Widdi Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 (edited) I went to the Spitzing lake area last weekend. There was a lot of powder snow with about 75 centimetres in the valley (at 1085m asl.) and approximately 150 centimetres at the Upper Firstalm lodge. I went there with my chase partner and our cameras, of course. I drove from my hometown to my chase partner's and picked him up there at 10:45 am Then we drove to the Spitzing area and had to search a while for a parking site, due to ski season opening. Sadly some pictures are damaged due to a SD-card crash on the ride down. Some pictures in the report are taken from my chase partner's lot. 1st. Ascend to the Spitzing saddle After finally getting a parking site, we began to hike along the frozen over lake up to the saddle. it wasn't all that easy since I took my swiss-made sled with me pulling it up and over the masses of snow. Scenic view at the shores of the frozen over Spitzing lake The village as seen from the lake Stuempfling mountain from below the 1683m high Brecherspitz mountain from the valley Bodenschneid mountain (1668m asl.) from the valley global warming? No! more like a new ice age Lots of snow all around the area The complete village in the view sunlighted winter forest, sorry for the frame in the lower part Lots of snow on the Spitzing saddle (courtesy of my partner) Taubenstein mountain as seen from the saddle 2nd. Ascend to the Upper Firstalm lodge at 1370m asl. Later we hiked up a 2,5 km forest trail and ascended about 250 metres. There was much traffic going on, tobogganers, skiers and finally some hikers, due to great snow and weather conditions (permanent frost at max -3 Edited November 20, 2007 by Widdi Quote
