Opproperaar Posted December 18, 2007 Posted December 18, 2007 It has become rather obvious now, most Europeans at least know by now that our country has been without a government ever since the last elections in June. More then half a year now. I not only watch the local Belgian channels, but BBC World and CNN as well. Of course the Belgian channels report regularly on the issue, as well as BBC World but so far - and why is beyond me - CNN still hasn't done so. I thought a Western country without government for the past six months ought to be sensational enough to make the news. Apparently I was wrong. So after 6 months of silence I switch the channel to CNN and - to my horror - look at a newsflash about the newly elected Miss Belgian Beauty's inability to speak Dutch. (Belgium has three official languages: Dutch, French and German) So what's up with that?!? >:-( Is it just me or do others agree that some news broadcasters should get their priorities straight? It's not like Belgium is a world-leading nation of sorts - and I don't pretend it to be that way - but last time I checked, beauty pageants were subordinate to elections and governments in terms of news value. |-/ If you want to see the newsflash click here PS: Sadly, in order to explain the entire situation over here and exactly why it's taking so long - a question many European news services apparently struggle with - takes an entire Belgian history lesson in order to explain. Mr Phred has aleady found that out. X-D And that was the short version, already three or so pages long. Quote
Matn Posted December 18, 2007 Posted December 18, 2007 It's funny, they have their right to do that. I think it's stupid that a miss Belgium Beaty can't speak dutch. I think that they chose her because there is a little conflict going on between Flanders and Wallonie... IMO... Quote
CopMike Posted December 18, 2007 Posted December 18, 2007 Actually, in Sweden the newspapers have reported about your mess quite a bit. But they also showed Miss Belgium being booed by the public :-P! On copmike Quote
