Perhaps you are tired already with all the X wings (official and MOCs) out there, however I am sharing this creation with you anyway  , its an update over my "old school X wing" (http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=120596&hl=wing), it has been sleekened and moded to fit with more recent designs while still being within the common scale of my colection (they are actualy not in scale), it combines the best of both designs, the latest X wing nose and the sturdiness and size of the oldest one, regarding to my "old school X wing", dont worry, its still arround and it has also been improved.

The improvements are:

  • wings have been widened
  • sleeker nose with a similar structure to the new ones
  • improved cannon design
  • improved thrusters
  • improved retractable landing gear

And it still has the features of the old one:

  • functioning s-foils
  • two spring loaded missiles concealed in the fuselage
  • remobvable r2 unit

I know its not too much for the average awesomeness we see around here, but I am still quite pleased with the result.

I quite like your idea to create these small scale ships based on the very first LEGO Star Wars series. I think you did a good job at recreating the feel of those old models while using modern parts like those shooters.

I only have three small things that I don't like but that you can easily fix if you agree with me. ;)

First, I would change the white plates on top of the nose for some tiles. Second, those wedge parts on the sides of the cockpit somehow don't feel right to me. Maybe you could go with the set design a bit further and use the same parts you used for the nose there?

My final complaint are the engines. I think they just look a bit off being so high over the wings. I know this is the simple style of the original sets but maybe you could try and embed them a bit deeper into the wings and make those slopes beside them a bit more prominent.. I know this is not an easy task if you want to stay true to the 1999 X-Wing but I think you can do it and improve your model even further.

Don't get me wrong though, I still really like these and you can be proud of them! :)

I love this. The simplicity is beautiful. I love how small the model is. My favorite part has to be the engines love the use of the 2x2 rounded piece!

Thanks, regarding to the tiles, that long plate has a structural purpose, unless lego develops a 6 x 2 smooth plate this will do the job.

Second, those wedge parts on the sides of the cockpit somehow don't feel right to me. Maybe you could go with the set design a bit further and use the same parts you used for the nose there?

I know what you mean, I tried that and it looks weird, like cheeks.

Yes, but the problem lies on the fact that those plates (the wings) work as the surface that keeps together the wing, I like my sets to be as sturdy as possible.

Thanks again, no doubt you have an idea of how to build X wing eh  .

Thank you too, as someone around here said: "sometimes less is more".
