I'm trying to make some mitre hats for my imperial soldiers, but am not quite sure how to make one without customising. Here's a mitre hat in case you don't know :-$ :

I've tried a few options, the one I like best so far is a 1x1 round stud with a hornless viking helmet on top. Here's a pic:

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

take a plastic cape (the older types like in castle) and put it upside down on the minifig head, and tighten it with a 1*1 plate.

or try a neck bracket or a beard...

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone :-)

I've done some more experimenting, and I like these two:

I like this one the most:

And thanks Sir Nadroj, here's a gold version:

Why are you resorting to Mitre hats TinyPies, because Shakos are getting so hard to come by?

Or do you just want to fully replicate those troops?

No, I just want them for grenadiers before the Napoleonic War. I'm interested in making some Pavlov grenadiers aswell.

I just tried some things, but I don

2. An old helmet

Version 2 looks ok to me.

Have you tried to use some black small 1x1 pieces inside. Smaller then the used head. Then you get the impression of a hat sitting correct on the head. From the back it should then also look correct.

But I would prefer to have a real custom one ...

I have found some in arealight's store at http://www.flickr.com/photos/arealight/. But not sure if these can be used for any of our troops?

Yeah i was thinking that too, cuz if it just sat like a little lower on the guys head it would look perfect, so all you would need is like 2x black round 1x1 pieces put them on the dudes head and it should look perfect.

I've checked it already and it works. To my knowledge mitras were mainly in silver and in gold. I think this head also exists in grey?

Frankly, I think that Mitre hats can only be made in clay, or another medium. Besides, if I ever use them, they will be smaller in number than regular troops. In my experience and reading, Mitres were worn mainly by grenadiers, or other smaller regiments.

I am really bored so took some pictures of what they actually look like:

With the Black Helmet

With the Grey Helmet

And here's how you make them higher, just with two round flat 1x1 pieces, Black first or Grey first so the colour matches the back of the Helmet

To be honest i think it looks almost perfect and if you really wanted them gold just spray paint them or something, it isn't much hassle.

I finally got around making a early 18th century English grenadier wich used the mitre hat. (based on a metal figure):

I used an upside down beard. (I asume with a halberd he is a NCO?)
