Lord Of Pies Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 (edited) Hello again Pirate fans! *sweet* It is time for another Minifigure Review! :-) Review: Captain Ironhook This Pirate was only ever featured in two sets, 6261 Raft Raiders and 6268 Renegade runner which were released in 1992 and 1993. I tend to view him as a bit of a wannabe captain, for he has no peg leg, much of a crew and generally is less known than the mighty (and rather stereotypical captain) Redbeard! He has a pirate hat, a torn shirt, complete with knife, and plain black trousers. Only himself, Redbeard and his identical twins ( :-D ) have Pirate Bicorne with skull pattern on, which again makes him more unique than other pirates. Overall, I think he is a good minifigure for parts, but he is still no Redbeard! X-D A peg leg version is found in three sets: 6278 Enchanted Island, 6292 Enchanted Island and 6264 Forbidden Cove. So what are your views of this figure, what do you like or dislike about the appearence, the colour, the parts, and the sets he appears in? Edit: Thank you Mister Phes for correcting me. SirNadroj Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 Another great review! *y* My opinon of this figure is that the torso is great but the captain bicorne looks horrible with it ~ the ragged red shirt with the belt and cross strap doesn't look captain-ish. ;-) Quote
ExoBuilder Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 I agree with Sirnadroj, The captain is great but the torso is disgusting with that face. Good review, you made it very clear. Quote
Lord Of Pies Posted October 30, 2007 Author Posted October 30, 2007 Thank you. I do kinda agree that he does not look all that much like a captain, however on the raft, I feel it suits him well as a kind of "castaway" pirate captain. Quote
SlyOwl Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 I think that the TRUE Ironhook (With the pegleg) is superior, but then again, he needs to sit down sometimes and it gives scope (if you have 2, 1 of each) to have it bitten off again and again and again... :-P My one came with a slightly different, "smoother" face, less clashing with the torso... Slazza *wub* Quote
Asuka Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 Thanks for a very nice MF review, Lord Of Something I Like Too Much! *sweet* A neat MF with a really cool torso decal. *y* Quote
Lt. Col. Thok Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 I have a feeling we're going to be seeing a lot of these reviews from you. ;-) Very nice! this is one of my favourite figs. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted October 31, 2007 Governor Posted October 31, 2007 Excellent! Another review! But you missed out some very vital information: This mini-figure is known as Captain "Ironhook" not "Raft Raider Captain". Quote
Dreamweb Posted October 31, 2007 Posted October 31, 2007 My one came with a slightly different, "smoother" face, less clashing with the torso... Actually I think this picture is wrong. Ironhook's beard was brown, not red like Redbeard's. :-D That was one more unique feature of his. At least that's what Peeron says and that's what I remember from purchasing my 2 Renegade Runners. So the correct head should be: Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted October 31, 2007 Governor Posted October 31, 2007 I think you're right Mr Dreamweb. I just went and checked my Renegade Runners and Raft Raiders and Captain Ironhook's hair is brown! Perhaps Peeron's accidentially used a Captain Roger/Redbeard head. Quote
Dreamweb Posted October 31, 2007 Posted October 31, 2007 Peeron uses the right head, the second picture I posted IS from Peeron. It's Bricklink that shows the wrong face (the picture Lord Of Pies posted is from Bricklink). Quote
Lord Of Pies Posted October 31, 2007 Author Posted October 31, 2007 Ahh, when I was writing the review, I noticed multiple versions of the minifig, but I just chose one. I might edi it my review pointing out the mistake. Also I did not know he was Captain Ironhook! I jsut made up a name! Sorry. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted October 31, 2007 Governor Posted October 31, 2007 I have corrected the name so everything is factual now. Quote
Dreamweb Posted October 31, 2007 Posted October 31, 2007 Ahh, when I was writing the review, I noticed multiple versions of the minifig, but I just chose one. I'm not sure about the peg-legged versions from Islander sets as I don't have any of them, but I'm pretty sure that all the normal-legged versions had brown beards. I think the guys at Bricklink made a mistake. Quote
Col. Whipstick Posted October 31, 2007 Posted October 31, 2007 Captain Ironhook needs a shower! :-P Quote
Opproperaar Posted October 31, 2007 Posted October 31, 2007 I love the idea of reviewing a minifig, as for the captain I join in on the popular notion that the head/torso combination used is quite ... wrong :-P The head is more reserved for experienced officers while the toorso would go for a manly, sturdy, smelly, disgusting, illiterate pirate. Especially with the knife placed right there. Personally, I have the way better one, the one with wooden peg, forgot his name, but he's my most precious minifig, I think 8-| Quote
Lord Of Pies Posted October 31, 2007 Author Posted October 31, 2007 Captain Redbeard is the pirate you mean? Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted November 1, 2007 Governor Posted November 1, 2007 I'm not sure about the peg-legged versions from Islander sets as I don't have any of them, but I'm pretty sure that all the normal-legged versions had brown beards. I think the guys at Bricklink made a mistake. You better tell them at once! X-D Quote
Shadows Posted November 1, 2007 Posted November 1, 2007 Another interesting pirate minifig review, thanks Lord of Pies *y* As for the figure ... Clearly a refugee from a shipwreck in this format, and with the peg leg he would be just an even more pathetic excuse for a miserable captain (though he looks the part better that way). Overall, a washout as a captain, but a fine enough low level pirate, serving under a quality captain in a reasonably well kept shirt, or better still, some kind of port inhabitant who loads and unloads barrels by day and gets in fights in dark alleys by night. Just in a different hat. Pirate Minifig Reviews On! *y* Quote
Dreamweb Posted November 1, 2007 Posted November 1, 2007 (edited) I agree he looks much better if you change his hat to normal pirate bandana (making him a normal pirate/sailor, not a captain). I'd also change the hook for normal hand as it doesn't fit here very well IMO. This torso also looks good with a female head! Edited November 1, 2007 by Dreamweb Quote
SlyOwl Posted November 3, 2007 Posted November 3, 2007 Actually I think this picture is wrong. Ironhook's beard was brown, not red like Redbeard's. :-D That was one more unique feature of his. Thanks for that - it really doesn't help my Lego that I'm colour-blind!!! :'-) I now use him as the REAL Ironhook's evil twin! Great fun! Quote
Brickulator Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 I have the pegged-legged version of this guy. And his beard is red. Quote
swan45 Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 This minifigure has an a apearence in lego chess and he is with a crocodile Quote
