Scorn Posted February 14, 2016 Posted February 14, 2016 I am not a sticker fan. Not a violent or vocal campaigner or complainer, it's just my building preference. The Ghostbusters Firehouse Headquarters was a no-brainer. I definitely had to have one. Still want one. But, the fact that the main signage out front is a sticker made me put a pin in the idea. For now. I'm curious...has any one found a way to mod the main sign out front using the printed logo bricks from 21108-1 Ghostbusters Ecto-1? I know they are slightly different elements...but has anyone found a good looking way to do this? I desperately want that Firehouse, but I can't do stickers. Without the sign at all, the set just isn't worth it to me. Any suggestions or a friendly point in the right direction would be very much appreciated. Play well! Quote
Boettner Builds Posted February 14, 2016 Posted February 14, 2016 I did, but it doesn't look super good :( I'll take a pick tomorrow and post it here. Quote
L E G O Posted February 14, 2016 Posted February 14, 2016 There's a guy on eBay advertising printed versions. I don't know how good they are though. Quote

Would love to see whatever it is you've come up with! There's a guy on eBay advertising printed versions. I don't know how good they are though. L E G O...here's my hang-up with that, and it's another one of my personal building preferences, I don't like to use pieces that aren't official LEGO. Some of those third-party elements are stunning, no doubt, but I like to stick with genuine elements. Quote
Cmay91472 Posted February 14, 2016 Posted February 14, 2016 (edited) When you said not your building preference, Is it because you do not like using stickers in general because of the way they look or because of the act of having to apply them? The stickers for the Firehouse are fairly simple ones to apply, nothing tricky like UCS display plate stickers or the clear decals for trans pieces such as cockpits or the Avengers Tower logos. Scorn Posted February 15, 2016 Author Posted February 15, 2016 Cmay...there's a whole list of reasons I don't like stickers. Again, I'm not vocally militant against them - I don't get up-in-arms about it, I just don't dig 'em. I get frustrated that they'll print a 2 x 4 Lemonade Stand tile for $15 Friends set, but for the $350 HQ you've got one shot to put them buggers on straight, or else the whole thing goes to pot. And that's on me. I just know that if I did anything less than a perfect job with the sticker application, than that'd always be the only thing I'd ever see whenever I looked over at the finished model. I also just absolutely love decorated tiles. I think they're neat and love finding new and unorthodox uses for them. Again, I wouldn't mind it on smaller, less expensive sets...but for things like this or the Death Star...I don't know. I just feel like at that price, we should get printed stuff especially when we did on similar tiles for the much less expensive Ecto-1. Not looking to argue/debate stickers VS printed, it's just a part of my personal preference, hence why I'm looking for a cool solution to the signage issue so I can still enjoy the other wonderful 99% of this gorgeous set! Boettner Builds Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 It doesn't look too bad from the side but from straight on its a little chubby. im sure there is a way to make it less wide, but the way I first tried didn't work, so I kinda gave up and this is it, for now. Quote
Scorn Posted February 15, 2016 Author Posted February 15, 2016 Love it, Red! Inspiring...anything beats a sticker in my book! Thanks a lot for sharing! Quote
Boettner Builds Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 Scorn, I haven't messed with it to figure out how to make it thinner yet, but I did something! It's not movie correct, but I do believe it looks MUCH better! Quote
Cmay91472 Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 In place of the blank tiled piece in the lower right hand corner, you could try replacing the two 1x1 bricks the 1x2 finishing tile is attached to with a 1x2 dark grey grooved/ridged brick. Quote
