Dazz Posted June 7, 2016 Posted June 7, 2016 To each their own I guess. To me, a UCS set are the things I mentioned above. Unique designs, an impressive display piece, something that has an excellent level of detail, something that gets people's heads turning. And furthermore, it's very unique to anything that's preceded it. That, in my opinion, is what makes a set UCS, but I can understand if you think otherwise. Ok, I thought you were using the term "UCS" in the sense of "official" UCS sets and didn't think you were using your own definition of "UCS". Using your definition the Ewok Village would definitely be one of the best UCS sets ever. Quote
FrankusFurtus Posted June 7, 2016 Posted June 7, 2016 Thx for the review! I assume it isnt easy to develop a as neutral as possible pont of view when begining a review of a set which received tons of negative oppinions line this one. I personally like this set because of: 1. Its the first star-wars ucs which aint is an insta-buy (hurray - saves money) 2. Other themes offer coool sets as well (2016h2 technic sets, Ghostbustsers HQ, Big Ben just to name a view... ) 3. Last but not least - without getting this years Star Wars UCS - satisfaction (till now... Snowspeeder, where are you?) the eye of Sauron is targeting on something else which can satisfy an AFOLs Star Wars UCS needings (me looks at mortesv Redemption MOC :-)). Quote
Staslegomaster Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 As C3PO said, it's supposed to be cold here. Quote
saibot Posted June 13, 2016 Posted June 13, 2016 when would we expect to see this set in the shops, as far as I can see its only on legoshop.com right now ? Quote
Hold0511 Posted June 13, 2016 Posted June 13, 2016 The set has been in the Liverpool Lego store for a while. Quote
Bob De Quatre Posted June 13, 2016 Author Posted June 13, 2016 For now it is exclusive to Lego Stores and S@H. Quote
jee_ace_guy Posted June 14, 2016 Posted June 14, 2016 Have you seen a MOC/MOD of this set ? (A combination with the 7879 à la Jabba's Palace + Rancor Pit MOC) thanks ;-) Quote
TR8R Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 I think Lego wanted to appeal to a younger audience with this set. Kids are going to want it because it is an easy build with some okay play features. I know as a young kid I would have been all over this set(which doesn't validate this product in any way). I think Lego should have just made this a $120 set and chosen something else for the 2016 ucs slot. Quote
Robianco Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 The set has been in the Liverpool Lego store for a while. And not selling particularly quickly from speaking to the team there... Quote
Raskolnikov Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 (edited) Have you seen a MOC/MOD of this set ? (A combination with the 7879 à la Jabba's Palace + Rancor Pit MOC)thanks ;-) I was working on that but kind of got bored halfway through -- it turns out that it's harder to attach them than I thought it would be. Jang of Jangbricks put them next to each other and has a video of it: he just kind of opens up the 7879 behind the 75098, letting it just serve as a back wall. That looks ok but it takes up a lot of room and isn't particularly accurate -- it results in the medical and control room parts of the base being randomly dispersed throughout the hangars. I haven't come up with an easy alternative, though. Overall, it's just not easy to combine 7879 and 75098. I think you probably have to disassemble the 7879 pretty significantly to do it right, and that point, I feel like you might as well just start rebuilding from the ground up. Also, one of the biggest challenges is just how much space a proper Hoth display takes up. I literally don't own a table big enough to do it right. Anyway, here's my current plan, if I get around to it: Add a bunch of white bricks, raise up the 75098 slightly, attach the 7879 on the left side of the base, turn it into a designated section of the base with control and medical rooms, and add tunnels with Wampa caves so they can break into the base (Wampas broke into Echo Base in deleted scenes from Empire Strikes Back, and are also shown doing so in Shadows of the Empire and the technical journal/cross-section of the base). What I've completed so far, I did while I was building the 75098 from the directions: I replaced colored technic pieces as I went along, made the blast doors solid black, added a fourth power generator module, redesigned the tops of all the rebel turrets to get rid of the too-wide "cockpits," and added a back to the Ion Cannon. If anyone wants some pictures of that, I could take some. Edited June 29, 2016 by Raskolnikov Quote
