Sven F Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 (edited) I just built this today, and as a vw beetle and bus owner and mechanic in real life I have to say the design of the bug is very accurate for the limitations. The way the side doors curve to the back, how the front mudguards start off thicker from the inside, the engine compared to the one in the campervan makes much more sense (white fan shroud, really?). It makes me wonder if the designer owned it or just studied it very well. I find all the glass stickers unnecessary, I didn't apply any of the blue transparent pillar sticks. The assortment of parts in dark azure is unusual for just a single set to be allowed so many new recolors. I might get another set just for parts to build some minifig scale vehicles with all those slopes. What i would have liked though is hubcaps in flat or pearl silver. Thanks for the review Edited September 25, 2016 by Sven F Quote
anothergol Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 (edited) Talking about parts, as I was building I found it weird to find old-style "thin" clips. Old stock? Would have been weird, even though we still find thin black clips in sets. But it started to make sense as I was assembling those 2 slopes. As a MOCer I've too used thin clips in places where there was no room for thick ones. Edited September 25, 2016 by anothergol Quote
J_C Posted October 7, 2016 Posted October 7, 2016 Look at this: http://brickhello.kinja.com/amazing-alternate-build-vw-beetle-to-caterham-1787518533 I think it is amazing Quote
BrickWild Posted October 9, 2016 Posted October 9, 2016 Here's a few LDD Mods... Without the roof rack, it looks totally sleek! A few colour variations. If we get more unique parts (e.g. half arches) in different colours, that would be possible! 10187's Colours! And here, it is seen towing my large-scale caravan! Quote
gotoAndLego Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 (edited) I have just finished bag 1 and I have to compliment the designers for a really cool set. There are lots of interesting techniques used here. Just wanted to add that while it probably doesn't matter that much, but for step 59 on page 38 I used 1x1 light bley plates to make that blue curved piece more stable. oli Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 I like that you too, chose to build the surfboard to what seems as "more correct" shape, and not what was shown. i guess, when i look at various types of boards, "correct" is merely perception. Has anyone else an opinion on the board shape with regard to top profile? Quote
Dragunov2 Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 I have both and I prefer the MINI, I even had to modify the beetle, cause the designer forgot to put the pedals in it!!! Quote
BrickWild Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 Anyone tried building it in Red? It's now possible due to the smooth curved pieces used in 10258 London Bus! Quote

I'm happy with the look and I think it sits well next to the camper. Reveal hidden contents https://flic.kr/s/aHskBfz4NZ But...sometimes it's more fun to think it up on your own. Which covers did u use for the wheels? Thanks! Quote
Dragunov2 Posted September 27, 2017 Posted September 27, 2017 (edited) Mine for the moment: Ordered some new tyres yesterday, so have to wait for those a couple of days Edited September 27, 2017 by Dragunov2 Quote
dokludi Posted March 23, 2019 Posted March 23, 2019 A little tuning. 10265 Mustang wheels and 42093 rubber. Narrow gauge and negative slope. Quote
Dragunov2 Posted March 23, 2019 Posted March 23, 2019 For the complete VW Beetle trash look? Somebody already tried to fit a rear view mirror inside the car? Quote
