Username_Taken Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 Has anyone seen any good Corsair MOCs or anything that has to do with Turkish soldiers/pirates around? Thanks, U_T Quote
Col. Whipstick Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 (edited) Er, I don't think so, the only way of knowing for sure is going through the annals of this website, just about anything with maritime history makes it's way in here. Primarily considering the Lego Pirates most discussions and models revolve around European colonialism in the New World and not so much focusing on the colonies or lands of the Old World of the time. I recently made a post suggesting alternative themes for Pirates and Soldiers and based it on Southern Africa - in that thread I mentioned having Arab dhows and pirates in the Indian Ocean as it was so during the Golden Age. No one seems to have done any MOC's remotely in this area though. Likewise Oriental Pirates would be useful and the Europeans colonized much of the Pacific but that too has never featured, these guys tend to have a Caribbean policy only. woody64 Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 (edited) Especially since the ottomans had big influence in europe and also main influence on sea, whic h can also be seen in one of the main historical sea battle of Lepanto. The Lego Spanish Imerials are also well suited for this area. For ottoman navy you may fin a first step with: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_the_Turkish_Navy Andreas Edited December 9, 2007 by woody64 Quote
Lord Of Pies Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 As Col. Whipstick pointed out the LEGO pirate theme primarily centres around piracy in the Caribbean during the golden age, and not so much piracy/colonialism anywhere else in the world really. Quote

Which is a shame... all of Africa, India, China and most the Pacific wouldn't be too hard to simulate with the lego that's out there... Just mix elements of pirate lego with ninjas, the indian stuff from the Johnny Thunder series, the 'indians' from the western stuff, all of that is easily compatable with the era of 1500 - 1850ish. I always was astonished about the subthemes discussion. To my point of view the pirate theme starts with: - pirates (so far I haven't found that these theme is only dedicated to caribbean), - ~1650 (Henry Morgan) - imperial (which is said to represent english and french navy), therefore european ~1800 - islander (polynesian) - imperial armada, spanish based - ~1500 But all that together gives us the possibility to build any subtheme we want. For example: Lepanto: Spanish - Ottomans / Imperial Armada - Orient Andreas Edited December 9, 2007 by woody64 Quote
