kjm161 Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 Haunted Mansion Disneyland’s New Orleans Square “Welcome Foolish Mortals, You are hereby invited to a spirited adventure in the home and estate of a prosperous yet departed sea captain, Captain Bartholomew Gore. Alas, the sea captain and his family long ago met an ... untimely ... end. The mansion is now home to 999 ghosts, ghouls, and goblins. Enter .. if you dare!” haunted mansion 1 by Karen Metz, on Flickr My rendition of Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion closely resembles the Shipley-Lydecker mansion, Imagineer Ken Anderson’s inspiration for the attraction and includes many of his original concepts as well as iconic ghostly scenes. It is built on a 32x32 base plate and is fully modular. Not all 999 ghosts can be seen but many have a home. The long departed sea captain sits in the living room trying in vain to warm himself by the fire. The library is stocked - only ghost stories of course. A pair of ghosts wait for their meal that they will never again be able to enjoy in the kitchen/dining room. The size of the dining room is a lot smaller than in the attraction and the kitchen is based off of a concept drawing that was never incorporated into the ride. Haunted Mansion 1st by Karen Metz, on Flickr Haunted Mansion 1st Floor by Karen Metz, on Flickr Behind the central grand staircase a grandfather clock chimes that the witching hour has begun. A pair of ghosts dance to music begin played on instruments without apparent players. The stretching gallery adorns the walls of the staircase (images from Avastindy on Deviantart). The Hat Box Ghost is ascending the stairs and nearing a strange picture of a young boy that appears to change while you look at it. Haunted Mansion Stretching Room by Karen Metz, on Flickr Haunted Mansion staircase by Karen Metz, on Flickr Singing busts by Karen Metz, on Flickr More ghosts, including the captain’s wife, a weeping Priscilla who was entombed behind the bricks in the fireplace by her husband, are haunting the upstairs. Eerie music emanates from the organ being played by a ghostly figure. I wonder if he met his untimely end from the axe wielding black widow bride, Constance Hatchaway standing behind him. In Master Gracey’s bedroom a small ghost plays with her teddy bear on the ornate canopy bed. A few more ghosts and ghouls can be found in and around the house as well as the caretaker and his trusty yet nervous dog, who has found Priscilla’s wedding ring that was thrown out the attic window. A toad seems to gaze on the remains of another, “Here lies Mr. Toad. Sad but true. Far less popular than Pooh.” while being serenaded by some singing bust statues. When (and if) you leave please don’t pick up the hitchhiking ghosts, Gus, Ezra and Phineas. Some colours were changed to keep expense down as well or because the parts were not available in the right colour. Quote
Agent 86 Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 Awesome! Simply awesome. I'm in awe at the great work and attention to detail. Quote
greenalfonzo Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 This is...Very Exciting! I've often wished lego didn't make just licensed sets based on Disney movies, but on Disneyland rides! Quote
Herky Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 This is one of my favorite attractions at Disneyland and DisneyWorld...such great detail you put into it. Do you have details as to how many bricks? I would buy this set in a minute. Amazing. Quote
kjm161 Posted March 14, 2016 Author Posted March 14, 2016 Thanks for the comments. I don't know exactly how many bricks I used, but it is probably between 3000 and 3500. Quote
Herky Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 now to be realistic, you need to put rows upon rows of minifigs waiting to get in to see the attraction Quote
Lego Conductor Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 Simply out of this world! Good job Kjm161, good job indeed! Quote
xboxtravis7992 Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 Technically the Mr. Toad tombstone is only in the Florida version;) Good MOC, I like the use of portriats from the actual ride. Could use a stretching room though. Quote
kjm161 Posted March 18, 2016 Author Posted March 18, 2016 Good catch, I know Mr. Toad is in Florida and was going to include a disclaimer. The weathervane is also a nod to WDW Haunted Mansion. I tried making a ship but it looked too large even in micro scale so I went with the bat instead. I have added tile to the second story floor and the bathroom so it is easier to see the elements. Haunted Mansion Upstairs by Karen Metz, on Flickr Here is the picture of the main floor too without ghosts (well one still there). rockethead26 Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 This is simply amazing and an incredible work of passion. Quote
AFOLguy1970 Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 This is a fun MOC and so many details! If I were a Disney executive, I would ask you to display this at the actual ride for a while in exchange for a season pass or something nice. Quote
Only Sinner Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 What an impressive mansion! It looks superb from every angle, and not to mention the amazing amount of detail on the interior, too. High five! Quote
