Multi-Cities are Something crazy to do if you have the resources. the goal is to try to not build just one lego city, but 2 obut cities connected by a train route or highway in order to make a small state/county/WORLD! i really wish i could try to do that, but i have currently insufficient resources.

THE RESOURCES

The resources you would need are:

Sufficient bricks

Sufficient space

Sufficient money

Sufficient know-How

and..

sufficient time.

A way to make most of the resources easier on you would be to space out work on the multi-cities until you've met certain requirements. i have divided these resources into 2 groups:

MATERIAL RESOURCES

Space>Money>Bricks

NON-MATERIAL RESOURCES

Time*>Know-how

*i put time before know-how because The average human life-time is quite a while.

EXTRA CHALLENGES

Make requirements for buildings--

Rating system does not include initial Multi-City goal

Make sure buildings and structures can withstand a certain amount of stress so as to keep your citizens safe.

Difficulty: 4/10

DETAILED MULTI-CITIES

Focus on detail. make a realistic amount of street-lights, or add a few junction boxes here and there, maybe plan out a bus-line.

Difficulty: 8/10

INCORPORATE REAL ELEMENTS

Make a small waterway by making a trench and lining it with plastic rap/tin foil/any other waterproof material. maybe use a small amount of real soil in a garden or conservatory.

Difficulty: VARYING/10

EXAMPLES

If you find a example of a multi-city project, Link to it and i will add it here.

YOUR TURN!

Discuss your multi-city ideas, concepts, and designs, and anything regarding multi-cities

Good topic! I have wanted to do this for quite some time, but mybiggest problem is no space to do so. This is the main reason i don't have a big city now.

I'm in the process of buying a new house (my first :'-) ) and the loft, is really big, and i plan on building to cities, conected by a highway.

One prodject that i'm going to start next year, is to some how run a train though every room in the house. Don't know how i'll do that quite yet, but i'm going to arange the furniture based around this idea.

I have ideas in my head on how i want to go about doing this, but haven't quite settled on a specific one as of yet.

One idea i really like is incorperating a real water way. Give the boats a real port, boat launch, and have the river run though the hole town. I think that would really add to the realisim. The garden idea is good to. Espeacailly conecting the two towns.

I have done this somewhat, but with space cities, between unitrons and exploriens, and no train, but a large monorail complex. There were also landing bays for other lego space systems to land and trade cargo, it was quite a project, now, sadly, I cannot rebuild untill my lego space has been completely moved.

It had occurred to me to build a second LEGO town in my loft - but this is two levels higher than Tabletown and it would take some major engineering works to connect the two - a highway or railway would be impossible. Would be kind of cool to have small settlements in every room though...

Regarding a waterway, great idea - but you would need to either have the water circulate or replace it every so often or it might stagnate - realistic perhaps but it would stink the house out. Imagine though, you could have divers in rivers, a submarine, sunken pirate ships, treasure - it would really add a new dimension to a town.

This is a great idea and something I have contemplated doing when I have the time/space/money/Lego.

My plan if I did something like this would be to have one main city based on a commercial/industrial theme. This would include a police station, fire station, hospital, port, office blocks and some lower quality housing. I would then link this by road and rail to an airport and a residential suburb. This suburb would have better quality housing and a small shopping area. I would also try and incorporate some residential elements like a beach and sets like this marina. Other things this are may have would be a school and sports facilities.

As well as this I would like to make a small mountain community linked to this. Not sure though whether this would be for tourists or populated by survivalist type crazies!

I also like your idea of a water feature but see a couple of downsides. First is the fact that Lego only make a small number of boats that float on water compared to those that don't and these tend to be quite large. The other problem would be if I tried this I would more than likely make a complete mess of it and flood my house! One idea I have thought of in the past is making a canal or river using blue plates or tiles set at a slightly lower level than the main city. This would require either propping up the rest of the city or cutting into the surface it is on. This is just something I think would look cool but not sure how well it will work. If I ever try it I will let you know!

I barely have enough bricks to make a small village, but I have thought about this idea, like making a micro futuristic city, connected by cyber-rail or motorway (Of the future!!) If I were to do this, I would probably make th e city more like a cluster of sky scrapers, with a few industrial like buildings around the out skirts.

your going to hate me (i don't know how to change it from a bmp. 8-| )

but this is my design:

http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/steelhar...ty/untitled.bmp

light grey=modular city buildings

dark gray=pavement

really dark grey=contamination doors

black=roads

green=public garden

basically it is a 3x3 grid of 9 32x32 baseplates (my own ldd raised ones) with a road circling it and more modules can be added until...

this means no curved roads yay

this is a very good topic !!!

i like this type of layout development because it really forces you to give your city character, because i think this layout would only really shine if each city has a distinct personality from the other. much like JSN described...

My plan if I did something like this would be to have one main city based on a commercial/industrial theme. or if one were an industry based city, and one commercial, that would give the two cities a unique feel from the other... or if each had two distinctly different industries, that could work too.

there a lot of possibilities for different industries, but LEGOs lack of exploring these possibilities would really halt the expansion of this idea. as of right now LEGO has only fleshed out two industry possibilities, shipping and construction, right ???

i think, if i were to plan a layout of two cities, one would incorporate 7994 and be a shipping/exporting based city, next to the sea. this city would be older in character, and possibly more decrepit. the sister city would then be a land-locked city. this more recently developed city would be more of a commercial district, and maybe whose industry was construction, both residential and commercial.
