Waaaaaaay back in 2001 I stumbled across a certain online game, featuring robot-like figures and creatures. My world would never be the same. The story gripped me like no other story ever had, and soon I was completely hooked on this thing called Bionicle. I just loved the mystery filled world that had been created, with the cute little Tohunga, the Turaga village elders, and the great Toa-heroes fighting against monstrous Rahi which were controlled by an unseen evil. Soon I was buying the sets and I was amazed at how much fun the Rahi were, not only did they look really nice, they also had great action features.

As we all know, Bionicle turned out to be a huge succes, and year after year new sets and new storylines were created. But none captured my imagination as the original storyline did, and with each new year less of the mystery and magic remained. However, with so many new and interesting parts added each year, building techniques have evolved considerably since the first year, and it has made me extremely curious what the original Rahi would've looked like if they had been designed with present day building techniques and parts.

My question to my fellow EB members is: would you be interested in a "Pimp my Rahi" contest? The entries would have to be based directly on the original 2001 Rahi, including their action features like the punching arms of the Tarakava and the snapping jaws of Muaka & Kane-Ra, but redesigned using current parts and techniques.

Rahi are animal like creatures that inhabit the Bionicle Universe. In the original storyline Makuta infected their masks with his evil, turning them into his minions. There were five Rahi sets released with the original launch of Bionicle: Nui-Rama are large flying insects with slashing wings; Nui-Jaga are scorpion-like creatures with crushing tails; Tarakava are lizzard-like creatures with punching arms; Muaka & Kane-Ra are a tiger and a bull, both with extending necks and snapping jaws; Manas are giant crabs, radio controlled and with punching arms.

You can find them all here.
