Sinister Industries (a Division of Sinister Incorporated) is proud to present the Venom Class Battlefield Superiority Helicopter (BSH), a multi-role military aircraft designed for engaging both ground and airborne targets.

venom01.jpg

Carrying a crew of one, the Venom is protect by a ceramic armour plate which is designed to deflect small arms fire and even some large calibre weapons - full details of the capabilities are classified at this time.

venom02.jpg

The Venom features a NOTAR (No Tail Rotor) design, instead using vectored thrust from nozzles either side of the engine to counter the torque generated by the rotor blades.

venom03.jpg

The Venom typically carries four Sinister Industries Gunslinger "fire and forget" missiles, capable of destroying ground targets and some aircraft, although it can also be equipped with rockets for acting in a pure ground attack role or two AA missiles if air defence is required.

venom04.jpg

The two missile pods either side of the Venom can be easily swapped out for other weapon modules.

venom05.jpg

The Venom's secondary weapon system is the electrically powered Mk VI Accumulator minigun, capable of firing up to 4,000 20mm rounds per minute from large ammunition stores in the nose of the aircraft.

venom06.jpg

The Venom is capable of speeds up to 310mph and is extremely stable at high speeds due to the tail array.

venom07.jpg

The tail array generates extra lift and is itself armoured with the same classified ceramic plate.

venom08.jpg

The Venom's sleek shape makes it extremely aerodynamic and ideally suited for engaging enemy helicopters and even some slower fixed wing aircraft in its role as a battlefield superiority helicopter.

venom09.jpg

Due to the plethora of weapon sensors at the front of the aircraft, the air intake actually sits behind the engine, with airflow being routed by a compressor to the front of the engine itself via conduits mounted around the engine frame. This serves the dual role of both cooling the engine during flight and slightly pre-heating the incoming air for combustion. In this picture you can also see the rear landing skids which are retracted upwards at this time.

venom10.jpg

The engine exhaust nozzle can be vectored to provide additional manoeuvrability.

venom11.jpg

Here you see the front landing skids in their lowered position to allow the Venom to land.

venom12.jpg

And here, the rear landing skids lowered. The variable geometry of the landing gear makes it possible for the Venom to land on rough surfaces.

venom13.jpg

The front minigun will automatically turn to face in whatever direction the pilot is looking.

An excellent addition to Tabletown's growing army Doctor Sinister! *y*

You seem, to be tightening your grip on the town eh?

I love the use of dark green for a change, and the missile launchers are well designed! 8-

Thank you sir! *y* Actually, the minigun is one of my favourite bits. :-D Each to their own I guess. :-)

Thats alright :-) And don't get me wrong, I like the minigun, but just wish it was a bit more bricky ;-)

And btw, I apologise for not making comments about your other creations, they are very fantastic! *y*

I'll comment on them here to make it up to you:

The RUV jeep:

I didn't like it at first, but it grew on me a lot as I got the general idea of it. The use of trans bricks for windows I like, and you have a lot of great features packed into it! *y* They look very cool in groups too!

Infiltrator Class APC:

There are some excellent examples of greeble used here that I love, but my favourite part is the gun on top 8-

Thanks, I like the Sentinel, they are really cool to play with and they absolutely will not fall apart even when my children mess around with them! This is THE one that feels like a proper LEGO kit that you might buy off the shelf.

Thanks very much for taking the time out to give me your thoughts, it's appreciated!

Do you plan on making anymore Tabletown defenses? Or are these enough to take on the evil that is Best-Lockland?

Anyway, this is a great helicopter, was the dark green used for any particular reason or did it just look cool? (which it does *y* )

And the minigun is growing on me now actually :-$

To the Brickmobile! >:-)

I've just posted another MOC and I'm working on photos for something else right now (day off work today!) but that's kind of it I think. I used the dark green pieces because I liked the shapes of the curves.

A very nice work with a great color scheme, useful weaponry and a cool tail design. *y*

Maybe that squared area above the cockpit windshield looks a bit too blocky.... perhaps

some of these small 1x1 slopes attached to these decent 1x2 inverted slopes instead of

these 1x2 plates could work.... 8-|

I know what you mean, it's so blocky as I had to build up the level slightly in order to accommodate a minifig, there's no real way around it as I can't make the floor any shallower and I don't want that cockpit canopy any higher. It's a compromise I'm happy with.

This is fantastic! The missile mounts are great, the whole design is awesome! I'd like to see some of the 'other weapon modules', for example, maybe a couple of miniguns for extra ground anti-personal defence? The colour is the only thing that gets to me. The lime green just looks out of place. :-/ I assume it's a parts thing. Still, this is really cool, and I can't wait to see more. We've got land and air, how about a submarine next?

~Peace

Oops, I nearly forgot the: *y* *y* *sweet*

Yep, the lime green is a parts thing - I had no choice with what I had to use some lime green for the hinges, so I figured I'd try to make it a feature. :-D

A chopper now! :-P Overall I like this a lot, the shape is really cool looking and it reminds me of Ka-50...

300px-Ka-50_NTW_7_8_93.jpg

The colour (including the lime ;-) ) works quite well and I love the stub wings.

Feel free to ignore the stuff below...

<Wanker mode>

As a chopper it is not very convincing. I realise that you say it is a NOTAR design, but the exhaust really should be further out on the boom to be effective, and unless the rotor can spin both ways the exhaust should only be on one side. On the same issue, if the tail generates extra lift it will cause the chopper to nosedive.... Is there any reason why you decided to design it the way you did? Your other stuff is quite believable and I must admit I was a bit surprised...

I figured you may want to fire the exhaust one way or the other to enable the chopper to spin left or right quickly. As for the tailfin, I'll bow to your better judgement. Aerodynamics was never my strong point, I just thought it looked cool, that was it. :-$

I'll get my coat... :-)

I always thought that without the thrust from the tail rotor it would turn fast enough... and the NOTAR patent...

Notar_helicopter.png

...supports this. ;-) But don't let me being a twit ruin your fun. It still is a cool looking chopper. *sweet* Besides, at this very moment I am making a transforming plane; how realistic is that?! :-P

OK, I've remounted the shoot after some Sinner-inspired modifications.

Sinner - tell me what you think now (new images should appear up top).

The new descriptions are as follows:

1) The Venom features a NOTAR (No Tail Rotor) design, instead using vectored thrust from a nozzle on one side of the engine to counter the torque generated by the rotor blades.

2) The tail array generates extra lift and is itself armoured with the same classified ceramic plate. To prevent the Venom from nosediving, extra thrust is generated at the nose from vents either side of the minigun assembly. These vents can have extra thrust diverted to them to assist the rate of climb and add to the Venom's agility in the air.

Does this cover it? :-D

Dr. S.

:-P It sure does! I'll get back in my box now. :-$

Phew. Seriously though, thanks for the input, a guy on another group yesterday said he had "issues" with it but that it looked "cool" but he wouldn't tell me what those "issues" were. I bet he had a good laugh at me. :-D

Hopefully I've stopped looking like a fool now (nah, never!). *y*

I think the name "Wanker Twit" has a nice ring to it. I would get used to it if I were you. :-P In all honesty I love when someone builds something Sinner can wank about. We all learn so much. That sounds sarcastic, but I assure you it isn't.

Dr. S I really enjoy this creation of yours. I oftentimes think the LEGO helicopters are half-assed with the exception, of course of the gigantic Dino Attack one. I love all the thought you've put into this and the specific enginneery thingies that make the helicopter go. I'm not a smarty like you so I can't discuss it great detail, but I really love it. It's shiny and has pretty colors. :-$ No, I truly appreciate it on many levels.

Tabletown should be well protected from the Best-Lock troops. I think, however, they must be behind that awful chest infection you had...they're trying to take out Tabletown's Chief Military Engineer. 8-|

Thank you Hinckley, that means a lot. :-$

I really am all greened-out now. I know I said this before, but my green stocks are nearly exhausted and my fingers hurt after nearly two solid weeks of building, taking apart, building, dropping, swearing and rebuilding. Honestly, I spent Sunday afternoon ripping arms out of minifig torsos and pressing new ones back in and my thumb is really sore. :-D

I may just content myself with planning some kind of barracks for these guys (it won't be green though!!) or just doing action shots with the troops.

I really like it man. I like how there has been the green colour co-ordination between the troops and helicopter (only two of yours I've seen so far)

I really like the overall shape of it, and it's evident you've put a lot of thought into it. The NOTAR idea fits in better than I thought it would, although it's probably the streamlined look that help it. Those are some beastly weaponry too
