 2016 Here is the final car. In addition you can open the hood, boot and doors via lockable door handles and an adjustable rear spoiler. Forgot to mention that the chassis drivers side has an air line in ( like the real cars) for the car jacks with a switch for up and down. some pics and the video. Quote
Victor Imaginator Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 Cool body for cool chassis. Reminds me Skyline R34 a little. My chances of winning reduced again) Quote
Lipko Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 Looks cool but I'm not sure about the sedan form. The front doors are too narrow, I think a coupé form would suit it better. The rear part is beautiful by the way. Quote
jono rocky Posted July 31, 2016 Author Posted July 31, 2016 (edited) Thanks for everyones comments. Its a 4 door V8 sedan because that's the criteria of the racing category but yeah a coupe would of been easier to make. There is a link to the racing website on the first post.
