JPN366 Posted March 29, 2016 Posted March 29, 2016 (edited) Is there a sticker that you have trouble with? A set of stickers? The stickers for particular set? Have you re-done any stickers on your sets and still messed them up? Do you cut off the negative space on a sticker that matches the color of the LEGO piece its applied to if you have to re-place it and crimp the corners? Just thought it would be interesting topic. Mine would be the stickers for the 75087 Anakin's Custom Jedi Starfighter aka the Azure Angel. I completely botched the stickers the first time and finally got around to re-doing them. My sticker nemesis is the "A" sticker from 75087. It may be the easiest one in the set, but it's given me the most problems. Edited March 30, 2016 by JPN366 Quote
Junior Shark Posted March 29, 2016 Posted March 29, 2016 (edited) Any sticker I've had to put on part 45301: The difficulty with this piece is its length- it's very hard to get the sticker perfectly straight along the whole length of the piece. And Exo-Force. *shudder* Look at all of those stickers! http://brickset.com/...le-Defense-Tank http://brickset.com/...-1/Gate-Assault http://brickset.com/...-1/Aero-Booster They were especially troublesome for my 8/9-year old self. Even worse than putting all those stickers on was taking them off- I had to use sooo much lemon. Edited March 30, 2016 by Junior Shark Quote
Frike Posted March 29, 2016 Posted March 29, 2016 I recently picked up the 75050 B-Wing. Let's just say that finding the center of a square never has been this hard and let's hope that the Rebel Alliance wont mind the crude placements. I found it really odd how these were round stickers and not squares covering the whole part, that would definitely have been easier. Oh and I don't dare look at the pieces from my old Exo-Force sets. Back then I didn't really mind the stickers at all so having put them on all those sloped pieces sure wont look that good! :P Quote

r5-j2 Posted March 30, 2016 Posted March 30, 2016 (edited) I can`t stand the things..the Force Awakens Rebel Transport is a set I really would like to buy, but it is so sticker heavy and the cockpit framing looks hideously tricky. Why couldn`t LEGO have just printed that one piece (and any other window framing/cockpit parts on other sets)?..I could live with it then ;even if I goosed up some (ALL PROBABLY!) of the hull stickers! Tariq j Posted March 30, 2016 Posted March 30, 2016 (edited) Textured pieces seem to have trouble with stickers. The Wampa Cave snowspeeder had a sticker which kept on coming off Edited March 30, 2016 by Tariq j Quote
Flandy Posted March 30, 2016 Posted March 30, 2016 (edited) The stickers on my UCS 75095 tie were peeling of the damned backing sheet, I put them on the built model as I figured they'ed be better protected stuck to plastic than the backing sheet that they're designed to peel off. they still lift around the edges, but so long as I push them back on regularly they seem to stay put. The big data sheet sticker is a pain to put on, and you know how hard it'd be to get another if you messed it up! Edited March 30, 2016 by Flandy Quote

I would request new stickers if they were peeling off the sheet straight out of the box, especially for any UCS set. Quote

I hate applying stickers. I want them to be perfectly aligned and yet don't have the dexterity to align them perfectly. I especially hate any 1x2 snot stickers. Junior Shark Posted March 30, 2016 Posted March 30, 2016 I have a small box with 6 years of stickers Same, but in a bag! I don't actually mind stickers, and I use them in MOCs all the time, I just dislike how applying a sticker limits the usefulness of a piece. Quote

I found it really odd how these were round stickers and not squares covering the whole part, that would definitely have been easier. This was the set that brought me out of the dark ages and the second one I put together. Oddly, I had no trouble with the orange circles. But, I did put the engine stickers in the wrong place. I put the light gray one on the dark gray piece and the dark gray one on the light gray piece. This is on my list to fix. The stickers on the windscreen of the newer UCS X-Wing is such a PAIN to put on that lego gives you two sets of them. Ya know, just in case. They should honestly give you a spare set of stickers in every set. If it's cheaper or most cost efficient to do stickers instead of printed pieces, then give us extra. I can`t stand the things..the Force Awakens Rebel Transport is a set I really would like to buy, but it is so sticker heavy and the cockpit framing looks hideously tricky. I got that one and I messed up the stickers that go on the vertical wings. I had no trouble with the others and I was able to do the canopy stickers with patience. I hate trying to put a round sticker on a round 2x2 tile. I can never get them centered perfectly!!! The sticker on the top hatch of the 75083 AT-DP I've messed up twice. I've centered it both times, it's just been turned a little bit each time. I have a small box with 6 years of stickers You could sell those if you don't want them. I agree. round ones are annoying... I hate applying stickers. I want them to be perfectly aligned and yet don't have the dexterity to align them perfectly. I especially hate any 1x2 snot stickers. They're so small that they usually end up misaligned for me. The very first set I did when I came out of my dark ages was the most recent Snowspeeder 75049. I didn't look at the instructions very closely and guessed on which sticker went on the pilot console. I used the gray and orange sticker that goes on the 1 x 2 gray tile on the outside. I had to peel it off and it got crimped at the corner, so I cut off the negative gray space and it looked better. I didn't line up any of the stickers very well, so that one is next up for me to fix. JPN366 Posted March 30, 2016 Author Posted March 30, 2016 (edited) The "A" sticker from the 75087 set was a comedy of errors for me. As I said before, I completely botched the stickers the first time, including the long white stripes sticker on the nose. That one I got off center the first time, pulled it off, cut off the negative blue space all the way down to get rid of the crimped areas and reapplied it. It was centered, but over time it started peeling. I ordered a replacement sheet and nailed all the stickers perfectly. The original "A" sticker was slightly off center and hanging off the edge. After I put on the new one, I noticed an air bubble at the blank end. I had a "I've made a huge mistake moment when I used my fingernail to try to push it out and scratched the sticker badly. I peeled that end up and cut it off, but the cut wasn't straight and my anal retentiveness got the best of me and I kept peeling and cutting until a I ran out of room and it was crimped again. I retrieved the old sticker from the sheet, I put the old ones on the new sticker sheet when I replace them and give the old ones to my son to use. The old "A" sticker was fine, so I cut the crimped end off and re-applied it. I noticed an air bubble... I walked away, took a deep breath and left it alone. Edited March 30, 2016 by JPN366 Quote

jhaelego Posted March 30, 2016 Posted March 30, 2016 I wonder how troublesome it would be for Lego to just send the pieces with stickers pre-applied. This of course would make using stickers for MOCs a little more troublesome if you wanted it on a different piece. Quote
Junior Shark Posted March 30, 2016 Posted March 30, 2016 I wonder how troublesome it would be for Lego to just send the pieces with stickers pre-applied. Probably pretty troublesome. They'd have to make a new machine to apply the stickers- and then they'd have to teach it thousands of different ways to put stickers on bricks. And with that, they no longer have deniability if a sticker is applied wrong. Quote
Raskolnikov Posted March 30, 2016 Posted March 30, 2016 (edited) I generally like stickers, am pretty good at applying them, and frequently use them in MOCs. They allow you to add a lot of detail that just would not be possible with only printed bricks. That said, the clear ones tend to be trouble. Clears stickers applied to clear panels are the worst offenders, but even clear stickers applied to colored bricks may have issues with visible air bubbles or being able to see some slightly opaque "sticker goop" behind the sticker (especially if you had to reposition it, at all). The clear stickers do tend to have more versatility -- I just wish they looked better. Edited March 30, 2016 by Raskolnikov Quote
TheBrickHitHouse Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 UCS X Wing...that was truly horrible I despise stickers but feel a model is incomplete if I don't apply them. As such, I do my best then buy 2-3 spares from bricklink just in case. I've found virtually all stickers peel in time, having spares helps because once a set is discontinued it's a real challenge to do anything about stickers folding at the edges. My spare sticker box is probably quite valuable now - you can get a set for next to nothing early on but the prices soon rise... Quote
neoconagenda Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 I applied the UCS X-wing clear sticker in a bowel of water with a drop of soap. To my surprise it worked perfectly. On the round pieces I like to place the sticker upside down on another piece then center the actual piece over the other and drop it down. Almost every time it works out well. Quote
