Monorail ideas?

Much mike the boiler idea post lets discuss monorails and gondolas.

here is the type of alternative monorails that I know of.

A monorail on training wheels

And an old blue era monorail idea.

You folks have any other idea's for monorails?

Neat. The flat track and center rail remind me of some of the steer it yourself amusement park car rides. Are you going to power the center wheel? This could also be a good idea for a cog railway.

Oh that train was from a couple years ago. I have the train dismantled but not the wheel base. Locomotive Annie made one as well it was larger and was battery powered I believe .

Edit. Looking back now I really wish I kept this thing together. I really like the unusual lines of the train and many of the angles. If I did it right and maybe had more resources at the time I could have had a really sweet monorail.

I know there is the brick rail system but I do not have an example of it. switches inclines everything....... We had that gondla recently posted here.... And there was maglev floating around on youtube

I think Steve Barile may have done a brick build monorail track and monorail train before. I recall lots and lots of dark bley tiles.

I think the best monorail is the flatnose'd one on the back/flip of the 6399's box

I prefer that one to the actual 6399 (mine is yellow, though)

Looks much better in real life (top left corner)

There's another review here that displays it much better .. actually, all the alts are better than the main shuttle. It's a very overrated set imho ;)

(I own many monorail sets and I LOVE the system, but the sets pretty much suck. Just buy the motor, rails (switches ftw!), stanchions and MOC from there ...)

Arent they pretty costly? I was hoping we could compile some alternatives :p I really like using the bluerail as the monorail because of the different sizes

The Stadler GTW 2/6 looks much like airport monorail. Makes you wonder if the Stadler designers had that LEGO set in their youth. I suppose it could be modified to run on monorail tracks too.

Issue #24 of Brick Journal had an article on brick-built monorails. One of the featured builders, Masao Hidaka, is in one photo in the latest issue #38 on page 69.
