Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted December 27, 2007 Eurobricks Emperor Posted December 27, 2007 When the frigate L'Orient was originally constructed, it looked like this: Now it has returned to the dock where it was constructed and is receiving some updates: It got a capstan on the gundeck: The anchor is now attached in a correct way: Also rope is changed and added at different places on this frigate (thanks ZCerberus and Captain Green Hair for inventing some great techniques): It has a new figurehead (thanks Captain Green Hair!): Quote
Peg Leg Pascoe Posted December 27, 2007 Posted December 27, 2007 It look great, the ropes look awesome now and it must have taken a while to get them all right, nice job man :) Quote
Errorist Posted December 27, 2007 Posted December 27, 2007 (edited) it already looked great and now it looks even better. ok and now i'll stop sucking up :-P no seriously the rigging looks way better and i really like your capstan. nice job *y* Edited December 27, 2007 by Errorist Quote

Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted December 27, 2007 Author Eurobricks Emperor Posted December 27, 2007 @Peg Leg Pascoe: Thanks and welcome at Eurobricks !!! @Errorist: Thanks for the compliments ;-) Can we see some more pictures of the new figurehead or is there not much special there? I plan to add some boobies :-D I'll take a better picture when that is done ;-) Quote
Captain K. Posted December 28, 2007 Posted December 28, 2007 The visit in the dock has been worthwhile. The Orient looks even better now. Capt. K. P.S. In which dock was the Orient? Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted December 28, 2007 Governor Posted December 28, 2007 I think now is an excellent time to send a barrage of cannon balls hurtling towards it X-D Quote
Opproperaar Posted December 28, 2007 Posted December 28, 2007 Your ship does indeed look a lo better now. She's a big one ain't she? The rigging is superbly done, simple but effective. ;-) Though still, I don't think I can spend much time belowdecks before my eyes would start to hurt. Quote
Capn Frank Posted December 28, 2007 Posted December 28, 2007 Great improvement B! *y* I really like the use of all the strings. For indexing purposes, would you consider another moc, or an upgrade to your current one? P Quote
Captain Green Hair Posted December 28, 2007 Posted December 28, 2007 (edited) It has a new figurehead (thanks Captain Green Hair!): No problem! I like the changes you have made so far, i'm curious about the result when you finish the surgery! *y* EDIT: it could use some boobies :-D Edited December 28, 2007 by Captain green hair Quote
El Bucanero Posted December 28, 2007 Posted December 28, 2007 This ship is just getting better and better. Good job! *y* I like the new ropes, and the capstan is a cool detail. Does the capstan work? And the anchor. Well it does look alot better now then hanging in the rigging :-P But still.. I'm not sure if it's really hanging on the correct way now. Not trying to be a nitpick,8-| but it seems to me a certain beam is missing. (kraanbalk, in Dutch) You're building a fine ship mate! Quote
Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted December 28, 2007 Author Eurobricks Emperor Posted December 28, 2007 For indexing purposes, would you consider another moc, or an upgrade to your current one? It an upgrade, but it's still ongoing. I plan to replace the sails by cotton versions and reduce the amount of sails so it's more realistic for a frigate like this one. I started on this today, but I fear it will take some time before I finish this successful. And the anchor. Well it does look alot better now then hanging in the rigging :-PBut still.. I'm not sure if it's really hanging on the correct way now. Not trying to be a nitpick,8-| but it seems to me a certain beam is missing. (kraanbalk, in Dutch) Ah, good advise! I'll check some pictures on the internet to see what you mean. EDIT: I'm working on the sails and I'm playing around with the position of the spares (is that the correct term for those beams connecting the sails?). Quote
Captain Green Hair Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 Do you have an update yet B? I'm curious.... :-D Quote
Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted July 22, 2008 Author Eurobricks Emperor Posted July 22, 2008 It seems like this is a never ending project. The ship's got "real" sails by now. I used the procedure of white sheets in coffee to get the right color. However, I'm not happy with how the sides of the ship look. I like the red and black schema, but the red banner should he at the same height as the cannons. So today I ordered a bunch of bricks on bricklink.com to improve the looks of this ship. Besides the sides, also the standard bow and stern piece will be change from this into this: Quote
Norrington Posted July 22, 2008 Posted July 22, 2008 Great. I was never crazy about that style of tumble home. I prefer the kind with tall slopes, like you now seem to be doing. I think you should really do cat heads for your anchors, at any rate. Can't wait to see her rigged up properly. Quote
Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted July 22, 2008 Author Eurobricks Emperor Posted July 22, 2008 Great. I was never crazy about that style of tumble home. I prefer the kind with tall slopes, like you now seem to be doing. Yes, I'll be using the tall slopes for the tumble home. I ordered them in the US, so I hope it doesn't take too long for them to arrive. I think you should really do cat heads for your anchors, at any rate. Cat heads? What's that Mr. Norrington? Quote
Norrington Posted July 22, 2008 Posted July 22, 2008 \Cat heads? What's that Mr. Norrington? It's a small beam on the front of a ship where the anchor is hung off of. Quote
Captain Green Hair Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 Ah good to see that this project is still alive! I think the hull will definitly benefit from those new parts. Good point on those catheads from mr. Norrington, i hadn't noticed it Looking forward to some new shots! Quote
Teddy Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 Dear Bonaparte, really like your ship and the updates you are making. It has a real lego pirate feel to it. Also the tumbling home with the larger slopes will surely improve upon the smoothness of the ship. Also fitting her with coffee staint cloth sails. Curious how that will impact the overall look of the ship! Do you have any updated pictures yet? Kind regards, Teddy Quote
Chenben Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 Greats improvements. But the sails aren't look good for me. I think your boat will be nicer when you will make your new sails ;) Quote
Swab Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 I've always liked this ship. I found it a while back on Brickshelf (long before i found the forum). I like the color scheme and the new rope rigging. Looking forward to seeing the finished product. Swab Quote
Errorist Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 It looks like your ship will never be completed Bonaparte Still, I think those slopes are a great idea and I'm anxious to see more pictures of the result Quote
