Blondie-Wan Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 I know this recent-but-now-defunct line had its detractors, but I don't care. I think it was a nifty way to get certain characters and vehicles in a small, display-friendly form at affordable prices, and though I do like the Microfighters as well, I miss this line and wish it had continued (and really wish the last wave had come out in the U.S.). Am I alone? Quote

Tariq j Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 Your certainly weren't alone. I'm still not too sure why so much criticism stemmed out of all the sets. The Planets line gave us Lobot, who, at the time, was the closest thing we ever got to Cloud City. Quote
bootz Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 Whether it's this or the microfighters, I'm it buying for the figs and rather than the build, but I wouldn't mind if the microfighters came in a planet package again. I've seen them hung from the ceiling paired with those glow in the dark star stick-ons and it looks pretty cool, you certainly can't do that with cardboard boxes. Quote
jamie75 Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 I loved the idea of the MINIs combined with figures. I also liked the planets themselves, just wish they would have released a clear one, UCS RGS!! But, as much as I loved these, the Micro Fighters are, IMO, a better business decision by Lego. You still get a "MINI" and a figure, but, the figure can fit in the craft. Jamie Quote
Sion Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 Never bought a planet set, though they look alright. Quote
Nom Carver Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 You are not alone, I also realized they are pretty good, a good way to get useful figs and I would have also liked a reduced version of my collection, they are way better than the microfighters, with the planet series I was tempted to keep them together, but these new sets are just worth for the parts. strider117 Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 I miss the mini-models but even more than that I miss the spheres they came with- I only had the Kamino/Jedi Starfighter one, but would like them plain in a few different colors for power reactor MOCs and such. You're certainly not alone. Quote
DarthPotato Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 My favorite part of the planet sets was actually the planets themselves. I just thought it was awesome to have a fairly realistic looking globe of a Star Wars planet... and one that was made out of LEGO to make it even better. The builds were okay, and some of the figures like Lobot were definitely great. Quote
Blondie-Wan Posted February 17, 2016 Author Posted February 17, 2016 A Lobot minifigure had of course been released before, but waaaay back in the early days of the theme, before licensed minifigures got "skin" in realistic fleshtones; that one obviously doesn't work too well with most minifigures released anytime in the last decade, and then some. Quote
rollermonkey Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 I can't count how many MOCs on here have had a planet visible out a window somewhere in it. The builds were nice enough, and the figures were usually pretty good, but the planets themselves were surprisingly useful in mood setting. Quote
Artanis I Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 So far I have all of the planet sets & all of the microfighters. The non-square box shape was a pain in the neck. The domes only have so many uses. Most of the planets are unrecognisable. They were running out of movie planets (Utapau, Mustafar & Dagobah are the only ones I can think of). The microfighters are less rigid in what needs to go with the build, take up less shelf/storage/transit space and provide unlimited set options. Who wants 20 planet domes to get 10 minifigs, when with the microfighters you can have 10 of a larger set for far more useful parts? Quote
Kristof Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 I agree on all. These were great sets and I really miss them. Quote
neoconagenda Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 I really enjoy the series. I did not like paying the premium to get the last sets but life goes on. Has anyone posted their unique displays for them? Quote
Richpepperell Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 I loved the planets! The minifigures were fantastic (TIE bomber pilot, At-ST pilot, Lobot, Sebulba), some great printed pieces and the planets themselves can be pretty useful. I had to pick up the final series (Endor, Hoth and Alderaan) from eBay, but it was worth it for the complete set - and the mini Tantive IV is brilliant. As for using the planets, The Death Star makes for a brilliant Ion Cannon (much better than the new brick-built version) and I picked up multiple Bespins to be used as domes on Tatooine buildings. The planets still have pride of place in my dining room too! Quote
BimmerBoy Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 The Death Star makes a fun Christmas Tree ornament. Quote
sparkart Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 I like what Andrew Lee says, "To an AFOL, no LEGO piece is useless." I loved the planet pieces, New Style Astromech in LEGO by SPARKART!, on Flickr. Star Wars R2-D2 Ralph McQuarrie Concept by SPARKART!, on Flickr. One of my back-burner projects is a Marvel Comics Micronauts Homeworld LEGO model. Quote
Junior Shark Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 (edited) Yeah, I miss the Planets sets. But I also love the Microfighters. Planets had some cool minifigures, and like Sparkart said, the planets themselves have their uses when you really put your mind to it. I stocked up on Death Stars after seeing some of what Shannon Sproule has done on Flickr: Enterprise NX-01: To boldly go by Shannon Sproule, on Flickr Boeing C-15 "Strike Eagle" lunar starfighter by Shannon Sproule, on Flickr Edited February 19, 2016 by Junior Shark Quote
Forresto Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 I only ever bought two of them (Death Star and Tatooine) and regret never buying more. They are very useful as planets outside of windows. I wish they had kept making them as they made the micro fighters more interesting but I guess if they took away from the piece count it was for the best. Quote
