Corvus Posted December 31, 2007 Posted December 31, 2007 Okay, here we go! I received a Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi for christmas, and I've been dying to try it out. It's really complicated, so I'm still fine-tuning it. In other words, I have no idea what I'm doing with it. :-D I also went out and bought new lights today. One of my old bulbs shorted out, so I decided to completly revamp my photography efforts. I think its an improvement. The Mandalorian Defense Technologies Dropship, otherwise known as the MDT Blastboat: The Blastboat is a troop carrier designed to go in to a target fast, drop off the troops, and bug out even faster. As you can see, troops are exposed to enemy fire, and the only heavy armor is located at the bottom of the ship, to defend from small to medium arms fire. The Blastboat is vulnerable to attack from above, but it wasn't designed to dogfight, anyway. The rear of the ship is occupied by the two main engines and a rear-facing laser cannon. The main engines can swivel, allowing the ship to carry heavy loads if neccesary. The rear cannon was designed to fire in a continuous stream for a short period of time. When heading into enemy territory, the cannon can cause massive devastation behind it, clearing the way for ground troops. The gunner uses the camera to aim. I'm pretty proud of my troop bay. Forward is the gunner's station, where he operates the rear cannon and the top-mounted main cannon. Above is the cargo net, which holds a variety of items. The back of the bay boasts a medical station and stretcher. If a troop is injured, he can be treated with first aid while the gunship speeds toward the nearest field hospital. the Blastboat is powered by two experimental batteries, one for propulsion, and the other for the power-hungry weapons system. The battery is extremely powerful, but hated by mechanics the world over, because the time-honored method of "Give 'er a good kick and some duct tape" only succeeds in giving the mechanic glow-in-the-dark skin for a few years. If the ship is hit and forced to crash-land, the cockpit can detatch, and fly a limited distance to the nearest town for help. The troops. Yes, I know that they're Dino Attack, but they're cool :-P : The gunner (orange), the pilot (black) and their fearless leader, me. X-D Charge, men! Victory IS at hand! So, I was wrong! Don't shoot me! The bacta tank in use... The Blastboat has been discontinued for battlefield use, and is now popular in Special Ops squads for its speed and carrying capacity. BrickShelf Gallery (When public) Comments and constructive criticism appreciated. :-) Will Quote
Brickmaster Posted December 31, 2007 Posted December 31, 2007 The resemblance to 4794 is simply uncanny... ;-) Nice job however :-P Though as always I like to give critisizm; as I appreciate when people do to me. Other than it reminds me of one of my dropships I put on brickshelf with the open troop carrier and the overhead windsheilds ( :-$ ) I have to say there are afew colors mismatched.. ok, not that big of a deal. Other than that there are alot of 90 degree 'stops'. What I like to do is incorperate inverted peices, especially in this moc, by the ends of the troop bay. Rather than the opening being a cut out rectangle, it will look much smoother with the sloped peices making it a more rounded effect. I could say more but, I dont wants to overwhelm with critisizm :-$ Nice job Quote
ExoBuilder Posted December 31, 2007 Posted December 31, 2007 This is pure beauty Will! I love all of the detailing in it! *wub* I've been trying to build something that can hold troops like that but I constantly fail, you did a great job on this! Nice choice of figs BTW. *y* *y* Quote

I prefer the rectangle, it's a military craft, not art. :-P Thanks for the criticism. This is pure beauty Will! I love all of the detailing in it! *wub* I've been trying to build something that can hold troops like that but I constantly fail, you did a great job on this! Nice choice of figs BTW. *y* *y* Thanks, Exobuilder! If you're having problems, just MOD, like I do. I'm horrible at starting from scratch. This started out as re-building 4794, but then it mutated into this... Will Quote
Brickmaster Posted December 31, 2007 Posted December 31, 2007 Here is a picture of what I mean for making the rectangle abit more curved in nature, a small change really :-P This is also the dropship that I made which remindes me of this. Quote

Easy change. I was thinking of something a bit different... :-$ Well, I don't have any sets like this that I could MOD it from :-P :-/ What about your black Mars Mission set? That's a good candidate. Brickmaster Posted December 31, 2007 Posted December 31, 2007 If you want any inspiration help, Mr. Builder, than what I would suggest doing is concentraiting on the main purpose of your moc; in this case, it would be an open bay troop carrier like this? So what I did, is I would picture what I would want it to look like, and build the main function of the whole model before going onto the rest, make the troop bay how you like it before you decorate the rest of the ship. This is what Ive done for ALL my ship models. In my titan xp dropship Here I started with the bay door design, and added the rest of the ship to it. In my heavy APC I designed the front bay door, then added on the huge cargo bay and decorated the rest of it afterwards. Here In my Titan IFV Here I build the transforming wheel base, then moulded the top portion on after ;-) Build the main function first; if I wanted to build a huge death laser I probably wouldnt build the controls first; but the gun itself, or say a cargo hauler, I wouldnt build the cargo before the ship? :-D Sorry for kindof posting a totally unrelated topic in your post Mr. Mand :-$ If its a problem I can remove it. iamded Posted December 31, 2007 Posted December 31, 2007 A great ship, Mr Mandalorian! Some neat modifications make this look very cool, is it based on a 'real' Star Wars ship or is it purely from imagination? ~Peace Quote
zero1312 Posted December 31, 2007 Posted December 31, 2007 Now that's some cool work. KUTGW!!! *y* It would better in black though. ;-) Quote

Hinckley Posted January 1, 2008 Posted January 1, 2008 Your setup is excellent. The first thing I noticed was an improvement in photography. Your photography has always been good, but I can clearly see you took my advice. It looks very much like the pics I produce. Next, you'll find real expert advice and surpass my abilities and I can learn from you. Looks great. ;-) As for the MOC, itself, I like it a lot. I think you're one of those under-rated builders. I always like your stuff. This isn't my favorite, however. I do see the resemblance to a submarine. I have a couple of realism nitpicks like where are they dropping from if the troop assembly area isn't enclosed. They have to be dropping from somewhere inside the atmosphere, I assume. Has the walrus been by to talk to you about power sources, thrusters and pitch and yaw adjustment? I'll leave that for him. He's the self servicer female canine after all. But I do like the overall look of it. The industrial, bulky look is appropriate for what you describe it is used for. I like the rear laser cannon alot and the camera was a smarty addition! It is overall very well constructed and a smart build. I especially like the rear of the ship with the guns and the engines. Nice job. Thanks for sharing it with us. *sweet* Quote
iamded Posted January 1, 2008 Posted January 1, 2008 Thanks! Like Brickmaster said, it's a MOD. I know, I was wondering if you built this MOD based on a real Star Wars ship or not. :-$ ~Peace Quote

It'll take me a long time to figure out the camera to bring it to it's best potential, maybe I should take a class. :-/ I wanted to keep the small propellers on- big rotors are targets. After all, it's futuristic- there must be advanced metals, engines, and gears. Actually, I think this is one of my favorites, and I don't think the pics did it justice. I know, I was wondering if you built this MOD based on a real Star Wars ship or not. :-$ ~Peace I re-built the sub one day, and it just happened to turn into this. Completely imagination. I'm planning to do a comic about my comment on the batteries: The battery is extremely powerful, but hated by mechanics the world over, because the time-honored method of "Give 'er a good kick and some duct tape" only succeeds in giving the mechanic glow-in-the-dark skin for a few years. I think I'll call it "Hanger 42", featuring the adventures of two numbskulls working as mechanics... :-D Will Quote
Corvus Posted January 3, 2008 Author Posted January 3, 2008 Double post... :-$ I finished my comic, entitled "Hangar 42". If it turns out well, as I have some ideas, I'll continue it. It's something new to me, so I need to figure out a few things. Text, speech bubbles, (Anyone know how to make a proper speech bubble? :-D ) and adjusting text diagonally. Here we go. White hat is Bob, and red hat is Biff. Will Quote

Dino_Bot Posted January 3, 2008 Posted January 3, 2008 That boat is pretty cool! Loved the comic. Quote
Corvus Posted January 3, 2008 Author Posted January 3, 2008 Thanks, guys! Why is the topic suddenly in Space Docking bay? Did an Admin move it? Will Quote
Doctor Sinister Posted January 3, 2008 Posted January 3, 2008 I like this creation, especially the weapons and the cargo net. My only comment would be that the front doesn't seem to be very well attached to the back by way of the floor. I would suggest some reinforcement - just for appearances - would avoid it looking like it might rip in half in a steep turn or acceleration. Having said that, if you come back to me to confirm that the floor is indeed made of super-strong unobtanium, I'll shut up. :-D Nice MOC. Special Forces ON! Dr. S. Quote

Starwars4J Posted January 3, 2008 Posted January 3, 2008 Thanks, guys! Why is the topic suddenly in Space Docking bay? Did an Admin move it? Will Yup, it's in the Space Docking Bay since it's a ship and not a mecha :-P This is a great MOC here, though I agree that the insides should be a little more protected. I really like the net holding things in, in the main cabin, but I'd also like to see the floor made a bit thicker for both protection and structural integrity Great job *y* Quote
Dark Sword Ragnarok Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 Love the comic!X-D the fact that the man with duct-tape actually changed shape and sice, not just turned green is hilarious! :-D I loved the vikings chasing the workers around in the background! :-D :-D Two thumbs up! *y* *y* Quote
