Piranha Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 (edited) Well I got my order from Kaminoian(who runs the "Fine Clonier" Decal Store) and applied the waterslide decals, which are very awesome and I will buy much more once he is open again *y* So here is my attempt at applying them My Custom Black Suit Spider-man from the 3rd movie using Kam's decals Backside, wierd it came out kind of blurry Side View Action Pose I thought it came out pretty good considering I have never done it before :-D Comments and feedback as always is great *sweet* P Edited December 15, 2007 by Hinckley Quote
Derek Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 Thats awesome! If only TLC made sets for the third movie... :-/ Quote
Hinckley Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 That is great! Kaminoan really has some great stuff there, doesn't he? It looks like you got some air trapped in there. You should roll a Q-tip over the decal once it's on to try and push all of those bubbles out. Quote

Yes Kam is really great, my order came with 2 sets even though I only bought one! *sweet* . The air bubble are very annoying however I will remember that next time, thanks for the advice This set of decals though was kinda of expensive at $6 but it was worth it Finally I thank Kaminoan for his great work and providing all sorts of decals and customs for the community *y* P Quote

SirNadroj Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 Nice for your first appilcation! (After my first order, I placed another! ;-) ) I would suggest finding the closest hobby store near you and purchasing Decal Set Solution, as well as gloss. The decal set sloution will bond the decal more securly and after 2 coats of gloss, the decal will literally look as if it were printed! :-) Quote

That does make the biggest difference. Quote
AgentRick Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 Aw, man. this puts my black suit spiderman to shame. I didn't want to do one based of the movie, mines based of the '80s comic. the pic is kinda blurry, I might say. PS you spelled Symbiote wrong Quote

Really looks great. *y* So if you don't have any local hobby stores Pirhana, check their site out! I would have liked to used decal softening solution, but I couldn't find it... :'-( Quote

figures_maniac Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 Nice work. Are they using clear waterslide or the white one? Quote
Ricecracker Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 Wish TLC had Spider-man 3 sets :'-( unfortunately m@#$b*&ks took that license, so no Spidey 3 for us :'-( Quote
Piranha Posted December 17, 2007 Author Posted December 17, 2007 Thanks Everybody for all the feedback :-) I know where they sell the gloss and will probably pick up a can or two but I had trouble finding setting solution Hopefully I'll have more to share, as this was a test run of water slide decals, from now on I only use them since they are excellent. *y* Figures Maniac- It was the clear water slide version ;-) P Quote

figures_maniac Posted December 18, 2007 Posted December 18, 2007 (edited) C=0 M=0 Y=0 K=1 That's how I do it... I'm not sure with your printer but my printer won't print anything if the color is white (because usually we print on white paper). So if I print it on a clear decal paper and apply it to the torso, i'll get the torso's color. Sorry bout this but i'm a newbie in customing minifigs. Edited December 18, 2007 by figures_maniac Quote
Starwars4J Posted December 18, 2007 Posted December 18, 2007 Here's some interesting information Kaminoan gave me via e-mail a few months ago that you might find useful: The biggest issue is that you filled the eyes white (0,0,0,0 CMYK) which means they would have been clear. Anything shown on the white layer should be in black.Even though it is in black, it will show in white when I print it. Quote

C=Cyan M=Magenta Y=Yellow K=Black If C,M,Y,K is set to 0,0,0,0 then it will print clear. Setting K (black) to 1 is 1% black or very very very very very very very light gray. To the naked eye it appears white. That is how to print white on decals... Quote

That is true if the you print it on white paper. My printer will print small, rare dots. More dots with less space between them will be printed if the color is darker. Maybe it is time for me to get a new printer. Quote

Are you familiar with 4-color process? 4-color means 4 inks are used and mixed by the printer. C,M,Y,K at 0,0,0,1 will print white on clear decal paper. C,M,Y,K at 0,0,0,0 will print a clear space on clear or white paper. Printing that on white paper will give you a white space. But printing at 1% black (C,M,Y,K at 0,0,0,1) produces a white area on any paper. Am I explaining this wrong? Can anyone who knows chime in and help me make it more clear? Do you use Photoshop or Illustrator to make your decals, I can show you exactly what I mean with the color pallette in those programs... Quote
