Doctor Sinister Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 From left to right, Platoon captain (white sleeve), Platoon Sergeant (black sleeve) and regular trooper (standard green sleeve). Too weird? I figured troops would need to identify their leaders in a battle, and I don't want to go down the custom decal route (can't be bothered basically and it turns out I must be some kind of purist!). :-D Dr. S. Quote
Stauder Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 It does look kinda wierd, maybe give them differetnt coloured backs packs? (Brickbuilt or otherwise) or maybe a mini cape like the ones sandtroopers use to be known from stormtroopers? X-D Just my 2 cents stauder Quote
Doctor Sinister Posted December 3, 2007 Author Posted December 3, 2007 I got the idea from Space 1999 - the Moonbase Commander had a black sleeve, I think the security guys had red. I gave the Officer the white sleeve as I figured he'd be hiding inside the APC and wouldn't need the camo' so much. :-D I'm working on more backpacks - different colours is not a bad idea. Dr. S. Batbrick Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 It does look a wee bit weird in my opinion. Maybe they should just be different colours altogether, or atleast have the coloured sleeves on both sides. Good to see your ranking your army though *y* To the Brickmobile! -Courtesy of Exo-Builder who made it! >:-) Quote
simonwillems Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 I would change the torso if I were you, use for example this one: Those are my cents... :-) Quote

Doctor Sinister Posted December 3, 2007 Author Posted December 3, 2007 I would change the torso if I were you, use for example this one: Those are my cents... :-) I considered that one but to be honest the gun tucked into the belt put me off. It is a good torso, but I wanted something more utilitarian. Dr. S. Quote
Hinckley Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 I think it's a real cool concept, although it didn't read at first. Are you opposed to switching both arms out? What about different helmets or headgear? I think the world of custom decals is beckoning to you... ;-) EDIT: What about different color visors? Quote

Both arms is certainly an option, although I kind of like the asymmetry of this setup - the same way that the Stormtroopers on Tatooine had shoulder pauldrons on one side, don't ask me why. 8-| If I could find a green cap (like a Cop's hat) from my local Bricklink supplier - I'd change it, for sure (my favourite Bricklink seller is in my own town and even delivers to my doorstep!). Re' the visors, my reasoning was that all troops would have the same basic equipment, a different visor might imply a different functionality helmet - and if one trooper had to swap equipment in battle, he should be able to do so with anyone without fear of it being any different. I can see the appeal of custom decals - I can imagine sergeant's stripes on the back of his helmet, but I'm really loathe to go down that route - besides I've neither the skill nor the patience to do it and if I did do it I've no doubt I'd get it wrong. :-/ Dr. S. Big T Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 I know I'm probably repeating what the others are saying, but yeah it looks cool, but there is just something odd about the look of them. Maybe it's the actual green that makes it look weird, I dunno. I think it'd be interesting to see a comparison between one coloured arm and two. As far as the Visors go, I also see what you're saying, but surely your top guys won't get killed anyways :-D so swapping equipment wouldn't be an issue. I just think a Black Visor would looks awesome with the green helmet Quote
Doctor Sinister Posted December 3, 2007 Author Posted December 3, 2007 (edited) Uh oh...the General has come around for a snap inspection. :-D Dr. S. I just think a Black Visor would looks awesome with the green helmet That's fine, but now they can't see where they are going so they keep tripping over stuff. :-D Dr. S. Two-armed version (the Captain is NOT happy as those torsos came with white arms in the first place - he says can we make our minds up please. :-D ) Dr. S. ExoBuilder Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 I like them with the white arms better then the plain green. *y* Quote
Big T Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 (edited) Love the trip pick, looks like something I'd do. Didn't lego make some translucent black visors? I think I have one or two, that could work if you were desperate haha, but to be honest the double coloured arms I think works well. I think it would've been cool to pull the Sandtrooper one arm look, but I think overall it looks better, and you need your army to look good, not just kill well Great army though, I really need to starting building one of my own for my evil dude (sigfig) I could cheap out and use Stormies/Clormies, but I would be cool to have another army for some intense cross-theme fighting Edited December 4, 2007 by Big T Quote

I'm all mixed up about this arm business now, some people like 2 sleeves, some like 1. My preference is for 1 so I've gone back again. Argh! I don't know! *wacko* Dr. S. Quote
Big T Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 Ah yes on closer inspection they are the trans-black...I was never one for detail. In the end man it's what you think looks best, it is your army, and that's the good thing about lego, you can swap back and forth Quote
Hinckley Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 I like them with the white arms better then the plain green.I have to totally disagree. I think they look like Members Only jacket vests that way. :-X Dr. S, you were right IMO, assymetry on! Have you considered getting pauldrons from brickforge? Quote

I like the idea of a pauldron- maybe you should go flat out and give them a kama as well! (For those unfamiliar- a kama is this: Wookiepedia) Also, if you don't want decals, maybe you could use rubber bands? They'd also be practical, so the trooper could use it to hold a weapon. iamded Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 I myself use different coloured/shaped visors or different helmets to show different ranks. ~Peace Quote

Doctor Sinister Posted December 4, 2007 Author Posted December 4, 2007 OK, so here's what I've finally gone for. From left to right - General (Red), Captain (Purple), Sergeant (Black), Military Police (Grey), Recon' (Tan), Medic (White), Maintenance/Gunner (Orange), Pilot (Blue), Driver (Yellow) and Trooper (Green). All troops can also be identified from the rear - all Officers have red backpacks. Dr. S. Quote

Hinckley Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 I say use the sleeve and the pauldron (assymetrical pauldron, too. They're removable ;-) )! I think the driver looks like a total badass, by the way. With the yellow "sleeve" It looks like he's torn the sleeve off to be able to shift easily. X-D Quote

Siegfried Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 OK, so here's what I've finally gone for. Sorry that I haven't got around to posting here earlier. :-$ I love the idea of swapping an arm... although what will you do with all the spare arms? :-D I will make a point to note though that modern militaries rarely make it easy for the enemy to know who are the officers and thus rank marking are generally subdued in non-ceremonial uniforms. Am I suggesting you change it? Probably not as it does look pretty cool... but perhaps the red backpack is a bit much. Quote
