Tanotrooper Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 During one of the many urban battles in Stalingrad, a Russian grenade flies through the air, and a German soldier is blown away, surving but with his legs ripped off from the blast... This might be a part of a series of vignettes showing a street battle scene... TT Quote
Lt. Col. Thok Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 Ow. Nadroj would be proud. What nationality is the corpse in the snow? I looks German (stereotyping ON!). Quote
SirNadroj Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 Wow, this is very deep, but very good! *y* Great use of the Two-Face head! *wub* Ow. Nadroj would be proud. Hehe! ;-) Of course I am. *y* Quote
Tanotrooper Posted November 10, 2007 Author Posted November 10, 2007 the corpse snowed in is supposed to be from a Russian soldier, with his body rotting, and the arm eaten by a dog or (as happened a lot in the Kessel) eaten by humans... why would you be proud, SirNadroj? TT Quote
zero1312 Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 Well done, Tanotrooper. Very authentic!!! *y* Quote
SirNadroj Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 why would you be proud, SirNadroj? You need to be bold to make a violent and bloody military MOC, and I've done some violent military MOC's too. ;-) That's what Lt. Col. Thok was pointing out, right? ;-) Quote
Lt. Col. Thok Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 (edited) That's what Lt. Col. Thok was pointing out, right? ;-) It is. ;-) Also, because you made WWII mocs, I thought of you when I saw this. X-D EDIT: 770 posts. Woot. Edited November 10, 2007 by Lt. Col. Thok Quote
iamded Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 Cool! Having studied Stalin's rule over the USSR, and watched a movie about this war (I think it was 'Enemy at the Gates' or something...) this MOC is in familiar territory. Not to mention just finished playing the Russian campaign in Call of Duty 2. Nice and gory, which I certainly am not against, as seen in my Hitman and Punisher vigs. :-P Keep it up! ~Peace Quote
Captain Green Hair Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 Great Vig! I love history, especially the military episodes. You saying you are planning a battlescene in the street? I love to see a good diorama, as i made those with my kit build tanks as a kid *wub* Quote
jedikermit Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 I should have my students make WWII vigs out of LEGO when we get to that point in the school year. I'm sure 7th Graders would be able to produce enough gore to satiate all of us. Quote

Tanotrooper Posted November 12, 2007 Author Posted November 12, 2007 indeed, but could you explain to me what 6th graders and so are, since we dont have that kind of system over here... TT It would be great to have inspired someone to inspire more to join the community. Quote
jedikermit Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 indeed, but could you explain to me what 6th graders and so are, since we dont have that kind of system over here... 7th Grade = 12/13 year olds. I teach 7th Grade History, which for them is 20th Century History. I mainly cover WWI, The Great Depression, WWII, The Cold War, Vietnam, Civil Rights Movement, and a few other things. In any case, I have seen some great vignettes and dioramas using LEGO that I could make into teachable moments with my students...but raising the $$$ to supply the classroom with LEGO would be a challenge. If I went to my principal and said, "yeah, I need to get $500 in LEGO reimbursed," she'd laugh me out of her office. And my job. Still, something to think about. Quote
casewindu Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 Nice Vig Tanotrooper simple yet effective! I am currently dont WW1-WW2 for GCSE history but we focus more on the terms and comditions of the big three, the league of nations and the long term effects and stuff. I think are whole class would rather do the battles though! Much more exciting! X-D I have made several Lego dioramas for History in the past including a back death scene! Quote
jedikermit Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 Yeah, I've seen several here and elsewhere that would be great for my students...either to have them build themselves or simply to incorporate into PowerPoints or other presentations... Quote

El Bucanero Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 Wow TT, I think you captured the scene very well. I'm looking forward to your next vig!! the corpse snowed in is supposed to be from a Russian soldier, with his body rotting, and the arm eaten by a dog or (as happened a lot in the Kessel) eaten by humans...TT Eaten humans you say? 8- Quote

Tanotrooper Posted November 13, 2007 Author Posted November 13, 2007 (edited) Simple, the German siege of Russian cities (Stalingrad for instance) but also Petersburg I think resulted in widespread famine. First the inhabitants of the city ate the dogs and cats and then human bodies, just to stay alive. worse, it was seen as normal food later on in the Kessel, and sold and served to prisoners and normal soldiers :-X TT I suggest you watch the series "stalingrad" (I think its from the BBC, with 3 episodes of 50 minutes), wich tells everything about the war in the Kessel... Wout Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 good moc, but what is the Kessel? a region in Russia? Bad that people were forced to eat dead people. I hope I never be forced t do that :-X In the Netherlands people were forced to eat in the winter of 1945 to eat tulipbulbs. I think I would eat that rather. Quote

Kessel is the german word for (in dutch: ketel of kachel) a place where you used to put coals etc in to warm up the house... Because they were trapped, they used that word... My grandmother was forced to eat patatoe skins in the war :-X TT Quote
